Building on the great idea of Lightsplasher and his mountain in disguise (I hope he doesn't mind), I've started a game of Magi Trivial Pursuit over on the m-talk.org forum.

Further details are available on this thread:

http://m-talk.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=92

Answers may only be posted on that forum, and therefore you will need to register there.

There will be 10 questions. The first correct answer receives a 10 Magi reward, but the best answer receives a 15 Magi reward. More details at the above link. I hope a few people decided to play and it turns out to be a bit of fun.

If anyone was interested in this sort of thing, I just got very snappy in the Magi forum thread and it caused Phillc to decide to prematurely end his contest. I'm sorry if that affects anyone who wished to participate negatively. If you still wish to participate please post in his thread (above) and perhaps Phillc will reconsider and continue running his contest.

As for myself, I think I probably deserve to be banned for that behavior. It was detrimental to the community and its morale and I am sorry for that, but being sorry does not excuse what I did. If I cause even one person to leave the community or stop supporting it by lashing out, the one who should be leaving is me, not they.

I would hate to see either of you stay upset over this; on-line communicating can have its ups and downs and lead to frustrations and mis-communications at times.  Nice idea Phillc, I appreciate the effort you have made thus far.

The good old days of public humiliation and scourging are but a distant memory for me, I think some people called it “school”, so I'm at a loss as to what to suggest.  Cheesy  (Just kidding) Perhaps listening to some joyful music like Rage Against the Machine might be helpful to get you both back into proper form.  The Magi community seems pretty tolerant and open minded, I doubt anyone will cast any banishment spells, so no worries.  Wink Cheesy

I'm not upset anymore. And I really don't think Phillc reacted unjustly, given that I was acting like a spoiled child. There will definitely be no hard feelings on my end.  Smiley

PoM3 donated percentages from us older miners going to newer ones with limited hash rates for a set amount of time to help them started? Just a thought.

Nice idea! You mean this for POM3?
Why not? 1% goes automatically to the pool operator and we (the miners) never even notice it. So all that would really need to be done would have the donated % go to support PoM3 or have a separate dedicated donation option in the poll for it (so donations could still be made to the operator). The amount given to those who sign up could be based off a simple formula (their hash vs. donated hash) with a set max amount based off their hash. In this way PoM3 (donated) coin balance could be maintained. Those who would wish to take advantage of PoM3 would need to fill out a more strict set of rules. The team would need to know what they are mining with (to set a bias for max hash rate possible). A dedicated page for filing the forms would be needed (set up same way a faucet does to block the same user from getting rich off it). Just need enough hoops to discourage those who would abuse the system but not too much to stop a new miner. I think in this way we could give more to some1 with a Pentium Pro then some1 with an I7. multiple registrations from the same IP wouldn't be allowed this way, older miner could give back, and encourage new miners. Possibilities could be Mr. P. Pro getting 50-100% and Mr. I7 getting 1-20% more for lets say 3 months. Any one new could benefit, cheaters would be discouraged, and the rest of us would be pushing out the farms and helping the community grow. This would be a lot of work for the team but, I would donate to this would any one else? And yes I still have a Pentium Pro. Grin

Nice idea; I do have intention to launch the 3rd PoM, but with a different idea and making it a long-term project. Let's see how things are going.

Oh Joelao, i have something to ask you: sometimes my hashrate is higher than average, like 220 vs 180, if i raise my hashrate to 220-230, maybe sometimes the max hashrate will go pass 250, will i get warning/banned because of that? I asked this because I saw some miners pass the limit sometime, while most time they are below the limit.

Think if they are most of the time below the limit it will be ok.
Joe will confirm this later but i think he is sleeping at the moment.

Yeah, i think so too, but the rule is "max hashrate", so we should make it clear it's max of average hashrate per hour or max hashrate  Grin

I don't think so, it's known that pool doesn't show exact hashrate as your miner - pool can show +/- 30 kh/s
If you don't want to go above 250 on pool, just stay lower than 220 on your miners

...but anyway, Joe will say for sure.

Cheers

I would like to participate to the POM. Is that possible?
I only found out of the magi coin at the 7th of March 2015 and have been mining since that day.

I have seen my hashrate go as high as 300 and as low as 150 without touching my rig, so +/- 30 is a bit conservative I think.

I need a few people to do some Alpha testing for me with some new software. If you have been watching this thread, then you know what it is Wink - yep it's the Silicon Simmerer. I have tested it on a limited number of machines, but it needs to be tried out on a greater number of different types of machine to assess the performance more universally.

Remember that we are talking about Alpha software here - no clever GUI - and you will need to be comfortable with editing a parameter file using a text editor. You will also have to install SpeedFan onto your computer and set up data logging. Think you are up to that? Like to help me out? Please send me a PM.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, a higher diff will definitely make the hashrate fluctuate more. But sometimes your rig can be just lucky to find a lot of shares.
Since the pool is set up mainly for the POM, I think it's a good idea to increase the period of time over which the average is measured to even out the results some more.

I raised this issue one time before in a slightly different context. I think you can rest assured that the problem of occasional over-reporting of hashrate by the Pool is known about and will not be a problem. Quite often, I see gross over-reporting of the total pool hashrate when I gather the pool statistics too. There is obviously a weakness in the way the pool calculates the figures and I have learned to live with it ... grudgingly Wink

Yeah, you setup your worker wrong. Wrong password or wrong pool's username or wrong worker name  Roll Eyes and make sure you created your workers  Roll Eyes
