So I am new to all this and trying to learn. Someone gave me a modded s3+ with wifi. Where should I point this thing to do the best. Electricity is free and it is running off a 700W power supply with all connections. I know I won't get rich but with it running for 1 day and pointed at Nicehash it made like a $1. Excuse the ignorance but any info is appreciated. Thanks

No pool will make you rich with an S3 Thats sad but true! You should find some of his brothers to get a little bit more with free electricity ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Like I said I know I won't get rich but any money is free money since I didn't have to buy the gear or pay for power. That is why I wanted the most bang for my worker. I setup my rig to go to Kano. It has the ability to set the frequency up to 300 I only have it at 250 now. What is the best setting for that? Thanks again for the suggestion for the pool.

Personally I wouldn't go anymore than 250M I ran one of my S3+ for a couple of months and one of the chips is now gone. Now got both of them at 243M and have been stable for a month or so. Both hashing at around 480Ghs.

Ok good to know...I will leave it where it is. It seems pretty stable at that. I turned it up a little yesterday but didn't know how much of a difference it made so I turned it back down.

By all means if you want to try then its upto you but youd need to run it at the new frequency for a day or so to see what the average hashrate is so you can see the difference.

I just didn't want to risk damaging it if the rewards were not much better. According to the dashboard of the s3 my current avg hash was 513

At 250M mone would hash around 498-502Ghs over the course of 3-4 days.

I have had some of my S3+ running on 250 for several month without any issues. They need ~50W more from the PSU.

If you have the S3+, it will hash exactly at 503GH/s at 250MH. Been like that for the last 1.5 years. Rock Solid STABLE!

I run my S3+ at 250 also, it stays solid at 500GH. Runs really well with kano's updates software package, too. I will be hosting some gear pretty soon, and when I do I'll bring the S3+ back out because you can just set it and forget it.

Thanks for the input guys. I am leaving this one running at 250 for now. I think it has the Kano update.

Can you elaborate on "kano's updates software package"? Is it for S3+ only or S3 as well? How to install/apply it on S3/S3+?

Kanos firmware update basically makes the antminers run smoother and quicker. They don't affect the hashrate but the giu loads quicker, you have a couple of extra options within the menus etc. The S3 update can be found here:- https://bitbucket.org/TheKano/cgminer-binaries/src/f5884bfece7a8dfd48550cb172272212459be51c/AntS3/?at=masterIve got it running on both my S3+'s with no problems at all.

Just found it and applied myself moments before - thanks anyway for replay. ------------------------------ Next question - I need to slow down my batch of S3/S3+ during work hours. I am doing it now manually by changing Frequency. Can this be done with crontab? Can you give me sample of crontab for that?

It's no longer being worked on but should still work on M's ant monitor - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=596178.0 . It was pretty popular at one point, but has lost some popularity with no longer being worked on. It should allow scheduling pretty easily. You might be able to do it with crontab aswell.

I've got a couple of S3+ units and a 500W power supply (been running them both for a month or so) that I'm selling, if anyone's interested. EDIT: Sorry! Brain-dead here. The 500W PS ran only one s3+. ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif)

500W is too small for an S3, I'm surprised you haven't melted it down yet. A good rule of thumb is to not exceed 80% of the rated power of the psu.
