I am brand new to hyp (just bout 25k) and have a few questions.

1) what is weight and how does it work?

2) How big should I set my block sizes to in hopes of getting stakes ?

3) Do you get staked faster the larger block size you have?

4) I had read that around 5k per block was good however might not be so now.

Thank you in advance for any answers you can provide.

I am brand new to hyp (just bout 25k) and have a few questions.

1) what is weight and how does it work?

A simplified answer can be:

weight = block size * block age

stake = block hash bits < target bits * weight

The difficulty is the inverse of the target bits. I.e., the bigger the weight, the more chances to stake.

2) How big should I set my block sizes to in hopes of getting stakes ?

Big enough to stake in a reasonable time. I would leave your block of 25k as it is or split it into two parts.

3) Do you get staked faster the larger block size you have?

Yes. See above.

4) I had read that around 5k per block was good however might not be so now.

It is still good, but it depends on how much time you are ready to wait and how many coins you have. If you had a big number of 5k blocks, then some of them could stake faster comparing to the average time of staking this block size, thus making you wait less till your first stakes. And, of course, the effective APR is bigger with the smaller block sizes.

Thank you in advance for any answers you can provide.

You are welcome. Be sure to read the FAQ, it can also give you some answers.

The 25k coins is currently all that I have invested atm. I do plan on adding more in the future, as I gain more bitcoin etc. I will probably be looking at adding an additional 25k or so coins every 2 weeks. I was originally going to split all my blocks into 5k sized blocks, however, it sounds like they get staked more frequently at a larger size even though the reward is the same. I am leaving wallet open 24/7 with the exception of the occasional reboot, I would assume that gives me a better chance of being staked? My next deposit I may look into doing a 12k and a 13k block. Also once my smaller 5k blocks stake maybe combine some of them to 10 or 12k each.

There is a max amount of blocks that can be found each day, so letting your wallet run 24/7 is a must.
Richt now I am staking stacks of 10K, might increase it a bit later this year.

How quickly do you stake with 10k blocks ?

I am asking blindly because my first set of blocks aren't even mature for another 2 days. Im pretty new. I started out at 5k blocks.

I would say about 30-40 days.
We all had to learn what the best stack size would be, and it's an ongoing process.

The explorer shows some handy information http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/HYP/

You can see on the chart that the average stake has around 150,000 weight. This is roughly equivalent to a block of 10k HYP at ~15 days.

But one thing to keep in mind is that as Trololol mentioned, there are only about 960 stakes per day network wide. This is all a game of statistics. The more blocks you have, the more tries to stake you are producing every second. The more weight you have per block, the more likely that specific block will be to stake.

The age old question in HYP is whether it is better to have smaller blocks or larger blocks. Smaller blocks will create more tries to stake per second (each block tries once per second) but they have less weight each. Larger blocks have less tries per second, but more weight.

Everyone has a different opinion on the correct block size, and it is something you will get the feel of as you start rolling in the stakes over time.

No, I have 25 conns right now.
Your problem might be caused by your ISP, sometimes it happens with my wallet too.
Normally I have 64-65 which is the max I get.

Windows Firewall will do that, if you don't go under control panel, windows firewall, and
allow a program  or feature thru Windows Firewall.
Go in and select Hyperstake to make sure windows does not randomly block connections.

Can't say as I got any chicks with Linux either...

And in addition to dodging that bullet, I got an operating system that don't constantly fuck up my computer Cheesy

Though I have to admit that Skype for Windows is less annoying than skype for linux and android. The latter being an abortion.
