1041  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 investment strategies to make Bitcoin less stressful on: January 31, 2021, 10:22:53 PM
Buy at least a few other asset classes to hedge your bets e.g. shares, bonds, commodities, property....... vintage wine, fine art etc  Cheesy

Are bonds an investment or a way to keep your money safe from inflation? They don't appreciate in value much.

Shares as a hedge? Like when you buy Gamestop at the right time? Cheesy

For me the best way to be cool about Bitcoin is holding long enough. When you can say you had it for 3 years or more, you learn not to care about FUD or flash crashes. You'll know you can't lose on this bet.
1042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why would you use USDCoin on coinbase instead of USDollar when selling BTCtoUSD on: January 31, 2021, 10:13:36 PM
Also some traders would have to pay tax converting to USD. Switching from an altcoin to a stablecoin allows them to exit position without taking profit.

These coins are also useful for people who live in countries where crypto-fiat exchange is forbidden or restricted by the government. They can trade to a fiat equivalent without using fiat.

1043  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the most discreet way to hide your crypto from thieves? on: January 31, 2021, 08:36:35 PM
Thanks to Bitcoin's portability, one can easily store thousands of dollars (USD) worth of Bitcoin in even the smallest places you could ever imagine. What comes to my mind is storing Bitcoin on a microSD card, put it on a small "Ziploc" bag, and tape it underneath a table. But I think this could by discovered by a smart thief.

Depends on what kind of thief you're afraid of. The one that goes inside for a few minutes when you cut grass in the garden, or the one who watches your house for days until you finally go abroad or to another town for a day and then goes in and spends hours searching the house.
A card under the table will survive the first but not the second type. When they know they have time they'll break everything and check every drawer.

Quote
I've heard about "nanoSD cards" from Huawei which are even smaller than traditional microSD cards. But not many devices support this.

It's not a problem. You buy a card reader that connects to USB port. You only need 1 to be able to read the card with any device.
1044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When Do You Take Profit From Your Altcoin Bags? on: January 31, 2021, 07:59:17 PM
I prefer to exchange for ETH, if I see the price of BTC going up, ETH must go up.  As we know in December 2020, ETH follows BTC price movements and it's possible that ETH will continue to increase.  2021 be a boon for all of us in the crypto world.

I feel the same and ETH is the main altcoin that I'm holding. I don't care about all those losing projects because I feel like they'll all die eventually.

Some people think the altcoin marke will continue to grow but it won't. 90% of altcoins will die because 90% altcoins have no use and no purpose. If some of them hit mainstream they're going to take all the use cases with them. The rest will remain a speculation or disappear and that won't be coins that are big or small now but those that have utility and are popular.
1045  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bounty hunters are getting axed harder on: January 31, 2021, 07:14:03 PM
That explains what bounty hunting really is, if it's a stable way of making money it should be called something else not bounty hunting, the word hunting means you have to thrive to kill a game or hit some valuable assets in the ground, it's never going to be a straight road judging from the name
That's right, it's a struggle. Many hunters find it  thrilling to do a job not knowing how much they'll get in the end. It can be only a few dollars but it can be much more if the coin pumps.

I feel like OP wants his job to come with certain status and prestige and instead he's ridiculed and laughed at. Maybe because many bounty hunters join every single project without knowing anything about it?
1046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Japan Support XRP on: January 31, 2021, 07:06:27 PM
Quote
"XRP has a strong global fanbase, and a lot of people see this lawsuit as an attack on virtual currencies in general"

So this guy invests in something not because it has a use or a groundbreaking technology but because he believes in the dedication of fanboys, who recently became bagholders.

That's a great strategy! Cheesy

In all seriousness, I don't see why anybody would listen to this guy.
1047  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin inheritance on: January 30, 2021, 06:52:47 PM
It's really not a problem if you have normal relations with your family.

My closest family knows that I own bitcoins and how to access my wallets in case I got sick or died. I don't have to hide it from them because I trust them and they never stole from me. Why would they steal if they can simlply ask.

