Anyone else having problems with staking lately? I have not earned any stake in 3 days. The little green icon in the corner of the wallet says "Estimated time to earn reward: 21 seconds" but I haven't received any. Stake balance is zero (both in the GUI and getinfo). Restarting the wallet doesn't seem to help.
Mine doesn't look like it's working that well either. All day yesterday mine said I'd be getting a stake in 40 minutes or something but never got anything. It currently says I'll get one in 3 minutes but that was 5 minutes ago. I got 7 stakes (all the same amount) on 8-15, then nothing until 8-18 when I got a stake 20% of the size of the previous 7 stakes, and then today I have received 2 more of the smaller stakes, identical in size to the 8-18 stake.

PoS is a really hard to predict system. Stake amount will often change based on coinage. It's a really tough system to try and guess what it should be. We've reviewed all the code and checked some blocks. Everything seems to be working correctly. It may be acting a little funny due to the low coin supply we are working with, but I can assure you that everything is solid on the backend. Even if the results are inconsistent day to day, it will average out over time

Is it odd to get 7 stakes of identical size in one day, followed by 3 (so far) identical stakes (although 20% the size of the previous stakes) in less than 24 hours a couple days later or is that considered normal also?

Yes. I believe it is the "hidden" math that calculates coinage and its relation to amount. Remember, the coin is designed to average out over the span of a year (btw, max age is 30 days), so if you staked a lot at first, chances are it's just trying to even you back out to get to your anticipated 50% yearly yield Sorry if that doesn't make sense...I know what I'm trying to say, but it's kinda hard to explain

Not minting is not a GUI problem, it is a wallet problem. It will not correctly count down time to stake counter (at least not in the GUI). Despite having it open for most of the time, I only had 3 successful stakes and 1 unsuccessful - last one dated August 16. This does not computer nor does it make sense. This wallet is just a bad bad job. Developer: please contact me so I can set you up with a high-quality coder with proven track record... He's used to clean up messy code Again: for now, this new wallet is a total bust and I am not staking despite my 1.8 MMXIV! twitter.com/devnullius So I'm seeing something I am curious about. Say I started with 10 coins. I then earn a stake of 0.2 coins. And perhaps I receive a pool payout of 0.3 coins later that day. But now the age of the 10 coins is different than the 0.2 coins and the 0.3 coins.
So at some point, the 10 coins go to stake again but the 0.2 and 0.3 remain in my balance.
But then I think the 10 coins will generate another stake, let's say 0.2 again, and then the initial 0.2 and 0.3 will mature and I'll have 0.5 coins staking (perhaps at different times) and a lot of 10 and 0.2 coins in the balance. So I think you see where I'm going, is that there will be an increasing amount of "odd small lots" of coins staking and rotating through the process.
Is there any process by which the coins can all consolidate for the purpose of staking? Or will there be an increasing number of subsequently smaller lots of coins moving through the staking process and earning ever proportionately smaller stakes?
Unfortunately that is pretty much how staking works. You can, periodically, transfer your entire balance to another wallet, or to Bittrex and back, to "re-consolidate" your coins. Thanks for the explanation. Is there any reason to? Yesterday I got 7 stakes, all of the same size. Would I have received fewer stakes of a larger size if the balance was "consolidated" or is there any advantage to one approach vs another? When you move your coins, you are resetting your timers, so I would do it as seldom as possible OK, but it was also explained that you had to keep the qt client open to stake. So what is the real effect of closing and re-opening the qt client? the common way to function is(@MMXIV correct me if i am wrong) is that you don't loose coinage but staking time, so when you oben it up again you beginn where you stopped staking, but you did not make any progress in between. For oler Iplementations, there hasn't been any "staking-time", what turned out badly, because people just had to open their wallet once a month and harnest their stakes. Newer implementations require you to "stake" and contribute a certain amound of time to securing the network Added this info my PoS-how-does-it-work article (from Redditcoin)... http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,9289.msg25902.html#msg25902

It's inconsistent due to the percentage of coins held on exchanges or not staking. We have only 2000ish coins, so 500 being on exchange is quite a large percentage I would appreciate if you stop blaming personal errors on the coin, like when you didn't know how to install it. If you aren't staking at all, you're doing something wrong

IF the person holding 50 MMXIV would like to contact me for other promotional work on MMXIV - do contact me...? I'd love to promote, despite the horrible wallet we have now :s Thank you! Devvie My week on Twitter: https://twitter.com/devnullius/status/473478554580443137This week I'll be giving away 50 MMXIV to miners on the multipool. Sometimes I'll send 1, sometimes I'll send 10 A random address will be picked at a random time on a random day...aka, whenever I check pool stats, I'll pick an address and send them some to say thanks for mining on pool.mmxivcoin.comThis is over .6 BTC worth of MMXIV being given away this week Please Retweet: https://twitter.com/szenekonzept/status/501457096962220032The more you spread it, the worse your chances. I agree with Devvie that something is wrong.
Look at the block explorer. I thought POW was no longer accepted after block 10,000 but it appears that is not the case. The past 2000 blocks were nearly all POW and zero value. The total coin count is going down due to transaction fees, not going up from POS minting like it should be.
Total coins:
2036.261387 at block 11556 (2 days ago) 2035.911387 at block 13571 (now)
WTF?

We switched it to block 25k at the last second. That is my fault for not communicating it, I was still quoting block 10k we used for testing. We may fork it again to keep PoW active forever to keep the network moving The supply will go down sometimes because fees are destroyed, not paid to miners. This is to offset the inflation caused by PoS, trying to keep us as close to 2014 coins as possible

If a couple other big holders move, the network will look like it's having shitty luck PoS is a lottery. Sometimes it will stake a lot, sometimes it won't. All depends where the coins are and for how long. Have any of you done the math to see if you are ahead of your schedule for 50% yearly? I'm asking that as a serious question, not to be a dick. I'll do the calculations but I never understood that was what was meant by the phrase "50% yearly." To make sure I understand correct, if I had 100 MMXIV, if I staked continuously for 1 year I should have 150 MMXIV 1 year from now? My calculations will be somewhat difficult due to earnings from the pool adding to my balance.

It's hard to keep correct records if you mine or buy and move coins to stake. PoS is a really tough system to estimate. There is a lot more randomness than in just PoW Keep in mind, it's human nature to forget the good times and remember the bad. You said you staked 7 times, then 3, by day, so maybe the average is 2 and you are way ahead. This is a total guess, I don't know your balance, coinage, etc., I'm just using those numbers as an example
