Cheap mining motherboard availability is becoming an issue. The ASRock BTC Pro is currently not available at $65. And I believe Intel and mobo manufacturers are soon stopping production on the 1150 socket.
It would be nice if there was a cheap Ryzen mining mobo and CPU to replace it.

I made one (ccminer based). See the boat thread. not released? meanwhile amd have already one, another unfair distribution... I released the amd sgminer many months ago, it works for nvidia as well. Then Wolf0 released a faster version, but for amd only. yeah but i guess cpu suage is at 100% as always with opencl it doesn't start with suprnova pool...the sgminer is not working for me Hi Amph, which Cpu do u have? crappy one g1840 just because you need it for the rig and your rig works fine with this CPU and 6 Gpus? yeah that's not the problem for sure, everyone use the g1840 I never use cheap CPU..never. My miners are either Xeon Hexa Core or i7 Quad. My next baby will be Kaby-Lake and Skylake-EP :-D X299 FTW. Rephrase what I always noticed and see in this forum: Who buys cheap buys twice! Or cry because weak cpu is not capable of running the miner. Pfff tired of this.

It probably is a windows issue. On linux I never had any problem with cheap cpus. And I mined many tens of coins and algos for years. And had a lot of different GPUs, AMD and nvidia. The only time I thought the miner used all the cpu, and thus run slower than it could, I changed the processor only to see the same hashrate.

I didn't said its always like this. But I read it many times and often those cheap CPU are bottleneck.
I also mind in future reselling and possible cpu intensive algos. Sofar I paid 3 GTX1080, X99 EVGa FTWK, Xeon 1650v3 and 32Gb of ram and bit more in only 6month of mining..Thats good I would say. ~3000€

X99+used Xeons are $400 a pop. Then CPU mining earns you $1 per day. In a year it's cheaper than cheap CPUs. Also X79 had amazing resale value. Hopefully similar for X99.

Well sofar I not had any issue with my XEON or X99 and also mining XMR is doing good. I don't just mind mining but anyway..i see many don't think about multipurpose and reusability here.
there is a world next to mining only..

.. no offense but an expensive cpu for mining purposes it's useless. Plenty of experience in matter . If you need to use these machinery for something else ok then, but don't generalize.

In past there were few usable CPU coins for some short time, and they are all dead due assholes with botnets and AWS, those fucks destroy all! You can look at them as cancer no more no less (I mean the ppl)

A good xeon V3/V4 could have earned a lot the first days of zcash mining, when amd/nvidia gpu had lower performance than a high end cpu... (50h/s on a 5960x against 20h/s on the GTX 1080 with the first nicehash cuda miner). You may buy a QS/ES version on ebay for a reasonable price.

Are we talking about CPU mining or the CPU to support GPU mining? Xeon is waaaaay overkill for GPU mining.

I've been running a 5 cards rig with a sempron single core cpu for more than a year without any issues.
Besides utilization issues. XD What do you mean? It's a very anemic processor.

I buy private Nvidia miners. Send information and/or inquiries to my PM box.

In some way both : the point is having a strong processor may help for gpu mining when miners are not optimized like opencl for nvidia, or event the first opencl zcash miners and, by the way you can use the processor for cpu mining. Typically with a many core xeon/ i7 (> 4 core) you may dedicate one or two core for the gpu miners if needed and use the others for cpu mining like xmr for instance. This is the point of view of a "home" miner with one or two rigs, who use his rigs for personal tasks too. For a gpu farm, this is very different I think.

Many GPU miners are GPU miners only and are not interested in spending any more on support HW (ie CPU) than they need to. The disagreement was due to different goals.
