As it has been said several times, the sell walls are short positions. Whenever a hefty scare wall appears, the interest rates soars. Therefore I am not afraid of them.
Actually it is a way to make money to buy those walls and set equalent amount of Moneros for sale 5-10 % higher.

Some traders are still scarred from years of altcoin scams. Some think $170M market cap is a lot but for a legitimate currency it is not. Anybody shorting booming cryptocurrencies is obviously suicidial as even if you're right the market might not care. Besides the risk and reward of longing vs shorting is heavily favoring long positions.

Poking around on an onion-address market, I ran into this, which pleased me to no end:

" PURCHASE 5 UNITS WITH MONERO (XMR) AND RECEIVE THE 6th UNIT FREE "

At least some vendors prefer Monero quite strongly, to the point of offering an effective 17% discount.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Give a man a Poisson distribution and he eats at random times independent of one another, at a constant known rate.

Question in regards it to a cold wallet, moneroaddress.

When depositing coins to your cold wallet, you can check to see if you received them. You just have to enter the view key, public address, and tx id on xmr.llcoins.

Now, how can I check if there have been any transactions since you've initially deposited them? Verifying that there hasn't been a hack on your wallet>
There is currently no easy way to do this. However, in the future there might:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/51i0n7/solved_it_hopefully_heres_how_we_can_make_the/
What would be the best currently available (though not easy) way to do this?

First, you'd have to fully sync the blockchain on an online computer. Second, copy simplewallet, bitmonerod, and the blockchain to an USB and plug that into the offline computer. Third, use bitmonerod in offline modus (--offline flag) and it should use the blockchain you have already synced on the online computer. Fourth, use --restore-deterministic-wallet to create a wallet with your seed offline. Lastly, use refresh to sync your wallet. It will refresh up to the last block you have synced online. It should then show all the transactions (both incoming and outgoing) of your offline wallet up to that block.

Privacy matters, use Monero - A true untraceable cryptocurrency

I do not believe how people are taking short positions. Almost all the Moneros from lending markets are now employed....  Shocked

I have some out. 0.7%+ per day/21% a month/255.5% a year. With these rates traders won't be short for long. Sideways for a few days or a minor increase in price will cause most of these short positions to be closed.

I've started to do the same... it's too attractive not to get a piece of the action

This trend will make Polo increasingly juicy for a hack / inside heist. Admittedly and irresponsibly I have not looked deeply into their security or insurance situation.

Given all the downward pressure from the shorting, the price is holding up remarkably well.

Can we start a fund to raise capital for a full time developer or two perhaps?

I think that's a good idea but it's one that would probably be better voiced within the reddit subreddit.

The forum on getmonero.org has a fantastic funding system. Several developers has been paid through this. So far notably moneromoo and also the GUI development etc.

That's quite an ordeal. I think someone (moneromooo?) was working on a way of getting the key image from a transaction so you can check the spent status using Moneroblocks API... (like Luigi's coin checker)

The way I see it it is generally Bitcoin being stolen so the Bitcoin I keep at exchanges I buy other coins with and if not I withdraw them no exceptions to that rule. Stealing all Monero from Poloniex when the only liquid market is Poloniex is a frivolous pursuit and if you find a hole in their security and use that opportunity to steal Monero before Bitcoin you are too retarded to find that hole in the first place.

In the cold wallet:
export_key_images somefilename

Copy somefilename to the hot wallet where your view only wallet is

In the view wallet:
import_key_images somefilename

As the inputs owned by the wallet are spent, the view wallet should see those spends.
Obviously, if the cold wallet receives new inputs (including change), those key images will need importing too for them to be trackable.

I don't know Monero's IRC channels too well so will have to spam here. Sorry about that.

The first international, if not Global, Monero Summit, is being planned to be held in Estonia. Confirmed interest is from me, fluffypony, othe and Roger Ver (plus many others). We seek to have a 40 people event in the nice Rakvere Aqva Spa, with pre- and afterparties and a grand dinner in my castle nearby. Event planning thread.

The dates are not fixed at the moment, the range is from Oct-15 till Christmas. Express your interest! Smiley

Of course. That's always a good indicator if you are long.

Good indicators that the whale manipulator switched sides. Tongue

I'm guessing the fake sell orders and accompanying fake selloff, in combination with the soon-to-be breakout, were just to lure noobs and bears into a short squeeze.

True, but I still find it quite extraordinary that 1 btc can only buy 1/10th of the coins it could just a few weeks ago.

I want so bad to buy more, but wow... that mental barrier is still taking me time to adjust to! Tongue

I'm adjusting OK, BTC has conditioned me somewhat.  You just have to convince yourself that even if you make a poor call on the timing, and the price goes down, eventually you will be able to call these 'cheap coinz'  Grin

Impressive halt once again on the dumping, though it did swallow a good chunk of the realistic bids.  Also impressive is that the book is inexorably refilling.  Again.

Maybe this will help you adjust.  As I see things in XMR and not btc I look at it like this instead....  You need 10X the btc to buy the same amount of Monero.  I guess that doesn't make it better, it makes it worse.

Edit: Forget it, Explorer says Cheap Coinz!

I keep nibbling because I am *so* close to reaching my next accumulation goal.  If it goes much higher, I doubt it will ever happen, so my window of opportunity is potentially quite small.  Funny, you know that when the growth happens, it happens lightning fast, but to experience it (again) does leave one slightly bewildered, and looking under all of the sofa cushions.  And through the sock drawer, and old coat pockets, and...
