I posted numerous post on how to get the fan noise down and looks like no one even read it. Now you guys are trying ridiculous mods to bring down fan speed instead of using common sense!
I asked you a question regarding your "shroud" mod a few pages back, but didn't receive an answer.  I'm trying again.  You achieved a decent noise level reduction by installing the shroud, which judging from your photo also removed the finger guard.  Given that removing the finger guard alone reduces the noise level, did you check how much reduction resulted from each of the two changes?  That would be helpful to know!  Thanks!

the finger guard can be moved away from the fan by 10 to 15 mm.  use a few longer bolts and some spacers

I have concluded that the s-5 can run long term at freq 412  with 2 delta fans at 60db at under 20 bucks.

my error rate is 99.9648 good and 0.0352 bad.

my gh is 1331  my watts are 686 counting the extra fans  this is 0.514 watts per gh

I replaced the fan with below and added a 2nd (push / pull) in the rear. Cools fine and a lot quieter than stock fan configuration. Fan comes with extra long connector for 3 or 4 prong. Plugs right up and reads and controls as 2nd. fan.

would like to report strange behavior.

i have a set up with cold air being taken from outside and vented back out.

seems the miners cant handle being TOO COLD??

i had several s3 and s5 stop working because they were TOO COLD!

the s5 one board reports 0 degrees and does not hash.  restarting it or warming it up fixes the no hashing.  the s3's report a temp of 251 degrees and stop hashing all together until removed from the enclosure and warmed back up.

please advise.

thank you.

cool. I thought that silverstone 140 mmm does not fit and needs to be cut. Did it fit well without any cutting of shroud both in front and back?

251 might be 251-256= -5degrees Celsius Grin

What do you expect when normal operating temps should be between 0 and 35 Celsius!

Don't vent back outside or don't vent all of them back outside and you should be fine. My ambient intake temps are -5 C but I vent into my basement for extra heat and since all the heat doesn't make it to the basement it keeps the miner room just warm enough to keep them running at a stable temp.

If you are keeping the PSU's in the same enclosure (and hopefully giving them a decent load), make sure they just circulate the air rather than vent it, that may sort your problem. I think your PSU's fail before the the rigs shutdown.

No cutting or trimming needed, just plug patch cable in first then put fan on. It is close fit but works fine without trimming. Back no problem at all.

aah.. i guess i didn't read the specs.  -5c degrees makes sense (it's cold right now)

no. the psu's don't fail, the system was set up to GET THAT HEAT OUT, not recirculate it.   Its gotten so cold that i guess i broke the bottom limit.. NEVER expected that.

Sorry for the noob question:

I'm setting up my freshly arrived S5. Power supply is Corsair rm750.

I keep reading everywhere (http://www.enthusiastpc.net/articles/00002/3.aspx) that maximum power output is 75W for 6pin connectors and 150W for 8 pin connectors.
How can the S5 draw ~500W using 4x6PCIe providing 75W each?
And can I power it with 2 cables of the type 1x8PCIe -> 2x6PCIe?

Thanks

PCI-E specs are quite conservative and most miner vendors are pushing the limits here. Up to 200W per PCI-E cable should be ok as long as the PSU and the cables are good quality and the connections are solid - most failures I've seen are caused by poor contact at the PCI-E socket on the miner or at the modular socket on the PSU.

Don't use 8-to-6 splitters, get a 2xMolex to 6-pin PCI-E instead and put that on two separate Molex cables.

Edit: As Biodom mentioned below, you should be ok with your stock cables

RM750 and CX750 both come with two pcie cables that are branched-perfectly fine to use for regular speed at total 590W.
I checked connectors and cables temperature with a laser probe and they never exceeded 45C

yea right dogie you still did not explain how to do it because you really don't know.
He heard a rumour ..... and unless he heard it before you, then it'll void your warranty. BE VERY SCARED! Shocked

Agreed he works for BITMAIN maybe this is there way of making more money. If they tell dogie then dogie tells everyone else then they will see a lot of s5 controller boards lol.

I answer 10 of your questions via PM, yet you're still aggressive towards me on here. You PM me a question over lunch, and after 40 minutes you PM me again flaming me for not answering it already. So no, I will not answer your question.

Sorry, I thought the poster meant some kind of aftermarket contraption to split 8-pin PCI-E into two 6-pin PCI-E. Corrected my post.

Has anyone tried any of the power supplies from Super Flower?

I am looking at the Super Flower SF-750P14XE(HX) Golden Green HX 750W 80 Plus Gold Certified PSU for my S5 for when it one day arrives.

@suchmoon @Biodom
Thanks! I connected the 2 PCIe cables, up to now it seems to work great. I'll do a temperature check tomorrow.

Now I have to make this fanmod before the wife starts to beat me up.... :p

i did not dare to run it at default for more than 12 hr...
Everyone seem to be particularly affected by the S5 default fan sound. You want to stay as far away as possible.
what's your mod?

I'm looking for 2 as well. I emailed Bitmain but they are not giving them out anymore, even though I just bought 2 s5's last week. I was hoping they'd drop the price back down, at $370 it doesn't seem like a good deal.
