To answer those who say "Someone made a GUI for CryptoNote coins, GUI problem solved?"
i personally don't see a problem.

today we have at least:
- bitmonerod : official client in command line
- mymonero : unofficial lightweight web client, easy and compatible with official bitmonerod if you need
- MoneroX : unofficial GUI, opensource, working good for several months
- LightWallet : unofficial GUI, opensource, does not require running the bitmonerod local node

usually here come the FUDers/trolls/etc... to say: "oh there isn't an official GUI !"

and yes there isn't an official GUI for now because we don't need it quickly.

an overview is available, it's not a bitcoin-qt clone.

I think the GUI argument is pretty weak, especially if you need one, there are a few out there (albeit, not official). It's not hard to type:

transfer mixin address amount paymentid

Anyone coming from running a Dash masternode (or basic command line experience) would be comfortable doing it via CLI. Having said that, a GUI is crucial for your average joe as getting into crypto should be as seamless as possible without much difficulty. I'm not convinced rushing an official GUI will be all that useful if there are other core features that should be explored and implemented firsthand. Now, on the flip side--with the reference CN code now having an "official" reference QT client, I'm not sure where that puts XMR from a positioning standpoint as some may come to expect it when options are already there if you're handicapped.

We have a bit of an ecosystem of our own here. We have MoneroX, LightWallet, MyMonero and a bunch of others.

These (other than MyMonero of course) been somewhat hobbled by version-skew and packaging issues that made them hard to install, but that will be worked out once the next release is tagged, and the situation will be much better. You will be able to download one of these packages and have the node already packaged with it, and have it not require a huge amount of RAM.

In that light, I favor the idea that one Monero page mimics bitcoin.org such that interested people (knowing Bitcoin) feel cozy when looking into Monero. I would do it myself but facing strong time limits (day job).

additionally there is still the question how the cold wallet will be handled or better how to proof the reserves claimed (since there is no viewkey implementation yet). I didnt really like the workaround ccd used, so happy to hear any better ideas.

No idea. I'm not trying to create something that scans the entire blockchain for outputs (that's a job for Simplewallet), rather selectively decodes by output (and soon by TX) on an offline basis, using information from the block explorers for example.
