If you want the same explanation in a video format, here's a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZloHVKk7DHk
Yes, the numbers are huge.

my WDC withdrawal from Vircurex.com - stuck...

from customerservice@vircurex.com no answer several days...

is anybody can help with this??

Their announcement said:

Remove all your balances for WC, WDC and ZET before 30.11.2014. We will delist the coins and withdrawals of these funds will not be possible after this date.

If you tried this after this date, seems like you may not be able to withdraw them.

Has anyone any news from Cryptsy?
Cryptsy generally doesn't comply with these airdrops (even though this switch to DPOS is being touted as a fork, it's more of an airdrop), so hopefully you had your PTS in your own wallet or on an exchange like Bter that honors these arrangements.

I see that Bter has started trading the new DPOS PTS, which is good news.

Hmm no, the handful I have are on cryptsy
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Cryptsy honors these for some reason. The market on Cryptsy looks to be on the old chain. I don't know if anyone is still mining (it was incredibly slow even before the move to DPOS) and if you can get them in/out. In any case, you should try to contact Cryptsy and ask them to claim these on your behalf. Most likely, they'll say no though (I would be interested to know what they say, if they write back to you).
1064  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Backslash - the easiest way to send and receive Bitcoin on: December 25, 2014, 09:03:14 PM
Just signed up under btcgeek.

10 Bits to confirm your phone number? You got to be kidding. Either make it something meaningful (e.g. 1000 bits) or just don't do it at all. I don't see what the 10 Bits 'reward' is supposed to accomplish.

It's a neat idea, but is there a good reason to use Backslash over say ChangeTip? How do you tie identities across platforms? How will you notify someone who is not on the service to claim his/her bits, e.g. if I want to send it to a Twitter handle?

Well shit, I've spent a year or two away from bitcoin and managed to heavily fuck up my finances. I'll do anything rotten for money.

So far, my skills are limited to:

Intermediate C# programming, with Winforms, Web apps and console programs*  --------------        1BTC per day spent;
Amateur web design that happens to be really cheap;                                     --------------        1BTC per day spent;
Video or Telephone technical support, billed per hour at a decent rate;              --------------         0.05BTC per Hr spent;
Simple DIY tuition up to and including pipework (but NOT for gasworks);            --------------         0.05BTC per Hr spent;
Proofreading and editing suggestions;                                                          --------------         0.02BTC per A4 sheet;
Mechanical turking, namely typistry;                                                            --------------         0.01BTC per Hr spent;
Business theory (at a heavily reduced rate).                                                 --------------         0.08BTC per 24 Hr session;

* Mainly object oriented, although procedural is within my understanding.
You got any examples of any previous work done in all these categories? A website with your portfolio perhaps?
1066  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2014 Casascius St. Petersburg Bowl Bitcoin Coin on: December 24, 2014, 01:13:51 AM
Why is it so high over spot?  I was going to buy until I saw the price :/
It's value comes from rarity, not from the cost of materials. Just like Bitcoin Smiley
1067  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Stellar on: December 23, 2014, 11:06:47 PM
As this is not the main Stellar thread, I hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions, some of which might be difficult, some just plain noobish to the Stellar approach.

I have been to a few meetings with bankers that made their living moving money for Wal-Mart into China to pay for goods.  As you may know WalMart buys a significant proportion of its goods from China so it transacts $billions through the banking system.  WalMart move so much money they can do so almost at cost.

Stellar is not really for big businesses. It does make sense for the majority of the market, the SME banking system and possibly the remittances market. Big businesses might be interested if it means they can trust Stellar and remove their cost of maintaining their own networks, but that carries various risks including regulatory risks.

But why isn't Stellar subject to regulations?

The only way I can think it would avoid being a regulated entity is if Stellar is a payment gateway where funds are never at risk. Clearly the recent forks demonstrate that funds might be at risk. If there is a chance that trusted funds might not make it to the other end of a transaction then Stellar needs to be regulated and not in just one jurisdiction but in every country that connects through Stellar. Surely?
What makes you think Stellar is not subject to regulations?
1068  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: FS:: legendary account, on: December 23, 2014, 10:45:10 PM
1.7 BTC highest bid right now, still open to better offers.
May I ask why you're selling your account, and whether you plan to be active on the forums through another username at all or are you done with this forum? What about your involvement in Bitcoin in general (still going to continue or called it quits)

1070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: December 22, 2014, 05:36:01 AM
Ah okay thanks
When Safecoin is plan to launch?
I have buy some Maidsafe at Poloniex, there is a wallet ?

