S3 takes anywhere from 2-5 minutes to start mining.

When the green LED comes on, it is mining. That takes 2-5 min.

Don't be, been using speaker wire over a year.  No problems at all.  On all of my PSUs

The term 'speaker wire' is kind of vague.  Speaker wire can vary in gauge.

It may be, but logic would dictate you can't stick large speaker wire into small holes.

I've seen speaker wire that's a good 16 gauge but you'll find lesser stuff too.  Can't go wrong with 16 gauge 15 amp extension cord wire with ends cut off as long as you don't confuse polarity.  I've seen speaker wire with clear insulation have one conductor stranded copper and the other some silver colored stranded so there's that but extension cords have one conductor ribbed.  The ribbed conductor is always neutral in a 120vac application but I always make that the red and the non-ribbed black, kind of revers of the AC application.

Sure, and somebody takes an old powered amplified speaker pair from a PC, cuts off the speakers and tries running an S3 though that.

a simple piece of wire, speaker or other, is used for a jumper.  If you use old wire on a new machine, that's not smart.  Your over complicating it.

Oh,my mistake.  You mean for the jumper on a computer power supply motherboard connection to fool the power supply into acting as if it is connected to a motherboard.  I misunderstood.  I power my S3's with extension cord wire to PCIE connectors from switching supplies that have screw type barrier strips for the output.  So, an S3 is going to have 4 connections each good for 15 amps.

Tell me one good Which is better?

A paperclip is fine to use. I have used that method on dozens of PSU's. Nothing will get hot. If you don't feel comfortable with that, there are the Antminer jump switches you can purchase.

Or you can buy a switch with BTC from Cablez

seriously - the paper clip technique is not a big deal - theres literally milliwatts of power at the most that travel through it - it wont short out to anything (its already GRN-GND), it takes 5seconds and <$0.01 to do (paperclip, thin wire, etc will work)

True.  I wouldn't run it without the resistor to a low voltage pin.  KnC had a problem early on with Jupiters blowing up a capacitor.  My theory is that without the actual motherboard the low voltage wasn't there for a start up current ramp and as a result some power supplies hit the miner with voltage much higher than 12vdc blowing up the cap.

Look for this on ebay "JUMP START EPS/ATX 24 PIN POWER SUPPLY WITHOUT A MOTHERBOARD MADE IN USA"

i think any good quality PSU will avoid problems like this, and even if not 12V is often +/-1% - anything under 12.3V should be safe

so one of my blades dropped off.. i went to checked and found this


the s3 wasnt overclocked, im running 2 on a Seasonic X850 with 4 PCI-E cables with 2 ends each so all 8 are filled.. the main ones are at the front and the 2nd ones at the back..so im not running 2 blades on 1 cord.

i switched it out to one of those molex adapters for now.. and i put them on 200M.
but i dunno what caused that to melt.. it shouldnt have been overloaded.

i am fortunate because this psu has 6 8-pin pci-e spots and 5 6-pin molex.
so the melted one can be avoided.

It's low current
Roll up a piece of foil if you want. Stop over complicating this and trying to be a pain in the ass.
For that matter you can cut the wire's off the back of the plug and twist them together.
