That certainly looks interesting. You could just stick those on a concrete slab with 4 walls and not need any insulation or fans at all Smiley

Yes, and then I drive up in a flatbed truck and cart a multimillion dollar container off. Nothx.

Of course it needs to be in secure building it goes without saying.

We have now crossed the 5 ghash line. At this rate, we should be past 10 ghash before the end of July.

It sounds like the plan is to use outside air for 8-9 months of the year.

This is ok, but keep in mind that you'll also need equipment to filter and condition that air (add or remove humidity depending on the season).

I've been doing the open-windows-with-box-fans thing and you wouldn't believe how much dirt (and now pollen) come in.  In the winter we had more static than usual, and when it rains it comes in (didn't really snow here this winter).  This is fine at my office, but probably wouldn't suit your operation.

I know humidifiers rated to run 24x7 aren't cheap and require water service, which you might not have considered.

Actually, thats the funny thing. Computers can work in humidity that is too dry or too wet for us to be comfortable. There are these things called economizers that exist to pass filtered air into the building instead of running the air conditioner to do the same thing.

You can also have economizers for water cooled setups, and use cooling towers to cool the water over long term periods (the math here, from what I can tell, with a cooling tower + external pump efficiency of EER 14, cooling 3 gallons/minute 10 degrees lower is equivalent to 1 ton).

Getting too dry doesn't seem to be an issue in Maine, even in the winter.

Yeah most industrial equipment that I have seen is rated with humidity tolerances between 5 and 90 percent, non-condensing. Servers are only a little tighter on those restrictions, but still far outside the normal human comfort range.

No, but its also a sin to let the money sit. Lets say I would have bought that 5 ghash straight out in harcdware... that would have taken 3-9 months to get here, yet I've already paid the first dividend 15 days in this way. I think its a win win situation.

Seriously, why didn't anyone tell me?! I could be off having lesbian sex with myself!

So I'm assuming you will be adding BFL ASIC rigs to this setup instead of whatever else you were planning? At ~$30k per terahash, it doesn't seem space-efficient to use anything else even if power and cooling were free.

I don't believe BFL's offerings. That is just impossible, they would have had needed access to a 28nm fab somewhere.

To me the interesting part of this offering is the ability to sell power back to the grid. This means you can get a return even if bitcoin mining goes bust. And you can always rent the space out for other companies that need a DC.

The ASIC seems like it wil be a long way off if it gets off the ground at all. I also believe they will be sending out old bfl singles they get back because of the trade in offer to their old customers still on the waiting list then they will not have to build all the singles they have on pre order Smiley

In b4 fractional manufacturing.....

Well, the guy who runs BMF has been basically character assassinating my plan on IRC (plan assassinating?) because he thinks "small" scale (as in, less than hundreds of mw and up) power generation (green or not) is not cost effective and cannot turn a profit.

The thing is, I actually want to roll that out first BEFORE the DC, it seems to be just so much more profitable and easier to scale.

That'd be interesting. I forgot about the carbon offset market.

That guy is so fucking fucking... why bother?   Roll Eyes  He isn't even good at trolling.  Cry

Who on earth would waste their time with these stupid videos.

Also... DMC has been going very, cheap, on GLBSE.   By-far the best-value mining stock listed.

One off NP-Hard.