A few posts above this, someone placed a link to the roadmap.  Currently, development is in Testnet 2 with Testnet 3 and Beta launch to go.  There is no time frame but a reasonable guesstimate is somewhere in Q1 2015.  There isn't another project that is reasonably on course to supplant Maidsafe, in my opinion, so the time frame is kind of less of a concern to me then the dev team rocking together some stout technology for real world use...

Maidsafe can be purchased at Poloniex but there is no wallet other than the Omniwallet.  You can send your Maid to that wallet and then transfer them to a BTC QT for safe keeping until the Safecoin transfer occurs.
I may be wrong about these projects, but isn't Storj a competitor, and ahead in the testing schedule? Is there a good guide on how Storj is different from MaidSafe (or similar)?
1071  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: best sites that gives free bitcoin ? on: December 20, 2014, 05:59:07 PM
I wrote a guide a while ago, which is more of a 'how can I earn Bitcoin' type of guide (no faucets) from very low to moderately high. Perhaps some of these sites might interest you: http://btcgeek.com/free-bitcoin/
But of course, perhaps the best way is to earn money and convert to Bitcoin Smiley

1073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitShares PTS (formerly ProtoShares) Mandatory Upgrade & Snapshot Announcement on: December 14, 2014, 06:29:20 AM
FYI: Poloniex may be honoring the snapshot at timestamp 23:59:59 GMT not last block solved on the 14th. Do Not dump early!
Quote
TheSherpa: oldmankidd, for the 14th snapshot on PTS are you going by last block solved for the day or balance at 13:59:59 GMT
Quote
OldManKidd: TheSherpa, probably going to be going with the timestamp 13:59:59
They should keep the markets closed in that case, like Bter always does. Currently, the Bter markets are closed
1074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitBay | Decentralized Marketplace | Unmoderated Thread on: December 14, 2014, 05:47:21 AM
Apologies if I sound crass, but is there a tl;dr version of what happened with the ICO/IPO if BitBiay and what the complaints are? These threads are too long.

Best TL / DR so far of this whole sorry mess (from Barrabas):

Remainder for those who insist on not wanting to keep track:

-- The chinese crooks, Lin and "Steven", still own around 400 MILLION coins

-- Zimbeck the Turd still owns 100 MILLION coins. He also has collected around 300 BTC so far.

-- Bob the Rat and Ryan the Weasel, not only have walked away with roughly 1,000 BTC altogether ALREADY, but the still hold approximately 40 MILLION coins.

Do with this info whatever you please. You are dealing IN ALL CASES, with the worst scum on the face of Planet Earth.
Is there something more comprehensive? Did the team not deliver what they promised? What are the scam accusations? If it was an IPO/ICO, isn't it normal for the team to own a portion of BTC and the alt?

1076  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Where to trade Bitshares? on: December 13, 2014, 08:24:15 PM
Where can I currently trade Bitshares? Neither cryptsy nor bter is accepting Bitshares deposits.
The exchanges halted trades after a bad release. Everyone is upgrading currently. You should be able to deposit Bitshares soon enough on Bter.
1077  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitShares PTS (formerly ProtoShares) Mandatory Upgrade & Snapshot Announcement on: December 10, 2014, 05:40:45 AM
Cryptsy users - withdraw your PTS or risk losing it -

Are other exchanges on-board, especially Bter and BTC38?

Looks like people are starting to take notice, price has almost doubled. I can only imagine where it will be once we get to the next stage of testing the system. Exciting stuff!
I wouldn't read too much into such a short pump. There are plenty of reasons why crptos shoot up in price and then fall back to close to their previous levels. If the price went up for no reason in the last 2 days, it can drop back for no reason in the next 2 days. But yes, definitely exciting stuff overall.

I also wouldn't recommend selling and waiting for it to fall in order to buy back in at a cheaper price.  The thought occurred to me but I think it might be too much of a risk.

That said, I have no idea how to interpret the recent price increase.  It's kind of fun to wake up and see it though...
True. The price is hard to predict either way. My point is, just because the price rose the last two days, doesn't mean it will keep rising when you release the next feature. It might. It might not. We've seen this movie play out before for a lot of different coins.
