If you are just planning to buy BTC Miner then the newest model from Bitmain is more powerful but the problem is it's too expensive.

With your current budget, I think what you can only buy are 2nd hand s17 units but try to contact @offordscott he might be able to find you a better unit with your budget.

Here is the contact info: https://offordscott.t.me/

also he needs 240volts for any asic that is not modded the s17 needs 240 volts

the s19 needs 240 volts.

my thread has modded power and can use 120 volts.

if I use an s19 pro 100th th it is under 800 usd and around  33th that is $1.65 a day earnings at viabtc.

if he has 240 volts he can get an s17 cheaper set it to low and do 42th

here is a good seller for the s17

104  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which miner? on: May 14, 2024, 04:29:20 PM
I have the possibility of a friend hosting a miner for me in a spare room at his business without being charged for electricity. Could someone recommend a relatively cheap (<=$1500) but powerful miner that would suit this situation. Obviously an emphasis on higher hashrate over efficiency. Thanks in advance.

if you are in the usa I have these

106  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: May 14, 2024, 03:11:17 AM
The USA claims mixers are used by terrorist groups to help fund terrorism.

As I wrote a few posts ago, most criminals are amateurs who have zero understanding of how a mixer works. Or they do have an inkling of understanding about Bitcoin's anonymity and are using Monero because of that. But they are definitely not using a bitcoin mixer in most cases, either because they don't understand the concept of privacy or because they know Bitcoin is fundamentally not anonymous.

You only have a small percentage of the most skilled cybercriminals or terrorists using a bitcoin mixer in any case.

So much of what Congress and executive branches are saying is waffle, but they don't care because, you know, eroding freedoms is more important! (how ironic that is considering freedom is supposed to be a cornerstone here.)

The USA hit a major turning point with the 911 attacks.

They decided to use it as the reason for more security and stricter rules.

Basically one could argue those terrorist won as they turned the government on to all its citizens.

We are subject to a lot of endless financial rules. blah blah blah

109  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: My ASIC soundproof enclosure on: May 13, 2024, 11:11:21 PM
Hey guys.
I don't know if you remember me with my problems with my S9 K/SE.
Yeah, I know it's not really a miner really worth having, but this was a learning experience. I'm okay with all the trouble I went through to know what it really takes to have an ASIC miner in the house.

So I want to share with anyone interested in building an enclosure inside the house and my process. It took a lot of trial-and-error, revisions and tweaks to get it to where I'm satisfied. There was a time I almost abandoned the entire project and cut my losses.

The past few months I have been making improvements to my enclosure since my first attempt a year ago, finally making an effective soundproofing enclosure.

Last year, my first attempt, if I remember correctly, the sound dampening was about -15dB, which was really impressive with only using one layer of plywood, acoustical foam, cardboard and polyethylene foam.
It kinda worked, but you can still hear the whining of the fans especially when it got hot. One design the unit overheated cause of poor airflow. A lot was left to be desired.

I had some help on design with looking up soundproof boxes.
Problems I kept running in to was space, noise and airflow.

Designs that typically take -20dB off,  take up a lot of space and not pretty to look at. Not ideal if you have other people living with you.
For my tight space, I barely had enough room to add much material. Not the most optimal situation. The reason I chose this small space, is cause I wanted a place that was out of sight out of mind.

I didn't want a big, ugly box with ducts and cords in the middle of some room. So I built an in wall enclosure in the laundry room. There was a tall cabinet that had a lot of unused headspace.
I cut a large panel to be the hatch opening.
The heat exhausts to the inside of the house, cause I heard that heating your house with a miner sounded like a novel idea. Though unfortunately, with my set up, it really doesn't put out that much heat. Cause I only power one hashboard. That's all I can afford with my really high kw/h rate.

Regardless, with the S9 K/SE with a noise rating of 85dB. I measured 89dB with my SPL meter next to the fans.
With my current design, I'm really impressed with the effectiveness of the soundproofing. Even with the fans at 100% I can barely hear the whining of the machine even standing next to the enclosure walls.
Standing next to the exhaust vent in the house all I hear is the air rushing out with the inline fans at full power. And not getting complaints of noise.

Here is a diagram of a layout that is the current one I'm using now. I didn't provide any dimensions,  I'm leaving that up for interpretation, but the design should work all the same.

Here are actual photos of what it looks like

I remember this design.

you should put an m10 in there. I think I got one laying around are you usa based?

For the grower experts among us:

I need a little help.
Yellowing leaves? What am I doing wrong?

