what is a zombie?why u3 to become zombies?how to fix it?
 

The answer to "why" is poor hardward design by Bitmain.  There's something screwy about the usb and power and how it's all done on the circuit board.  I don't know enough to talk details, I'm only repeating the tl;dr of what a hardware guy told me after tearing into one.

If you read this thread you'll find that more people had problems running more than 1 U3 at the same time than could do so successfully.  You may be in the majority where you can only have one U3 running at a time.

It could be luck but I have 3 U3's running right now.  They do zombie out sometimes but are fun to play with.  To be fair it's not that they zombie out a ton, it's just that I don't notice it right away as I don't keep a eye on them as much as some might.

Unplug power and usb on miner, then plug back in.  It should fix it.

If that does not fix it try restarting cgminer (or what ever program your using)

There is not a definite anwser.  Reading i have seen some say using some PSU's instead of those cords can help.   Have seen some claim linux might help.

At end of day though if it was know why it does it or it would be fixed.  It is going to happpen you have to watch the U3's more then a lot of miners.

I use an ATX PSU,and noticed that one miner was never the zombies,and the second periodically became zombies when I was able to connect,I noticed a bad power connector on the second miner and replaced.I think the point is the power of the miner. guys can anyone tell me good pool for mining??what settings frequency / voltage do you recommend for maximum performance u3.thank you.

It looks like I have a lot of HW errors but not too many rejected though...



cgminer options:

--au3-freq 250 --au3-volt 800

But I have as much when running with no option (so default V and frequence)

Each U3 has a 80mm fan blowing on the bottom plate, so temperature shouldn't be an issue... ?

Well from my experience the U3 sometimes just freaks out and gives you HW errors out the wazoo.

I fire one of mine up every now and then, and just recently I had one running fine for a few days at 785/237.5 for about 51GH/s.  It would zombie out, like they do, but otherwise ran ok with HW error about 2%.  Then, for no reason, yesterday it started going crazy on the HW error and no matter what settings I run it gives me 20% HW error.  So I tried another U3 and get the same thing, so I unplugged them and put them away.  When I get bored I'll try plugging one in again and maybe I'll get lucky and it'll run, or maybe not.

Well, I power them off for 15mn at midnight and noon everyday to prevent them going zombie.

We'll see if there's any improvement.

Mine is not horrible I have 3 U3's running.  And it seems once a day I have a zombie.   So it's a pain but as long as I'm home not a huge deal.   

If it was big maching and I was losing ton's of hash, this would be a lot bigger deal.  But with me doing lotto mining for fun it's not really about ROI.

Try including --usb :3 in the batch file for your U2s, then launch cgminer for the U2s.  It should fire up and pick up the 3 U2, but with the --usb :3 it will only look for 3 devices total.  Then start another instance of cgminer for the U3, it will see the U2s as "busy" and won't initialize them, but it will pick up the U3.

U3 works with --usb 1
and the others start just fine in another cgminer

will probably change around the usb devices when i get my 10p hub so it places first och last

Glad it worked for you, I'm doing the same thing with several of my usb sticks and one U3.

But check your syntax, per the readme the command should be

After flash, router will be on 192.168.1.1 ip, you must  assign ip manually , then ssh to it with login root and no password, change ip address: vi /etc/config/network , press I to edit , edit settings to dhcp for example,
config interface 'lan'
        option ifname 'eth0'
        option proto 'dhcp'
them press esc then press : then type wq then enter. reboot router after that open cgminer start script,
vi /etc/rc.local and adjust settings, to see what's happens type screen -r to detach from screen press ctrl+a+d

Interesting you have done what the Antrouter brags about, managing U3's. You even beat the antrouter out .

I don't happen to have a extra tplink to test right now.  How does it seem with zombies?  Is it reduced from windows going to this?

Looks like everything was fine, no zombie seen for 12h, hashrate stable, btw this build also support rockminer and other devices suported by icarus driver
Btw this build supports most of routers on ar71xx plaform, if you want some special router support , ask me in pm, if router had 8Mb flash it can also support full router functionality and webui.

I have my TL-WDR3600 running fine as a router with a lot of functionalities including openvpn and also running either cgminer or bfgminer controlling 2 of myAntminer U3s. I initially used bfgminer 5.2.0 then switched to cgminer 4.9.2, but the Antminer U3s became more unstable and I cannot control the USB interface usage. So I switched back to bfgminer 5.3.0.

It is because it makes a good controller.  Avalon 4.1's and other Avalons have used it.  It runs ddwrt with a special version with cgminer on theirs.

I wish I had one to test this fimware but I currently don't have a tplink nano with the usb.

Ok,  if you can fit this stuff in 4mb flash i will eat my hat. And try to disable 5 ghz interface, it will maybe add more stability to USB interface.

Wooaahh... Hold your horse there!

And you have to eat your hat as I (and a lot of other people) managed to stuff all the necessary OpenWRT packages into 2MB flash of ASUS WL-700GE which has internal storage with IDE interface. So 4MB flash is massive space especially if there are USB ports on the router where you can just plug in external storage.
