I've installed the VM that was provided by the dev and appear to be successfully running my own private merge mining node (followed BorisTheSpider's instructions on Github) My question: Most of the output I see in vertminer says "Accepted untracked stratum share from pool 0." Is this normal? Are my shares being counted as normal? Every now and then I see a typical "Accepted 3jdwod34 Diff 17/9 GPU 1,' but 99% of the time it says, "Accepted untracked stratum share from pool 0." Any pointers/help would be awesome! You can read about what that message means here: http://mining-tips.weebly.com/1/post/2014/01/-accepted-untracked-stratum-share-from-pool-0.htmlBasically, when your miner gets a message saying a share was accepted, but it doesn't know you sent it in the first place, it calls it "untracked". I doubt your network is to blame since you so reliably receive these responses and you should have noticed such a dodgy internet connection by now. It could be that your vertminer is somehow having difficulty storing the shares locally, with a permissions conflict or memory limitation. Sadly I've got nothing better than that.

I should have mentioned that I had read that article. I get what the article is saying, but was just looking for some confirmation. From what I understand this may likely be a result of mining on my own node from the same machine. The latency is nil, therefore the shares are being submitted and accepted so fast that vertminer doesn't have time (for peak efficiency reasons) to connect the share that was sent with the acceptance it receives back from the pool, therefore it just calls it accepted, but untracked. I believe the shares are still good and counting toward eventual payout when a block is found. Can anyone running their own node confirm this, or am I way off?

Yeah I get what you're saying and it makes a kind of sense. If you don't hear back from anybody by the time I get home from work, I'll install the VB on my own PC and see what it does.

how to merge mining
Simple way is to mine Vertcoin on the simplevert.com pool and follow their instructions to add a MON and PLX address. At higher hashrates you will want to give P2P mining a try, just read the thread for setting that up.

TO THA MOON!
After VTC is growing over the last days i like more to buy some MON than VTC momentary. For me it would take weeks to get 500 MON, on that price people given them away for nothing it´s a bargain. It´s time to switch to longer term thinking than only from day to day to get some more shit BTC. DRK and VTC short term to overload -> buying MON instead

if I calculated possible price for MON ... then heh yeah current price is silly and yes still its best time to buy buy When most vertcoiners will mine vtc with MON (still many dont yet...) and then other n coins connect MON together... then when VTC hashrate grow up (its matter of days/weeks MAX only) then hashrate of MON will be so high that getting few coins from mining will be like challenge THEN I wonder how much will be worth this rare coin that will be naturally mined along with other n-scrypt coins So ... backup now... as its just beginning of fun

High rejection rate isn't unusual. What is your hash rate, and how many VTC per day are you getting? You should be getting around 4 VTC/Mh/day.

High rejection rate isn't unusual. What is your hash rate, and how many VTC per day are you getting? You should be getting around 4 VTC/Mh/day. My hash rate is roughly 8.5 MH/s as indicated on my local stats page with around 17-22% DOA. I've been getting around 30 vtc per day so that seems more or less in line taking into account my rejection rate. I was mining with vtcpool.co.uk and my rejection rate there was around the pool rejection rate, which was around 10-11% (though the pool rate seems to be running high around 15% currently) I was under the impression that using my own node I would see a lower rejection rate. I'd like to get down to the pool rate. From this page http://everythingdoge.com/2014/02/complete-guide-dogecoin-p2pool-mining-part-2-p2pool-performance-tuning/I changed expiry to 1, queue to 0, scantime to 1. Have you made any changes like those? Thanks for helping.

Like the op states, there are no free transactions, and the minimum fee is 0.01 mon (can be more depending on transaction size, inputs etc). This is so that users will get used to the higher fees that will be needed later to offer incentive for people to mine the coin, once the block reward goes to zero. All fees are paid directly to whoever mines the block including your transaction.
