Amusingly enough, Seals is also how I found bitcoins and I tried to play on SWC through the summer but the games just dried up so much that there was never really any games to play.

I'm in the same boat.  I used to love seals.  While it wasn't actually how I first found bitcoin, it was one of the first things I did with bitcoin when I found it.  They had an open and accessible platform, no bullshit, no collecting personal data, etc.  Beautiful.

I finally came to grips that seals actually died back in the day and swc is simply not sealwithclubs.  It's a different site with different management and different principles.  The new site is focused on Windows players and we see how that worked out.  As far as I can tell, it's just a long slow deathride here.  It's unfortunate but we may as well come to grips with the reality.  Pretending it's not real doesn't make it any less real.

Don't take this the wrong way dude, but its hard to take your opinion seriously when you have a betcoin referral signature.

I'm not sure if you know this, but if you're on a mac or linux, you can easily set up a free Virtual Machine that runs windows, as well as use teamviewer on your smartphone or tablet to play remotely.

out of all of their problems, the fact that they are focused on windows is not the worst of them.

I'm curious, why are so few players on swc? I would think lots of people would prefer BTC over banking and all the verification and waiting. Or are they playing on other btc site?

Time to read the thread dude.  The main reason why is that their old, cross-platform, working software was abandoned for a buggy, windows-only software.  I think the majority of the old players simply cannot connect or when the do connect there are too many bugs.

Also a decline in players in almost all sites. Swc just haven't been active at all in updating their software or addressing player issues.

It might help you guys get some new players if you could get off of Cardschat's blacklist, like Betcoin just did. It looks like Betcoin is even rooting for you guys, strangely enough.

The bitcoin-only poker site that replaced the revolutionary SealsWithClubs has now made it onto our blacklist after founder Bryan Micon was arrested and charged with operating an unlicensed gambling site. Until it gets resolved, and SWCPoker finds a way to square things with the Nevada Gambling Board, it stays.

The software is really smooth and I like it way better than the old software. I earn around 3,000 krill a week and I haven't disconnected in a month.  I understand people that don't have Windows can be frustrated. For everyone else, you have lightning fast software and more of a variety of games than I ever imagined to play online.

the connection problems are nearly non existant for me and most players on the site, sure disconnects and bugs happen from time to time, but I'd still ratehr play here than a site that steals and cheats their players like Betcoin.

Why doesn't swc lower the rake? Rake should be like 0.1-0.3% tops. It's online, it's a computer dealing cards, no other costs. And being bitcoin, no other taxes either.

With 2% you can play in the casino. And in the casino you don't play 500 hands an hour either.

Or maybe nobody still plays poker these days. And PokerStars 120k players online is BS, or playmoney maybe. Or bots.

Other sites don't have anywhere near 120k players online right?

Bottom line, I'm still looking for a good place to play online. Can't find one. SWC is most promising, but still nowhere near what I'd like.

I don't think he can log on lol because they don't offer a client that he can use.  The old Mavens software seemed fine to me; it's been some time now, but I don't really recall ever having any issues with it.  The new software is okay for me except for that one, massive, unforgivable bug of not producing any meaningful hand histories (that hasn't been fixed in over a year now lol).  On a related note, I do think universal accessibility is a major issue--tbf, it is an issue that a lot of other sites still don't address.  It's just a bummer because the old Seals was pretty universally accessible so we had gotten used to being able to play from a variety of platforms.  Again, not an issue unique to SwC but c'mon, this isn't 1999 anymore and so many of us use stuff other than Windows.  I hear ya on the availability of Virtualbox/VMware/w.e but those are honestly pretty resource-intensive and a bitch to run.  Again, this isn't a problem afflicting only SwC--a lot of poker sites just seem completely oblivious to non-Windows clients.  The main reason we're bitching about it with SwC is because the new management sort of promised us repeatedly more than a year ago that these were coming, and it doesn't seem like they've made even the slightest progress on that front.

Tbh, I would strongly consider the merits of going back to the Mavens software (not sure if the new management has any ownership or control over the custom Mavens that Seals 1.0 ran) because there are quite a few of us non-Windows folks.

Bottom line, I'm still looking for a good place to play online. Can't find one. SWC is most promising, but still nowhere near what I'd like.

Rake isn't the problem at SwC.  There are some costs with running a poker site: high-quality hosting, presumably some staff, churning out some funds to cover the GTDs, etc.  I've made my point about how I believe offering straight rakeback promotions to new players is more attractive than having to earn krill to get rakeback, but I am probably still in the minority on that issue.  (SwC does offer 50% RB for 3-handed or less play in 6max+ ring tables.)

The poker economy isn't really as robust as it was a few years ago, so 2006-level player base can't really be realistically expected from any US-facing site.
I don't like SwC because the management sucks: they don't deliver on any promises, they have poor communication, they don't fix the hand-history issue, and they are sinking financially.  It just seems like they're either apathetic or incompetent.  I'm not sure where you should play poker: Don't play on Betcoin would be my only advice.  You can find some sites with traffic, you can also find some sites with good service.  You probably can't find a site that has both.  My alternative to SwC is nitrogensports.eu poker, which has its own host of issues, but at least the management isn't busto and they respond quickly to players.

nitrogensports seems also empty. the only full poker room is stars.

everything is a problem at swc lol. there are no players.
GTD... they can drop that. they have gtds for advertising i suppose. well, it aint working.
as for server costs staff etc, maybe they cover it with 100 players and 2% rake, but the idea is to get 10000 players, isn't it ? and then 0.2% rake is just fine, just get more people.

And is it banned from US ? With bitcoin I assumed the americans would play. And there are vpns just in case the US goes chinese firewall style Wink

So in this situation the only thing that makes sense is that people don't really play so much online. It's just pokerstars bullshit.

In my opinion, SwC needs to create some buzz.  Something for people to talk about and write about on the internet.  A reason for people to come check SwC out.  And what do they have to offer?
  • anonymity (no ID required, no banks, no credit cards, taxes)
  • access by and access to U.S. players
  • very low rake (and create a promotion of one random rake-free table at all times)
  • the biggest pot in internet poker history would eventually happen there (heads up).  Create a promotion, "winner of current biggest pot" gets 100% rakeback for as long as he holds the title of "winner of the biggest pot"
  • anonymous celebrities playing (anonymously of course!) at SwC

Last time I logged in was last time they had software for a system that I have access to.  I think it was in December of 2014, IIRC.  You can say the new software is "more stable".  But I wouldn't know because I've never been able to get it to work at all.  I tried it with WINE and they laughed at me (upthread).

Ok, I'd rather play at swc too, but they stil (after 1.5 years) haven't come up with any software that I can run.
