1024  Economy / Speculation / Re: I do believe bitcoin price will boom when we switch from GPU to ASIC mining on: October 20, 2012, 05:48:03 AM
When we use GPU, money from miners go to AMD's hand and doesn't comeback. When we use ASIC, the asic companies will use a portion of that money to promote their business, attract more users & miners come to bitcoin economy. This causes a positive feedback loop and bitcoin economy will boom. Right now, butterflylabs are promoting its business using google ads.

no, this won't affect the price
1025  Economy / Speculation / Re: Downward trend imminent on: October 18, 2012, 04:05:36 PM
There has certainly been a slight downtrend since early in the month but it looks like it might have levelled off a bit. The next couple of weeks will be telling, I think.

"Couple of weeks"? I can't believe there will be that long stable periods in the near future.. This is Bitcoin, after all! :-)
The only time I remember any stability (pricewise) at all was when bitcoinica and then later maybe pirate stabilized the price..

    *waiting for the weekend*

    Ente

+1. There will be an end of the stability quite soon.
1026  Economy / Speculation / Re: #1 most popular Bitcoin Price Forecasts (subscribe here: bitcoinbullbear.com) on: October 16, 2012, 08:50:08 PM
Maybe it alerted the subscribers of a freaking massive move... sideways. Cheesy
That's what I'm thinking.  Like a change-up pitch in baseball, the alert said to make the big move...tomorrow  Cheesy

    Exciting times...

    indeed, very exciting..

Don't forget to vote on the future price direction here.
1027  Economy / Speculation / Re: Downward trend imminent on: October 16, 2012, 07:52:57 PM
Overall, all those nuances about block halving, difficulty changes, mining issues, etc. are already all prices into the charts. It is far easier to predict price movements based on chart patterns and indicators than speculating for years about all those fuzzy factors.
No they're not, due to asymetric information and investors driven mainly by emotions. Also vast majority of investors don't run around with a calculator and market analysis formulas. Chart patterns and indicators are mostly a combination of bullshit and crowd psychology. Both of which are unrelieble as fuck. Long story short, the perfect market is a myth, because market is a sum of investors' actions. Investors are humans and humans are far from perfect.

You just made the case why charts are the key to market prediction. Human herding.

And thanks for your very polite attitude.
1028  Economy / Speculation / Re: Downward trend imminent on: October 16, 2012, 06:21:55 AM
reward halving to 25@ block 210,000. going to be a lot less coins available.  I can see us hitting $20 soon.

so we will produce 3600 less coins per day, which is like 10% of the daily volume just on mtgox, not to mention all the volume combined elsewhere, so it's not going to have any major effect on the price. At most we will go up 10% from whatever stable price the market will settle at.

but you do see value increasing as opposed to the speculation of the OP.  If more miners decide to hold instead of pump and dump, and BTC demand increases during the reward half, there could be a drastic increase in value.  we shall see. for now i will remain a long term bull.

The big hashers will be wanting to sell once ASIC comes online to recover outlay costs I would think. It's going to be interesting. Imagine you laid out 30k+ for a BFL rig only to have the difficulty go vertical, the block reward halve, and the price go down. If you could manipulate the market it would be crafty/evil to dump at the halving. A lot of people would buy because "omg less coins are being made" and miners would be pressed to get what they could.

Overall, all those nuances about block halving, difficulty changes, mining issues, etc. are already all prices into the charts. It is far easier to predict price movements based on chart patterns and indicators than speculating for years about all those fuzzy factors.
1029  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 15, 2012, 03:44:30 PM
i am sensing some boredom among bitcoin users right now.
almost like the seasonal shift is slowly taking place, day by day.
i really expect a slow decline over the next few months to under 10.

towards the end of declines there is always a quite rapid and sharp sell off. I would not be surprised if it happened again this year
1030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: October 14, 2012, 02:23:52 PM
Most of the developers - myself included - have an income unrelated to Bitcoin. Though few would refuse a donation for our work, I myself never expected any payment for it. I work on what I like to, and if that benefits the community, so much the better.

Gavin however has worked on Bitcoin full-time since a long time, without any other income, and at least in my opinion he does a great job. Certainly it shouldn't be this foundation's only purpose, but I see no harm in making sure he can keep working on this project.

1031  Economy / Speculation / Re: The RAPTURE is coming! on: October 13, 2012, 01:48:48 PM
No, seriously guys, the price is not dropping.
    What gives?
Are we now just a collection of androgynous bullbear stability freaks?
If the price does not destabilize soon i will have to speculate that it will stay around $11 for the next two to three months.. and that kind of speculation makes me sad.  Cry

Contraction in price leads to expansion in price. The longer and tighter BTC consolidates at $12, the bigger the next directional move will be.

I've just been on the phone with Nafario for a good half hour and even tho someone stated that Nafario had used users money to pay recent GLBSE legal fees is untrue.  He hasn't even paid his solicitor a penny yet.

Nefario in my p.o.v has a great character and does everything to get this solved in the best way. I don't think this is a guy that would ever run with someone else's money.

    hazek, you're really annoying me.

First, you edited my OP and broke all of the links changing .org to .com.
Then you sent me a PM asking if it would be ok to move this thread to Service Discussion.  WTF?  If discussion of the Foundation isn't a good topic for the main Discussion forum what is?

Now you spout off about 'Gavin this, Gavin that.'

It isn't easy to piss me off, but, I'm sorry, you're really pissing me off. Bounties?  Really?  Point me to a successful security-critical open source project where bounties pay the rent.

I haven't tried kickstarter-like fundraising?  http://blockchain.info/address/17XvU95PkpDqXAr8ieNpYzSdRDRJL55UQ8  is the address for the Bitcoin Testing Project, which has received a grand total of 72 BTC, which isn't nearly enough to pay a QA grunt, let alone a QA lead.

You say "why change, Bitcoin has been working great for me!"

It hasn't been working great for me; I'm frustrated by the lack of resources and all of the distractions I have to deal with as the unelected, un-asked-for de-facto leader of this amazing experiment. I'm excited about the Foundation, because it is bringing together dedicated, effective people who all want Bitcoin to succeed.

    Gavin
Keep moving forward. You are doing a fantastic job. Don't get sidetracked by a few  critics. Most people here support you and even if not , they can create their own foundation or club.

I like the foundation idea overall.

Just one question: What are the benefits and rights for an individual member? I can not afford a business membership but consider a individual membership. But before doing that I need to know what the benefits are.

    thanks for anwering
