1001  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Protect your future GPU mining earnings with CoinLab's 95% PPS Pool on: August 15, 2012, 01:28:51 AM

So is the rate at $5.10 for PPS the minimum you will make at a specific difficulty per 1Gh/s/day? But possibly more? How is 'more' calculated? how much is 'more'? I would assume it is based on how much a company is willing to pay for the service but I could be wrong.

$5.10 was the expected dollar value of 95%PPS a couple days ago (using price of $11.7 and difficulty 2190865.9701).  With that price and difficulty, you would earn at least $5.10 if we used your computer for scientific compute work.

We are still in the sales process so it is too early to discuss specifics: all we can promise right now is that you will never earn less than you would from mining Bitcoins when we use your computer for other compute work (1+ months away).  We will have a period of less-lucrative HPC testing before we can actually generate revenue from it, and this 'test time' will be coming out of our own pocket.  We may give a bonus to users who help us test, but we don't want to obligate ourselves to do so at this time.

Once we are making money, we plan to pass some of this revenue down to the miners.  But seeing as we're still learning how big the pie will be, we can't say how we'll slice it yet. It will be "more" though  Wink.

PS: Looks like you quoted the wrong post.

That makes sense. Thanks for the info. And yeah it looks like I quoted the wrong post, I really do not like the way this forum works...

If you earn more than $600 worth of BTC in one calendar year and are in the US, we may need to send you a form 1099 to report our payments to you to the IRS (we will need your name, address, and US tax id). Miners in this group also get the option of  receiving US dollar payouts, or a mixture of USD and BTC (you can take your electricity costs in USD and keep your profits in BTC).

Does that mean this is only available to those in the U.S.?

We’re evaluating a means of waiving this requirement, so we’ll keep you posted.

Waiving that income would be reported or waiving the requirement for a U.S. tax id?

Our pool is available internationally, excluding countries and persons on the OFAC list.  You can find these lists here:
http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/SDN-List/Pages/default.aspx

We're evaluating a means of waiving the reporting requirement altogether.  We're still researching but it appears we may not have to 1099 foreigners.

So is the rate at $5.10 for PPS the minimum you will make at a specific difficulty per 1Gh/s/day? But possibly more? How is 'more' calculated? how much is 'more'? I would assume it is based on how much a company is willing to pay for the service but I could be wrong.

Under the 'Account Details' page, is it just me or does the table that has our current BTC and NMC amounts change from time to time? It seems like every other time I load the page they are flip-flopped, one time BTC will be on top and the next NMC will be on top.

Its not a big deal but like today I looked and thought I had 11BTC already when in reality I was looking at 11NMC and only have 6BTC.

WinXP Pro with Firefox 14 here, btw.

The current expected earnings from a 1GH/s for 24 hours is $5.37 (using price of $11.7 and difficulty 2190865.9701).

Based on my calculations, $5.37 is what I can mine with 1Gh/s in 24 hours at current difficulty and $11.7 price. is that what your saying here or is that what we could earn with the 95%? 95% of $5.37 is $5.10. Just trying to understand the 95% PPS here.

This seems like an interesting thread.

I first heard about Bitcoin about a year ago but I didnt read into it much and forgot about it until about a month ago when I stumbled on it again. I wish I would have read more the first time around...

Yeah? I I didnt think you could swap them powered on. Thanks for the tip!!
1008  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: DFI wont POST with 5770 or 5850 on: August 07, 2012, 08:23:10 PM
I actually had 2 of these boards (one would not power on so I got a used one to replace it for cheap). I tried using a modified BIOS but after what looked like a successful flash it would not display anything. So I swapped out BIOS chips from the other board I had, which happened to have a newer version on it and now it works! SmileySmiley

The only card I tried that worked was the 4850. I was thinking it was an issue with pcie1.0 vs 2.0 but the 4850 is 2.0 just like the other cards.

I'll try and find an updated BIOS, thanks.
1010  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / DFI wont POST with 5770 or 5850 on: August 04, 2012, 10:55:34 AM
Ive got an old DFI Lanparty CFX3200 motherboard and I thought I would try to mine with it since it has 2 x16 slots and 2 x1 slots. When I put either a 5770 or a 5850 in it will not even POST however with a 4850 it boots fine.

