Hello community. I am sad to bring a bit of bad news, but after hours upon hours of testing, the new Tor client repeatedly forked when trying to connect to the live APEX blockchain. In short, APEX's genesis block, which was originally forked from BOOST, is incompatible with Tor. We have completed a different fork of APEX that has Tor, and it is fully functional, but cannot run it on the current blockchain without forking. The only way would be to perform a coinswap, much like CAIx and SHIBE did. Unfortunately, literally every coin that has attempted this has seen their prices tank into oblivion, and not a single one has recovered. That is a problem for us, as we have put a lot into this project and do not want to see our coin suffer such a fate. The multipool is still on the way in about 2 week's time, and we believe that if we focus on something else, such as a webkit wallet with built in Bittrex/Cryptsy exchange, we can continue without Tor. However, this coin is as much the community's as it is ours, and if everyone feels strongly enough for it, we can perform the coinswap. Just remember, for whatever reason, literally every coin that has done it has died. This is not an opinion, it is a lesson from history.
FYI, CAIx price didn't tank due to the coinswap, it tanked for many other reasons.

What were the reasons for the coin swaps on other coins? I believe they all had issues, were forked, or had other problems? A swap by itself doesn't indicate any specific reason a coin should tank, especially if it's swapping to gain new features. I'd think it's early enough in the coin's life that it wouldn't negatively affect any value, but I may be in the minority opinion there.

I highly reccommend that we do not tamper with the coin i any way.
This coin has achieved its price due to what it is originally and not tor.
We should rather look at being innovated at something else like minerals
but guarenteed you mess with forks and chain the coin you can kiss your investments
goodbye. HISTORY does tell lessons and the dev is absolutley spot on with this
history repeats itself its not a cliche its a fact.

If you (or I should say the community) decides not to fork for TOR, I suggest trying to add something else quickly. Be it an explorer, newer wallet, mobile wallet... more exchanges... articles... something. People will want to see the dev being able to deliver something useful, otherwise we'll just be staring at posts complaining about the lack of TOR.
Not entirely sure how the price will react, it already took a bit of a tumble, but it was already pretty low to begin with, so I'm not sure if people already figured TOR in the price or not. So it could recover, so long as the devs are active.

Swapping the coin just for Tor integration isn`t worth it imho. Seeing as how Apex is PoS and still doesnt have a mobile wallet, maybe there is a possibility in developing a mining mobile wallet, that generates PoS blocks, something like Lightcoin has. This is just an idea to keep positive thoughts of future development, ok it cannot have Tor, for me personally this is not a big deal, and I seriously dont see the need for a swap just for Tor..

yeah all the wallet platforms need to be launched so that everyone can use it.

CAIx swapped to implement PoS. Shibe did to fix their very badly coded coin. Blitz did as a relaunch because their coin was even worse. Those are off the top of my head, but they all had reasons...

Throughout the testing phase of TOR the ApexCoin devs have been saying that testing is proceeding successfully. Now to come back and say it is impossible to integrate TOR without a hard fork sounds suspicious to me. I am left wondering why this problem wasn't found until right up until the Tor deadline. It sounds like a lack of knowledge and skill on the part of the devs, not a good sign for a coin that brags about its adaptability in the crypto space. Right now the Apex community has waited for weeks for what could essentially be vaporware. I and many others have no reason to trust subsequent promised features will be released at all. The Apex devs need to implement some essential feature within the next couple of days or the trust in this community will be lost. Forget about waiting for polls and implement now otherwise this coin is done. Let's see that adaptability bragged about in the ANN.

Got to say, I agree with this. Sounds pretty suspicious to me. I say we all vote for a new feature with a relatively quick turn around to see if the devs can actually deliver.

Yes, we agree. The issue was discovered yesterday in final phases of testing, but the Tor dev wanted to test all possible solutions in case there was a way to make it work with the current genesis block. We wanted to give him a chance, so we held off on the announcement until this morning. We had no reason to lie about this, as there is no way for us to profit from it. We have a working and fully functional Tor implemented coin. It just is not compatible with the current blockchain. In an attempt to salvage the situation, we are working on a new wallet with extra features, and will post it here when it becomes available. The multipool is still coming.

I read that the TOR network was horribly slow anyway. PLUS, governments (e.g. the US and Russian governments) are either working on cracking into TOR or have already done so. So let's not give up hope. If the word spreads that TOR is getting cracked into left and right, the network will become obsolete. So maybe it's better that we didn't get into that after all.
I have a couple suggestions for the APEX team.
- Surprise us with new features It's great that you guys ask us what to do next, but I don't think that's the right method of gaining momentum. You have to shock the world with your own ideas, while taking some ideas now and then. For example, you guys develop a fancy, new wallet with encryption and whatever, and we just provide stylistic suggestions (e.g. more colorful buttons or a prettier dashboard). - Think outside of the box You guys have to think of things that common people would never have thought of. The reason why APEX is barely known is partly attributed so it's typical advancements. It doesn't have anything that really sets it apart from other coins. Yes, it uses X13. Yes, people have a say in what goes into it. But we need more, and for that to happen, we need innovative ideas that push the bounds of what a cryptocurrency usually does. - You have to build from within Develop your own networks. Hire new, fresh developers to help you guys. It doesn't seem like a lot of you guys are on the team. Add a "Careers" button on the bottom of your website. Get the word out that you need more developers and marketers. The more developers you have, the less likely the coin will just drift away into the abyss. Instead of TOR, make an entirely new network that enhances security. Although "Adaptive" is the first word in the acronym, that doesn't mean that you should copy everything that others do. Build something new. I'm sure your heads can come up with something. Get everyone in a group and brainstorm. - PR should definitely be in the near future, but not now You guys definitely have to do a couple interviews in the coming weeks. If you can snag one with Business Insider, that would be ideal. I found out about Ripple on that site. Ripple has great PR. They're always going to events and speaking. However, for now, just work on developing the coin. It doesn't make sense to promote something that has no substance. That article on APEX a couple days ago by AltcoinToday was nice, but it barely said anything that we didn't already know. After you have the basic structure with a few frills, GET THE WORD OUT.

Indeed. Way too much altcoins nowadays count on yet another gadget that, if it is new, is copied in no time by other coins. It seems that almost no coin focuses on real integration in our society. Don't focus too much on your miners, bagholders or investors, but on how to make it being accepted by a by far bigger audience outside this narrow speculation environment that the cryptoworld has become nowadays. If you are interested in what I am alluding to, you can check http://treasure.hol.es and btw I sure could use some input on this project of mine.

No TOR - No problem TOR is not everything, there are so many other features to look into. But i agree, we need something and we need it fast, or else investors will lose tust in the coin. The price is affected by the recent bad news. BUT look at the bright side, these prices is a gift for new investors - and this is good for distribution. Lesson from this: Check if feature is prossible to add before announcing/adding to poll (I am no tech so I don't know if this is difficult to check beforehand) A new wallet would be a turnaround, and we can move forward from there. Motto of the day: What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!
