I was not scammed but: I would like to point out, and thank, all the development team working on NEM as they are going out of their way to stop this scam and save peoples money when technically it is not their responsibility. Thank you. I am falling n love with this community more and more. I wish there was something we could do in return of your thoughtfulness.

Hey everyone. I was working on an infographic for NEM this morning and thought I'd post it here for everyone to scrutinize. (Already posted on the NEM forums but possibly a different group of readers here who might want to see as well.)

Let me know what you all think. Still definitely a work in progress, just spent a few minutes on it this morning so feel free to suggest any changes or additions (or things to remove).

I'll just leave it as a link because it's quite large and I don't want to clutter up the forum with a giant image.

I loved your work. Very simple and very "understandable".

Maybe on Nem website (http://www.ournem.com/), we should have some works like this, showing some: Newbie, normal and very technical details of the coin.

Maybe we could have a serie of posts like this.

Gr8 work!
That's really appealing. Wonderful work Amy.

Nice work...

Changing your BTT account password is not enough. You have to consider changing the password of any other account were you used the same hijacked password. Including emails,Skype,....

It was a unique password, as in I only used it for BTT. The new password is also unique to BTT.

Is there anything else I should do?

One last thing you should do is to scan your computer multiple of times using different antivirus software. Cause there is a possibility that the hacker tried to exploit your browser when you visited his website. The possibility that this has happened is low, probably 5% to 15%. But it is still something to consider.

People, switch to linux and stop using windows.
You will get rid of the majority of this security issues.

I use Windows and have never been hacked. Using Linux doesn't mean you can't be hacked. A malicious browser plugin will work in Firefox, Chrome, regardless of operating system, for example. How many servers we see get hacked everyday? Tons. They are all running Linux.

Don't use Windows as an admin. Create a separate user account with standard privileges <-- this greatly increases security since if a malicious code is executed without your permission, it will only have privileges of logged in user. This trick alone will cut down majority of zero day exploits/trojans/viruses.

I think what you are doing is not safe enough. The reason you have never been hacked may be not that you use your win safely, but that you are not attractive enough to the hackers.

Any how would Linux have prevented people from providing login credentials to a mocked-up version of BTT?

It would not! Wink
It can't if you can't be 100% awake all the time nothing can save you!
I was replying to post above where spyware (window OS) malware antivirus has been mentioned.

SO people use linux but be awake all the time Wink

Cheers.

There are linux malware too.

10,000 Linux servers hit by malware serving tsunami of spam and exploits

http://arstechnica.com/security/2014/03/10000-linux-servers-hit-by-malware-serving-tsunami-of-spam-and-exploits/

It's not as wide spread for two reasons (1) Smaller user base (2)  No root access by default.  You can do #2 with Windows by creating and using Windows as standard user, instead of always logged in as admin.

There is this golden rule: processes should run with the fewest privileges necessary.

That's why you shouldn't root your android phones either.

Not yet, but (most likely) soon! The devs seem to currently be aiming for distribution of stakeholder coins sometime next month (likely towards the end of the month). Just keep checking back here and you will be contacted by a member of the team with instructions on how to claim your stake. You are also welcome to join us at the official NEM forums (https://forum.nemcoin.com/) which will also be updated with all the latest news as it happens, plus we'd love to have more NEMsters there participating in the discussions. yay gonna test that new alpha sweetie

There's a little improvement (scrolling !) but you need to stop with this NIS/NCC acronyms. It means nothing for most people. NIS should not even be mentionned in monitor and be transparent. It's like asking to launch Frosbite 3D engine before playing Battlefield Smiley. As for NCC at least write the whole words, like open "NEM community client".

Joe does not know what NCC is and doesn't want to google it  Smiley

For beta release, I think it's okay if this sort of thing is still a bit rough around the edges. After beta launches I'm sure the dev team will begin to focus more on the usability aspect of everything before the official 1.0 launch because realistically, the only people using beta will be people who are tech-savvy enough to figure this sort of thing out. I think it's better for the devs to focus on the internals and getting all the basic functionality complete before working on user-friendliness.

Of course, it's still good for us to share our opinion about these things so we can document them and get them taken care of in the weeks and months to come. (And I totally agree with your sentiment as I've already mentioned this before, after the previous alpha release.) Tongue

This is something that the devs are aware of. It's been brought up multiple times but right now there's just more important stuff to deal with Smiley