Many people will never need to inherit bitcoins because they are unregistered. When I die they can take my wallet and spend at will without getting a lawyer and telling the government that now my bitcoins belong to them.
1048  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Bitcoin is like planting trees on: January 30, 2021, 06:29:30 PM
I like the way you think OP.

Yes buying bitcoin like planting trees but dont push yourself to buy if you can afford it
Can you really not afford to plant a tree? Go to the woods and find a few acorns, or chestnuts. They're lying everywhere, you don't have to pay or anything.

Next, dig a hole in a nice place like your back yard or a friend's back yard if you don't have your own. You can dig a hole with a stick if you don't have a shovel and, behold, you've planted a tree without spending a cent.  Grin

1049  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Had you sold your Bitcoins ? on: January 30, 2021, 05:51:38 PM
No, because even if you cash out now, you still lose considering the huge value BTC has.

I feel the same. Every time I felt like it was the peak and sold a little I regretted.

I'm a holder but every now and then I sell a little, not more than 5% of what I hold to have some fun, buy myself some things, celebrate the price and it's always the same afterwards. The price falls or goes up but 6 months later it's always higher than when I sold and I can't stop myself from thinking if I really needed the things I bought.
1050  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Up and Down how on: January 30, 2021, 05:28:15 PM

Also, funny how your account has been created in 2011 and with a thousand posts, but here you are asking questions that would be asked by a person literally new to this industry. 🤔

Maybe he bought this account.

His last post was in May of last year and then he woke up in November and his first post after 6 months of inactivity was a signature campaign application. Pretty normal thing for someone who bought the account to make money.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5145419.msg53030400#msg53030400

Or maybe he forgot about this account and was posting with his alts listed in his trust page in red Wink
1051  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling advertising monitored closely on: January 30, 2021, 05:04:33 PM
This aside we do have a bigger problem here to address.
1. Why did the company use this kind of advertising in the first way ?
2. What should we do to ensure that kids under 18 doesn't start to gamble? We cannot ask them for identity cards and then expect them to show.

Maybe it wasn't their intention to aim at children but show gambling as something innocent.

Who really plays with stuffed animals? Do 17 year olds do it? Do 16 year olds to it? Usually these toys are for children not neenager and children rarely have their own money.
It they wanted to promote among teenagers there were better way s than stuffed animals.

For you it's "children under 18" but in many countries 16 year olds are allowed to marry and start their own families. They also can drive cars. Is a 16 year old really a child?
1052  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Almost lost all of my coins in an exchange last week on: January 30, 2021, 04:29:42 PM
They just told me to move the coins out before I lose them and then no reply to my follow up email since.
...
Last week, I got three automated emails from them at the same time.
...
I sent an email using an old email thread to them reporting the situation, but got a reply saying that my IP is from an unsupported country which they cannot service.

You weren't from an unsupported country when they were trying to get your coins sent to them.

You weren't from an unsupported country when they were sending emails to you.

You have an issue? Suddenly you're from an unsupported country Cheesy

1053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: bull run is coming and just waiting for your turn on: January 30, 2021, 04:14:08 PM
This is that altcoin season people were waiting for last year.

I remember topics full of doubt and regret about the altcoin season not coming when Bitcoin broke its ATH last year and ETH and other altcoins weren't moving. Now that ETH broke its ATH we can expect this to go up some more. It's not going to break ATH and come back down. It would be a very unnatural move that nobody expects.
1054  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is up $4500 in 30 munites? on: January 29, 2021, 10:27:20 PM
Look completely artificial. It takes so much to deposit money on exchanges that it just couldn't be a spontaneous reaction of new buyers or institutions coming in. It had to be speculators who sold with fake news about the double spend.

It's funny but the whole thing deflated just hours after the pump. A short squeeze followed by new deposits from people who did not get to sell before the crash from 35 thousand last week?
1055  Economy / Speculation / Re: Best way to sell in 2021 — to buy more on the bear on: January 29, 2021, 10:07:05 PM
Is there even a bear market? It looks so much different than all the previous bearish turns like the price wants to pump up but the price is just too high for people to be able to effectively stack up.

