Go to the first post on this thread, and find the list of pools. Pick one or two pools, visit their web sites, and follow their directions for setting up a miner.

Why do some cryptocurrencies need a conf file and monero does not.
If ducknote is a cryptonote coin why does it need a conf file while monero does not
Monero supports conf files...but its not needed.

What conf file? I have ducknote installed and I don't see any conf file.

I'm still on the lookout for anything else to add to this list.
agree - you can also add the counterparty protcol/xcp but when you follow the discussion of the bitcoin veterans, monero or cryptonotes in general are the only coins which have a future Any Crypto Asset protocol free-riding on the BTC blockchain will ultimately fail... And though XCP is well-designed and looks great... IT'S A FREAKING GHOSTTOWN... The devs made a BIG strategic mistake = no strategy to attain a critical mass in tx volume... Ripple made the same mistake, but at least they had decent XRP volume from Day One. "If we build it they will come"... is not a strategy. gmaxwell thinks Monero is a shady, sleazy rippoff of the brilliant work by BCN Devs (RIP)... So opinions are a dime a dozen in this place... everybody is a Bagholder And let's not forget PeerCoin + PeerShares (with a testnet wallet working)... This is the darkhorse because geniuses simplify, simplify, simplify = that's what Sunny does... Designing vertically integrated PeerCoin/Wallet/Shares could hit that simplicity Sweet Spot... And be another home run for Mr. King.

Start supporting decentralization! www.Extremehash.com is giving away another round of 10% mining bonus to support this cause and build more confidence in Monero. Keep the hashes coming this way! minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://mro.extremehash.com:9999 -u address -p x

Keep the hashes coming this way! minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://mro.extremehash.com:9999 -u address -p x Tried it. Hash rate was decent for the pool while I was testing it (roughly 2% of the entire network, i.e. >1 block per hour expected) and got no blocks for many hours. 10% of nothing is nothing. You need to do better to jumpstart it somehow, or fix whatever is wrong with it. For now can't recommend.

Well if decentralization is the thing you guys are after, you should most definitely point your miners to http://kippo.eu, as the hashrate is currently very decentralization-friendly. Can't afford any bonuses either.

Oh, I forgot that the internet only has 4 players. It must be the "network effect". This is no longer a serious discussion... When Google, Amazon, Apple, the banks start to play Crypto Currency for real... Nothing coming out of BitcoinTalk will matter. strong statement. for comparison i think chinese communism started in a shed. apple started in a garage and dell started in a dorm room. I think there's something to be said for this technology being developed "in a garage", so to speak. It takes the profit motive out of it. If Google created a coin it would surely have an angle that benefited them, removing the altruism and fairness that can be achieved by a healthy community.

I agree with you. No one is in a privileged position here. Yes there are developers but we are all community members who are working on it because we see the potential for the technology and find it personally interesting. It is certainly not a path to riches. So far the people who have made the most money on this coin are most certainly not the developers, but other ambitious community members who have done things like start successful pools, large scale mining, etc.

I don't see the 2.0 crypto as competing in the same class. Ethereum and nxt may compete in some applications, and mro has to displace btc from some of its less appropriate current uses, but really all four of them can work synergistically, each providing its own distinctive functions, to the benefit of all participants in the crypto economy - including each other. Monero's major competition may be zerocash. Personally I will not be entrusting my life and wealth to anyone saying " trust me", but others may not be so discriminating.
