Thanks Karn "Songcoin" (the crypto) will form part of the Songcoin network. The Songcoin platform is designed to facilitate micro investment by fans in digital music using Songcoins as the basis of exchange. Why did we decide on our own coin? Because we wanted a target currency that identifies itself with the chosen market.

We hope to be talking more about this at the Cryptocon in Singapore Nov24-25.

Great to hear your getting on board, it would be good for Songcoin if a few more exchanges embraced it too. Well, early days I guess.

The hash rate seems to have stabilized around 200Mh/s for the past few days.  Good to see steady support at this level from the mining crew.  Music media taking notice, requesting info. this is good.

Bitshares music is definitely promising. At least they are trying out a genuine idea instead of another altcoin scam.
I think fans might still be inclined to pay for music they like, and the artist also gains by offloading some of the 'shares' of a song on to speculators, so the artist makes 'guaranteed' money. That's the advantage with a speculative market - you can offload the risk and have something to gain.

I'll try,

The start of the process is the artist or license holder requesting/allowing promotion of a song on the Songcoin network. Assume for the following premise the artist has registered and passed the relevant tests of origin and ownership / copyright.

Songcoin (or other Network) in its simplest form will be a mobile app supporting units of exchange called Songcoins (without the codes) and a representation of the number of coins the user holds via purchase or that has earned through investment. The user hears a song or sees a music video that Songcoin is promoting. They like the song and think it's worth investing. They submit a value of Songcoins to the network attached to the work via the app and download or save the song to the cloud so now they own a copy for own use.  70% of the value as Songcoin goes directly to the artist and the balance is shared between the Investors and the Network. Following investments are shared proportionally so it pays fans to be in early in the game.  This is the competitive element.  A user could decide at some point that as his/her investment is doing well and that they will invest more. So given their place in the chain they can go back and invest more which in turn increases the value of their original investment.

The basis of Songcoin is to engage the Fan/User in a different way to an outright sale, to encourage fairness and reward for the artist (Particularly emerging art) which has all but disappeared from the digital music realm.
