Can someone clarify how staking really works and why I am getting weird numbers in the spendable tab? For some reason I have 0.514 ''spendable'' slr even though my stake is a lot more than that. Shouldn't I be able to spend the coins I already had before block 830000? I'm worried that my wallet file got corrupted.. My total balance is fine , only the spendable is displaying 0.514 SLR even though there is no transaction for that amount. I have no idea why it's keeping those 0.514? Is everything fine with my wallet or do I need to reload it from a old backup wallet.dat file?
The old coins are being staked. If you need some coins to be set aside to spend, set your Reserve Balance in Setting->Options. -Steve

Issue in 2.0.4 (not sure if it existed in 2.0.3, but I think I did see it in 2.0.1, there was no time to re-create, the issue is period-of-time dependent):
Description (no specific numbers, will further investigate if needed):
1. While still in 2.0.3 (re-installed ~18 hours ago) spendable amount started decreasing and staking increasing as expected, total being correct as expected (spendable+staking+interest). 2. Upgraded to 2.0.4 about 10 hours ago. 3. 10 blocks found since then, all in the first 2 hours (until non-reserved spendable got almost exhausted - see below) 4. I also did have a non-staking reserve purposely set while still in 2.0.3, increased it in 2.0.4 5. 1-2 hours ago, spendable was down close to the reserve amount, with some SLRs left to go staking before the non-staking reserve was reached - my intention was to test that specific functionality. 6. I check again several minutes ago, and see Spendable back up to almost the initial balance (but not quite there). As pointed out in 3., last block found was almost 8 hours ago, so the change in numbers is apparently not related to finding a block BUT 7. Staking amount has NOT decreased. Did not track the numbers precisely for this test, but it looks like Staking stays at the max number it had reached. 8. Total is now wrong - it is almost double the actual number The wrong Total number appears in 2 places - in the Balance stats, as well as on the bar to the left of the Staking circle. 9. Transaction History does NOT update to the wrong Total number even when I update it the usual way, so I guess the History Total is apparently CORRECT 9. Number of confirmations of the first block found ~18 hours ago - 103 as of now (time of writing) 10. Number of confirmations of the first block found in 2.0.4 - 72 as of now (time of writing) I was expecting to start seeing Spendable go back up only after interest confirmations reached the 501 as noted.
Edit: 11. Just re-scanned the wallet, it is back to the correct numbers as of point 5 above.
Issue with unexpected increase in Spendable leading to a wrong Total remains. A requirement to re-scan wallet when that happens is NOT ACCEPTABLE
Edit: 12. Wallet got into the wrong numbers again, same large portion of Spendable erroneously shows on the Stats, and summed up with Staking gives the wrong Total. Restarting the wallet does not fix the numbers displayed, only re-scanning fixes it as pointed out in 11, but just for a while.
Will now upgrade to 2.0.5 and look forward to witnessing (or better not) the same issue.
Many of these anomalies will clear up when the block rate increases. Currently we are at 24 blocks per hour. That will improve over the next few days. -Steve

With 2.0.5, both the bootstrap and the wallet updates are downloaded from the dedicated server now. My update went fast and smooth, and worked as originally intended.

Issue does not appear in 2.0.5 yet. I will also wait for the BlockChain explorer to be fully functional and up-to-date to last block, also interest awards to start confirming & balances begin staking a second time, and if the above issue does not replicate by then, I will stop PoW mining.

No, but the rewards are greater for those that do, and the network is stronger when everyone stakes. It's really quite similar to mining, but much "greener". -Steve

Yes it does need to be run 24/7 But just turn off your monitor to save $ Yes, technically, you cannot stake if you don't run your wallet. -Steve

-Steve Thanks for the clarification. And thank you for your hard work Could you help me find out if I have done something wrong? Before I installed 2.05 I deleted my Solarcoin folder in %appdata% ( I obviously kept my wallet.dat file) and uninstalled solarcoin. Then I restarted my computer and installed 2.05 It looks like the wallet is now using way less cpu power.. however I'm not sure it's working the way it should for me I haven't found any blocks since version 2.04 with a rather large stake, so I just wanted to double check if it's all fine... This morning it said: time to earn interest: 4 hours. As time went by this number kept growing and now it says 1 day. Shouldn't I be finding more blocks considering I have over 300k slr? Thx

Thx It sounds like it is working. When your coins staked earlier, the coin age was reset, so they have to now earn coin age > 8 hours before they will stake again. Also, as is my case, the coins have to have a minimum of 500 confirmations to stake, which is taking longer than 8 hours with our current block rate. i don't expect to earn any interest for another 203 blocks (probably another 10 hours at this rate). -Steve EDIT: This could be sped up by getting more 1.5 wallets on 2.0.5.

Question: What happens, when all available Spendable balances in all currently available (online) wallets go to Staking, and there are ~150-200 confirmations left before the Interest awards begin getting confirmed and coins released from Staking back to Spendable? With no Spendable left, who finds next block?
