Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's
computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be
reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

With regards to the problem that the popup in the gui which displays the real account data cannot be selected for copy & paste (which some users reported):
This is only an issue when using Firefox. We are aware of it and will fix it in the next release. You can use Chrome to have the ability to copy & paste the data.

I think tcp is used but I'm not sure as udp would also make sense. Have you tried also specifically allowing that port for incoming in the windows firewall ?

So are the accounts made on this beta software the accounts we can use to receive real NEM?

This is the first time I really got the chance to test NEM. All I can say is that I'm amazed. The developers have done absolutely stunning job, and I'm sure NEM will be a very viable competitor for BitCoin. We are going to the moon with fair distribution and big development fund. P.S. Also, what does it mean that my node is misconfigured? I can see my transactions went through, so how does it affect me? Can't harvest?

Also, what does it mean that my node is misconfigured? I can see my transactions went through, so how does it affect me? Can't harvest? You can send and you can harvest, no problem. It means your computer does not actively help distributing transactions and blocks in the network. To do that your router needs to forward port 7890 to the computer that is running the node. Also the firewall should let incoming and outgoing request on port 7890 pass.

ok no luck.. i dont know what the hell is wrong that it wont work.. :/ allowed the port in the firewall settings, didnt work, turned off the firewall - didnt work, router settings didnt work.. :/
edit:
martismartis, netgear (ssid)AirCard-4210
just had a look online and one site, in relation to white listing, is showing ports like "http=port80". is that the way it is supposed to be entered or just as "7890" with out the http=?
no worries if i cant get it working, il just bring it into college and someone will know how to fix it..
i will take a look at the netgear (ssid)AirCard-4210 docs a little later and then tell you what to do (you are running windows?).

So are the accounts made on this beta software the accounts we can use to receive real NEM? yes but you HAVE to use the "create real account" thing in settings menu. dont use the address that you create when setting up the client. you should get a message box that contains private key, address and i think public key? not sure.. but you will know what im on about when you see it. Great, cheers Kod.
