from MRL-0004: By re-sending transactions to oneself iteratively over intervals of time with random length, and by breaking all transactions (including a resend transaction) into multiple smaller transactions, also sent over an interval of time, we dramatically weaken the ability for an eavesdropper to glean information from the blockchain based solely on block height simple question: can i send it to the same address i am sending from or do i need to send it to a different account under my control? thank you

To answer those who say "Someone made a GUI for CryptoNote coins, GUI problem solved?" i personally don't see a problem. today we have at least: - bitmonerod : official client in command line - mymonero : unofficial lightweight web client, easy and compatible with official bitmonerod if you need - MoneroX : unofficial GUI, opensource, working good for several months - LightWallet : unofficial GUI, opensource, does not require running the bitmonerod local node usually here come the FUDers/trolls/etc... to say: "oh there isn't an official GUI !" and yes there isn't an official GUI for now because we don't need it quickly. the monero core gui will be done according to the roadmap : https://getmonero.org/design-goals/an overview is available, it's not a bitcoin-qt clone.
let the world say what it will! Check this also: https://forum.cryptonote.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=609

PS, why I hide the balance, that is of course the million dollar question I'd like to know why the screenshots always show BTC balances of exactly zero. Call it the one Satoshi question if you will.

I think the GUI argument is pretty weak, especially if you need one, there are a few out there (albeit, not official). It's not hard to type:
transfer mixin address amount paymentid
Anyone coming from running a Dash masternode (or basic command line experience) would be comfortable doing it via CLI. Having said that, a GUI is crucial for your average joe as getting into crypto should be as seamless as possible without much difficulty. I'm not convinced rushing an official GUI will be all that useful if there are other core features that should be explored and implemented firsthand. Now, on the flip side--with the reference CN code now having an "official" reference QT client, I'm not sure where that puts XMR from a positioning standpoint as some may come to expect it when options are already there if you're handicapped.

Hey, we've been at Geneva's Bitcoin Meetup yesterday and gave the following presentation on Monero, privacy and fungibility: http://www.slideshare.net/arnuschky/monero-geneva We got quite positive feedback on it, and might team up with some guys here to build the first Monero ATM

Most people using Bitcoin do not use the official GUI. They use Electrum, Multibit, Mycelium, Breadwallet, Blockchain.info, Coinbase, Circle, and I'm probably forgetting some. These are all third party product which demonstrate the strength of the Bitcoin ecosystem. We have a bit of an ecosystem of our own here. We have MoneroX, LightWallet, MyMonero and a bunch of others. These (other than MyMonero of course) been somewhat hobbled by version-skew and packaging issues that made them hard to install, but that will be worked out once the next release is tagged, and the situation will be much better. You will be able to download one of these packages and have the node already packaged with it, and have it not require a huge amount of RAM.

In that light, I favor the idea that one Monero page mimics bitcoin.org such that interested people (knowing Bitcoin) feel cozy when looking into Monero. I would do it myself but facing strong time limits (day job).

Thanks. On your last sentence, I'm not sure if I was clear: the base58 version is above in the code section "Integrated Address". That would be the version you'd actually use. The hex version at the bottom was for explanation only.
Thanks for the clarification, I didn't notice the distinction. That is great work. I nominate luigi1111 to get part of the bounties for designing this, the rest to go to whoever implements it (could be him of course). I agree. luigi1111 will definitely receive some XMR from me when this is implemented. However, I still pledge 100 XMR to whoever makes it happen. agree I'll send half of my bounty to luigi, if he provides me with an adress. Thanks. I've been thinking about this a bit more regarding solving edge cases, etc. I may have more ideas/details later.

no one living in some vanilla jurisdiction and wants to start a xmr dice/casino service? btw xmr and me are celebrating first wedding day today - not the easiest marriage but you know what people tell about feisty marriages safedice will be offering the possibility to play/invest xmr "soon". can't give you any eta, since I'm not the one coding. additionally there is still the question how the cold wallet will be handled or better how to proof the reserves claimed (since there is no viewkey implementation yet). I didnt really like the workaround ccd used, so happy to hear any better ideas. I already have an idea, but it is not perfect given the jurisdiction I'm located at. Please note: I'm neither running nor owning the site. I was/am just an early investor who convinced the admin to go down the xmr route. I have a rough version of viewkey working (by individual output only at the moment). I'm still working out some (a lot) of the finer details.

It was incredibly slow - he forked it from someone else in #monero-dev.

I'm not trying to create something that scans the entire blockchain for outputs (that's a job for Simplewallet), rather selectively decodes by output (and soon by TX) on an offline basis, using information from the block explorers for example.

We . . . might team up with some guys here to build the first Monero ATM Have you seen http://planet-capital.com/ ? Looks like they are planning to support trading multiple crypto-currencies. Perhaps you could collaborate and add XMR support to their platform.

Release a GUI, and there is a GUI. Not simple enough? For today I can confirm there is a working DB implementation. It just does not exist. Officially. Which is pretty weak advertising to be honest. Your product has favors above competition. Crippling on purpose?

Hell, I just set up my windows 64 MoneroX GUI with the LMDB DB implementation last night.
