i keep getting "invalid password" wen trying to change the default one.

Does anyone know why or if there are certain requirements for the password?

i gave up trying to change it.  just use the given one.  the worst that someone can do is "hack" into your miner.

You guys should really not even try powering up one of these beasts without opening up the box and reseating all cards and connectors. Some things are just bound to shake loose after traveling halfway around the world, no matter how great the QC or packing. Applying power to a system with loose boards and/or cables can cause shorts that may blow out cards or the power supply. You should also tighten up all screws and make sure loose hardware hasn't fallen onto (or into) any electronics. The S1 is/was so successful powering up because of its simplicity, everything is screwed together except for three small ribbon cables.

Design flaw. There should be a bracket holding the boards in place, especially for something you're going to ship by design.

Nevertheless what you say is true.

Multiple design flaws and seemingly non-existent QC. Pretty sketchy/clownish effort overall (did you see the 'machining' of the heat sinks!?). Bitmain isn't alone: the dragon miner I opened yesterday had its own share of ridiculous issues.

tbh, i'm not too worried about it.  it's their first go around at doing a design like this and shipping it halfway around the globe.  A bit of tweaking here and there I don't mind.  This isn't something that will really need to be around for more than several months.

I'm trying to figure out why my display is dead.  I've found the file that's created to display (/tmp/lcd.data)

Mine contains the:

Code:
AntMiner S2
192.168.0.99
1015.62 GH/s
Max 55

that's supposed to be displayed on the screen.  Any ideas what throws it up on the screen?
104  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 04, 2014, 02:01:55 AM
I got my S2 today.

However, the display does not light up.  Although the fans do turn on and I can see red lights inside it.

Also, the Ethernet is not detected by my router.

So the consensus is that I should open it up and see if anything needs to be reseated?  Will this void the warranty?

Thanks!
Volgon

Check that all cards and cables are seated properly.
105  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 03, 2014, 11:28:19 PM
Well, mine won't connect at 192.168.1.99, and according to an IP scan there's nothing from 1.1 to 2.254
My laptop detects the board and the lights on the BBB work, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware error.
Did anyone else get a unit with a different IP?

"My laptop detects the board"

What do you mean by that?

Check all internal connections.  I had loose boards, the cable to the display was disconnected, and the internal ethernet cable was not completely seated to the panel jack.

Has anyone been able to get these to work on a network that's other than 192.168.1.*
107  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 03, 2014, 10:22:02 PM

....  That is to say is there a higher option setting that you can just remove the ###?

Yes... but without:

1 - bigger psu
2 - bigger heatsinks or significantly cooled ambient air

I would not even consider this.

Is there any CE certificate link for Antminer S2? It may be very badly needed in some EU regimes.

Not that I've seen.

What you mean the s2 have overclokcing settings?

Same file exists as in S1
110  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 03, 2014, 09:50:31 PM
Hmmm, Well I found the overclocking settings.

Heh.. I wouldn't try without making sure you got more headroom on your PSU.  I'm thinking a 2KW server power supply. Smiley
and make sure you got plenty of cool ambient air going in.. cause it's going to be toasty coming out..

Looks like they are running them at 196.
111  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 03, 2014, 09:44:09 PM

Did either of you guys get the display working?

Mine is dead :/

Yeah, mine worked after I reseated the cpu board.

Well.. mine is mining.. just no display... I'd assume that if the cpu board is not seated, I wouldn't get any hashing at all..
112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 03, 2014, 09:40:41 PM
well.. with the 192.168.1.1 line in /etc/init.d/cgminer.sh fixed
doing a:

/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh start

gets me mining...

still no display tho..  I'm thinking one of the other scripts needs to run to update the display..

thanks a bunch.  that got my first one hashing away.  that change plus reseating all boards and cables is prolly required for most to get them running.

thanks! editing that script did it for me... it seems to overwrite it on every reboot though   Undecided i'll have to look for where thats happening.

ssh login is root/admin

/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh is hardcoded to ping 192.168.1.1 for some reason.  I changed that to my gateway ip.

machine starts to mine for a minute, then shuts down and starts beeping

continuing surgery...
115  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 03, 2014, 08:33:56 PM
How do you get it to start mining? I had to make sure all the cards were plugged in and then it would but. But now I've set up the network, can access the administration page, and entered in all my information, but it doesn't want to start?

same here..
116  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 03, 2014, 08:16:31 PM
i am certainly not as impressed as giga with my first shipment.  none of the 6 hashed out of the box and only 1 could i even connect to the mgmt interface.  prolly gonna be a long night of troubleshooting.  each one of my 50+ S1's hashed out of the box - bring back the S1's...........

Just opened up mine.... nearly every board inside had been knocked off the motherboard pci connectors and had come out of the slide-in slots..

Cannot open a webpage at 192.168.1.99..

continuing surgery..

what is default IP as shipped?