Soil is 6.5 PH.

Also the right one seems to be flowering already? Since they are both "mystery strains", I guess this one is autoflower?
yellow could be too much nitrogen

add some lime
111  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitAxe $150 solo miner.... on: May 13, 2024, 06:56:47 PM
And all of us are lucky that Avalon / Canaan is shipping slowly if they were fast it would kill off all of the units above.

That’s a good point! You have to wonder why they are half-assing the sales. Is production just not ready yet? Is this a temporary, loss-leader product? Maybe a limited supply of chips? I guess we’ll find out. Margins have got to be razor thin with 10 chips in there.

I can assure you that none of the projects you listed are getting “killed off”. More like “super motivated” now.

I'm thinking it's more of a side project for them. They put together something neat and put it out there. If it sold great, if it didn't sell also great not a lot of time & money invested.
Remember they are a public company so they have to have some sort of justifiable reason for most expenditures.

They can also use it to gauge the potential sales for other projects. If there was not a demand they could say no more small miners. Now they know they can sell these, will they now start looking at some things that are a bit more powerful but still quiet and low power.

-Dave

yeah a 400-600-800 watt model doing 25 watts a th would be viable and pretty much have a strong hold on low power gear

I have played around with a lot of low power gear.

Since the first usb sticks of friedcat  the nano 3 is hands down better  at bang for the buck than anything on the market at this time.

114  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitAxe $150 solo miner.... on: May 13, 2024, 12:39:57 PM
Only selling the Avalon Nano 3 on a crowdfunding website is bullshit. I’m still waiting for my “February Delivery” unit to ship btw.

Full Disclosure: I’m the Bitaxe project instigator.

I do agree the delivery of nano 3 was slow as shit. But 4tb vs .5tb and 150 usd vs 250-299 usd it is not close.

Their product
fucked you
fucked sidehack
fucked Apollo II

btw it also hurt my sales of modded 1 board  s19's with a riff on the BitChimney Space heater

Full disclosure I cancelled my thread that was going to do a comparison of gear above .

And all of us are lucky that Avalon / Canaan is shipping slowly if they were fast it would kill off all of the units above.

Their price point crushes all of the above small miners.

Edit at the moment my asic sales are very depressed. I no longer mine 210kwatts of gear.

All I got going for me are gpu sales on ebay which are good for the

nvidia rtx a4000 , a4500 , a5000

Avalon really hurt small watt low power builders with the nano3

Has this been done?
117  Economy / Economics / Re: A lot wealthy people not smart they just use debt on: May 12, 2024, 11:35:41 PM
Wealthy people love debt. Unlike the poor people who just want to get out of debt as fast as possible, the wealthy are looking for more ways to increase their debt. In school I was taught that there are two types of debt the good debt and the bad debts.

Wealthy people are in the good type debt. Good debt is money borrowed to invest in a business like real estate , restaurants, or property whose value will bring in more money than the debt. However bad debt is there borrowed to buy liabilities. This is where the wealthy are smart. Their debts are the good kind of debt that increases their wealth despite being in debts.

As my economics professor would say, Using someone else's money (debt) to increase your own wealth is a skill the wealthy have mastered.

Robert Kiyosaki was a US citizen. I know he talked about how he used debt to become rich because he used his debts to purchase assets and not liabilities. The reason why I had to mention the country where this man comes from is because if he had come from another country, maybe an underdeveloped country, he probably would not have archived what he did archive with his debts.

Bro, things work differently around the world. The traditions, laws, and opportunities in the east may not be the same in the west and the same in the north, etc.The principle of one man cannot work for everyone. Debt is not favorable for everyone.

Debts (loaned money) are also used for other important stuffs, but apart from assets, there are other life issues that make people take out loans, which is very important stuff for them too.

It's a fact that you can actually take a loan to make an investment or purchase an asset but still don't get the expected returns due to the circumstances of the bad investment. For example, people are advised not to take out loans and invest in Bitcoin.

I have used credit properly since 1986.

I have spent over 1,000,000 on credit cards I have paid under 100 or 200 usd in fees to do that. I have received over 25,000 in rebates.

I am not rich but proper use of credit has allowed me to live better for over 30 years.
This kind of statement made me realize since 2019 that what most people say about credit cards are not real. they say you will have a huge debt if ever you get a credit card, or using credit card will only make your life worse.

At first I think the same way as this was the information planted in my mind, until I start my own research and see a lot of positive statements from credit card users who knows how to maximize the benefits of their card just like yours.