Anyone have any clues to why this is?

EDIT: both cards will boot in another system with no issues.

1011  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: So, did I miss the bus? on: August 03, 2012, 03:22:41 PM
I threw some money out and bought a handful of bitcoins and decided to mine until its not profitable. Maybe if Im lucky ASIC wont be as big as they claim, at least not yet.  Cool
1012  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: difference in shares among same cards on: July 31, 2012, 08:32:43 PM
I've had that happen before.  It could be a disconnect that causes the share count to reset to zero on one card.  Try lower the clocks a bit and give it another 24 hours and see if it changes.

I thought about doing that, Im just not sure how to go about it in BAMT. I'll have to play around with it I guess.
1013  Bitcoin / Mining support / difference in shares among same cards on: July 31, 2012, 11:45:40 AM
Ive got 3 5850's in one rig all mining away on the same pool, the machine is running BAMT if that makes a difference. I just checked the status page and it shows one card has over 15000 shares accepted while the other two cards only have in the area of 2000. Settings are all the same and the clocks are within 50mhz. Whats causing this difference? Should I be worried?
1014  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: So, did I miss the bus? on: July 24, 2012, 01:25:14 AM
Well I got my two "new" 5850's today, makinga total of 3 hashing right now for just over 1GH/s. I just re-purposed my HTPC/file server that never was used. Total cost in it is about $500 (3x 5850's, pcie cables and a bigger psu)

We will see what happens I guess...
1015  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / So, did I miss the bus? on: July 23, 2012, 04:45:36 PM
I just recently re-discovered bitcoins. I heard about them about a year ago but never really looked into it. (really wish I would have) Looking at things now, GPU mining is nearly pointless and Ive noticed a lot of FPGA manufacturers are stopping production because of the possibility of ASIC. It looks like the days of affordable mining operations are over.

Being a newcomer, is there any point in trying to join in or did I miss my chance?

I currently have a 4850 and a 5850 running which has given me a total of about 2.5BTC...
1016  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: low shares accepted on: July 23, 2012, 10:54:35 AM
Yeah, the 4850 just pays for itself, but I dont care, I just want to play around with it for now...

The heatsinks and all are warm on it so I assume its under load. The cpu is not mining. I also noticed that on BAMT it will show 0 or only a few invalid shares but on my pool, bitclockers it shows like 50%! I also noticed that for some reason the web dashboard on BAMT will reset the share count back to 0 for the 4850 which might be the reason for the low count. When I started typing this it was at 6 and now its at 0...

Last night I reduced the overclock to the stock settings but that didnt seem to help. Today Im going to shutdown the 4850 just to make sure its not a problem with both cards.
1017  Bitcoin / Mining support / low shares accepted on: July 22, 2012, 07:20:02 PM
Im new to mining bitcoins and have recently noticed something with my setup. I have a 4850 and a 5850 running on the same motherboard. The 5850 is plugged into the pcie slot and the 4850 is using a 1x to 16x cable, running BAMT. I noticed today that the 5850 had 4000 or so accepted shares and the 4850 had 12 with 0 invalids. I know there is a speed difference between the two cards but it cant be that much different... The 4850 gets about 90MH/s while the 5850 is getting about 375MH/s. The load on both cards is 98%+ and the temps are just shy of 70c.

I restarted the machine a few times but it doesnt seem to help, any ideas?

I have 100USD in Dwolla, looking to trade for 100USD in MtGox.

I realize I have a low post count and all so Im willing to send first.

Traded  Grin Very easy. Only took about 2 minutes to complete the trade. +1 to AmDD

Agreed! Thank you very much!! +1 tarrant_01

1020  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How come the Mining hardware comparison page is not updated recently? on: July 18, 2012, 02:26:31 PM
It is a wiki, updated by the community (much like this forum). Please contribute to keep the list updated. Log in, and edit the information if you know of errors, or have results to contribute.

I wish they would of added 7950 and other results. It took me forever to find them

"They" is "us".  It's a wiki so feel free to add/change any information there.

Exactly. I have added my cards recently.
