If anyone was having connection problems over the last half hour, they should be resolved now.
My main master DNS server is dead so I've switched over one of the slaves to master and all should be OK again.

All was and is ok with my U2 miner...it's a beast (lol) it mines only if it want.

Yeah at worst it should only have affected anyone restarting/connecting a new miner.
I've now come to the conclusion that no one is very reliable Tongue
In this case it's a dead node at linode.

One of my miners went offline can't get access till tomorrow. This has happened 3-4 times. Anyone know what would cause a s5 to need a reboot after 4-5 days. Temps are 50's it's on a 1200watt psu running at 400. Upon arrival the fan will be spinning and look like its mining but it won't be. It will not ping or do anything till I restart it. It will also not be hot as its not mining

Never ran my s5's at 400.
Even 350 was pushing it for me.
The lack of fan shroud and only one fan was a big factor.
I needed remote pdu's to allow me to power cycle and get around the lockup scenario.

Hi all

Maybe someone can help

Last week I saw a post from someone had noticed a considerable drop in their rewards for same work done, I had already noticed this as well, but because mining is just a hobby thing hadn't looked into it to deeply.

I had noticed that the pool had recently jumped from 2ph to 6ph and thought that this was great as more hash/people must equal more reward, but I am now not so sure this is correct, I am not even sure that more hash/people even equals 'same reward', but maybe I haven't understood something, so might need walking through it by someone.

Two example days, when I was mining with an S3. please note that I do not mine constantly, its a hobby, so I have picked two days when I'm sure I mined all day

18th nov
384195    18/Nov 19:04   24.82829424   329.586G   178hr 36m 31s   2.20PHs   0.00%   13.514M   90.27GHs   0.00101805

24th Dec
389909    24/Dec 02:59    25.39503317   469.643G   100hr 41m 17s   5.56PHs   0.00%   4.522M   53.58GHs   0.00024451

First thing I noticed is that on the 18th when the pool was only 2.2ph I got more that 4x the reward than I did on the 25th when the pool was 5.56ph, I can see and understand that as the pool gets larger my S3  is a smaller and smaller share of the total ph and so get I a smaller share of the total reward.

It seems that now the pool is at 6ph to get the same reward as when it was 2ph means I would have to invest in more miners to keep my same share of the total, but for lots of people, myself included this isn't going to happen, when I look at the stats of the pool, I note that probably 40% of the pool individual users have a hash rates below 2th, probably  people are like myself with a few S3's S5's or multiples or combinations of similar. I wonder how many of those people have noticed a drop in overall rewards, or like me, were blinkered by the slightly higher block find rate

My guess is that the slowdown in payments as the hash has risen to the 6ph is more easily noticed by people who are still >1ph using just one or two S3's than those people with higher hash rates.

Anyway, started feeling that I was getting left behind, so started to look at other pools, and so I moved my small S3 to somewhere else, and left it running a few days.

I joined a pool that was approx 39ph hash rate, finding many blocks per day, and even though it was PPS I found that I was getting many times per day than here at Kano

I have earned about 0.00164 just today alone, and the days only half way through.

The other thing I noticed is having a hash rate of 6phh also effected the payment on shift hours dropped from 178hrs to 100hrs for those two days.

It seems like using the S3 or similar is still ok, but that there seems to be a honey spot of PH, which at around 2ph and not so many users, spending 80hrs mining still Kano gave a payment that is worthwhile, but that at 6ph when it can still take 30 hours a block or 5 days for 5 blocks, that its actually proven better for me to jump right to a 40ph pool and get lots of tiny payments.

Of course luck always helps, but luck is a part of whichever pool your mining.

at the moment, it looks to myself like most of the smaller hash rate people are loosing out, and the only way to stay the same reward here is to mine more hash rate, find another small 2ph pool or do like I did and go for a much larger pool finding lots more blocks, Maybe I have missed or not understood something basic?

StevenD,
you've forgot one last but not least thing - Network Difficulty.
Nov 18 - 65G diff
Dec 24 - 93G diff
it raised for +47% roughly

And pool hashrate raised from 2.2 PH/s to 5.56 PH/s,  +152%

so your part from the total submitted shares count is very small.

Shift hours dropped because of pool luck for last blocks. Please read once again about 5Nd payout.

With your S3 unfortunately you will earn almost nothing these days, it might be good idea to try lottery at solo.ckpool.org and maybe you are lucky

Hi e46btc

I can see that the network diff has risen, but the basic same 93G  network diff was paid out on by the 40ph pool over the last 3 days is basically same diff as the 24th payout that I listed and got paid here at Kano's, yet I earned quite a lot more elsewhere, again because the 40ph pool found 3 to 6 blocks per day, and the Kano even paying back for work done as part of the 5Nd doesn't make up those extra block payments I received elsewhere.

This is why I said I think there's something like a sweet spot, which when Kano pool was at 2ph and with me being one of the smaller pool hash supporters, it actually worked out and paid out ok, but now that its gone to 6ph it doesn't, suspect this will change when the pool becomes bigger, because as it finds more blocks per day, it will probably make it worthwhile again, as I found with the 40ph pool that I just joined, where the S3 is an even smaller part of the total hash rate than I am here at Kano, but I am earning more.

from the stats page, its simple to see that now with the pool at 5.75ph, that those over 50TH which is less than 20 of the top users are actually making up over 4ph of the 5.75ph. so 320 of the 340 users are sharing 30% of the payout, It could be that those top 20 users at Kano, find the opposite to me, that because they take 70% of the reward for the block, they earn more at Kano than if they were smaller 50% or 40% hashers of a slightly larger 25ph pool, so that dragging along an extra 2ph of slower S3 and S5 users at Kano makes this 5.75ph their sweet spot pool.

The only way here at Kano's pool that I can currently see to make the same as a month ago, is to buy three times the miners, but I would be spending to make no extra.

So for now I think pointing them elsewhere is making it worthwhile, I am a smaller tiny fish in their 40ph, but many payments per day actually seems to be giving me better returns.

You say that you mine off and on, you picked two "days" that you mined all day, but did you mine the full 5N prior to those blocks you picked? The answer is no. If you look at your average hashrate for those two blocks you picked you will see the average rate for the first one was 90ghs the second was 53ghs, so my guess is that you mined for nearly 1.7x longer during the 5N of the first block.

You can't compare blocks, you would need to compare something like a full week or month, and would need to mine for the same amount of time.

The other pool you were using was probably PPS, and for short duration would appear to payout better, but if you looked at a longer timespan it will be less then you would be getting here (as long as our luck stays as good as it has been).