I'll remind you all about a huge negative pressure from the miners that grows along with the price. They are mining the same amount of coins every week but people had to get much less fiat to keep buying these new coins when we were sub 20 thousand. Now at 35 it's a difficult job that requires almost 2 times more fiat every month.

of course OP is going to wait forever for his 16 thousand. We are not going back there even when we crash from the real bull market peak of 100 thousand or something like that. We'll still stop at 20. You can keep waiting and hoping just like those who waited for 1000 in the last bear market.
1056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Elon fuels BTC rise 17% DOGE gose 8× on: January 29, 2021, 09:35:58 PM
Crypto is Elon's new playground now?

What will happen when the tweets "Bitcoin as shit as FIAT" like the last time he did?

Reminds me of McAffee too. Since he is in jail now, somebody had to fill his spot. If Elon keeps doing this, he might be cell mates with McAffee.

It would be strange if he tweeted about it for a year and had nothing in his pocket when 1 bitcoin for him is like dust. He spends more on food than 1 bitcoin is worth.

It would also be pretty stupid if he changed his status before buying unless it was just a joke. People are hoping he will pump bitcoin but what if he's already in and taking profits from this pumps?
1057  Economy / Economics / Re: New US presidents are privacy-friendly? on: January 29, 2021, 09:21:56 PM
Biden has appointed Janet Yellen to succeed Treasury Secretary, but she made critical remarks this week, saying that cryptocurrencies are “mainly used for illegal financing”

Another proof that the governments are usually against privacy and free markets. They are also against free speech and supporting big corporations that are censoring or banning people.

Politicians know these corporations have great influence and will not hesitate to use them against their political rivals or other countries. Look what they did to Huawei but when the NSA was spying on German Chancellor it was all fine.
1058  Economy / Economics / Re: Florida bank says it has closed Trump's accounts on: January 29, 2021, 08:58:17 PM
Honestly, these banks are getting good publicity from vocal Trump Haters with these closing of bank accounts, they'd still get customer anyhow and compared to Trump's asset, having millions of users are better. So I don't think they arw inherently on the good side of things now that they chose to close on him. On Trump's end, we all know he deserved it. He literally broke the law he imposed.

It's always about money and I see a lot of that "me too" acting in this recent bank stunt. They know they can make money on this and at the same time show that they're like other banks who did the same. They want to look like they listen to the people and want to punish the wrongdoer. This is such a low move. It's all an act by greedy banksters.

To me they're showing that if one day they decide I or someone that I like did something wrong they'll punish him in their own way. I'm glad I don't hold my money in one of those banks.
1059  Economy / Economics / Re: Coin exchange markets create the coin "out of thin air " on: January 29, 2021, 08:44:22 PM
Binance (and other exchanges) have buyers and sellers. If you buy 0.0001 BTC, you are buying from a seller. If you are buying from the exchange, then the exchange is acting as the middle man.

When you first time bought the Btc from Binance, Binance took commision from transaction.
or How do you know the seller is Binance  robot or real seller ?

questions?

In fact many exchanges had their own bots doing the trading. The market is mostly unregulated so there's nobody watching. If they want to manipulate the price or have their own "willy bot" trading using fake fiat balance they can pull it off. It's a bit risky because when Chinese exchanges were faking volume in 2014 the government shut them down.

Even if they're trading for themselves, what can you do? You can stop using them and use the nearest ATM that will later sell your coins at one of those big exchanges.
1060  Economy / Economics / Re: after gamestop's short squeeze, reddit turns to doge. 600%+ today on: January 29, 2021, 08:32:25 PM
I stopped holding DOGE many years ago. But I am immensely happy for DOGE community and I hope that this will hold. DOGE and its community deserves it.
However, the DOGE price movements are crazy today (70-260-125-170), I'm curious where will this end up (or heading to).
For now... TO THE MOON!  Grin

I used to have it but moved to BTC. I felt like DOGE might be a joke, but despite being a joke it's also a pumper's dream. It has it's good days almost every year and people were saying years ago that since the meme had died the same fate will await the coin. The Internet community has proven them wrong time and time again.

Good Job Doge, keep the fun coming!