Since then, I am using my credit card and make use of the benefits they have. I use it everywhere, in my daily life and paying no additional fees since then. For annual fees, I can at least manage to waive it and continue to have a good credit score since then.

when I use a credit card i have the money to for it. I use the card to get say a 2% rebate.

So if I buy a refrigerator at best buy I get 5% rebate and an extra year of warranty at no cost if I use the best buy card.

so  $1000 refrigerator means a return of $50 . jut pay in about 40 days.

I let those rebates stack for a year or so then grab a gpu if gpu mining is hot.

I do this shit endlessly. Now that mining sucks I am selling off paid for older gear on ebay.

Its profit. I stack btc and some alts and some cash.

The key is do not get over extended on your credit.

There is an interesting thing that happened 23 days ago. Guys, as you know, when someone pays enormously high fees, I mean some Bitcoins, they usually contact the miner who included this transaction in their block and ask them for refunds. The fee that many miners paid in this block are definitely out of this world, one miner paid up to 6.72 BTC, there are many others who paid up to a Bitcoin or more. As I understood, they wanted their transaction to be ranked top in halving block, so that's why paid such a high transaction fees but on another hand, I wonder, did they contact ViaBTC and asked for a refund? Did they claim that it was a mistake to pay such a high transaction fees? I ask this because in past people have made mistake, contacted miner and got refund. I really wonder if ordinals spammers did something like that.

it was intentional as it was the ˝ ing block. So that will not be getting refunded.
119  Economy / Economics / Re: The collapse of central banks...Inevitable? on: May 12, 2024, 10:36:05 PM

The world often behaves in strange and mysterious ways. Even though the global economy is collapsing, central banks aren't showing signs of fragility. They will remain in power as long as governments support them. And people can't do anything about it.

Bitcoin was once thought to be Fiat's replacement. But so far, it has failed. Especially when many consider it to be a store of value than a currency. Using BTC on top of Fiat is only a pipe dream. At least, we have a choice. As long as BTC remains decentralized, there should be nothing to worry about. Who knows what measures central banks will take to protect the economy in the future?  Undecided

Was it? I did a quick check and couldn't find the word "replace" in the Nakamoto white paper. I bring this up because I think this is one of these catchphrases that some people (or many) quickly fell for and propagated it themselves. If you asked some people what they know about Bitcoin, this is probably one of the most provided answers while they couldn't explain the technology in any further detail let alone provide the core principles that Bitcoin is based on.

If anything, Bitcoin drove the price up for the legacy system to remain shitty. Remember how long it took for fiat transactions to be settled between banks? No need to discuss intercontinental transfers... Only after Bitcoin emerged, they began introducing 24h guaranteed settlements, then upgraded to instant settlements within the same currency unions.

Now they are embracing Bitcoin because the risk is high to not do it. One bank did the first step, others followed. First they didn't want to be the fool who has been the first, now they don't want to be the fool who missed the boat completely.

A lot of things are happening and this idea that Bitcoin will replace all cash in the world is nonsense to begin with. Bitcoin can become a decentralized geopolitical financial tool in a very complex world and countries might be competing for domination of this geopolitical financial tool. But they also want a tool where they can plan or with some certainty anticipate the effects of their financial political actions. Giving up national fiat currency means that the player either probably has sufficient power over Bitcoin, but that would imply other countries wouldn't be well advised to give up theirs.

It is hard to imagine that Bitcoin will be so uncontestedly powerful as a financial system that countries start rushing one after another into it, abandoning their currencies and make Bitcoin the one and only currency.

But it's an interesting idea to think about and it is not like I would say no per se because I don't know. But saying that "Bitcoin was once thought to be Fiat's replacement" is something that some people might have thought without understanding Bitcoin, and I doubt that it was the opinion of the majority of Bitcoiners, and I doubt that Satoshi thought he is about to kill Fiat once and forever. But he saw the need for an alternative system that can exist outside of the Fiat realm.

Bitcoin is the founding reason for zelle.

zelle is pretty much perfect for sending money instantly at no cost. it has limits but it is so easy to send 1000 bank to bank in the US using it and I am pretty sure it came into existence to fight btc and crypto in general.
120  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: s19 k pro stopped working on: May 12, 2024, 10:30:04 PM
you could open it and pull two boards fully out.

test one board

if it works one of the other two boards may be shorted.

if it does not work you may be testing the shorted board.

so pull that one board and test one of the other two 2️⃣

you end up testing all three boards one at a time.

if it never works it is likely the psu is dead. ☠️
