1081  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BitCasino.io - 1.43BTC + 1.6BTC Scammed on: June 21, 2020, 10:28:00 AM
I can't even tell what's going on here. Something happens in April... your account gets deactivated in December... and then you create a forum thread in June, a whole year after the first deposit you had.
Where are the screenshots of your previous deposits? Of all other relevant emails? What is the point of this .43 BTC topic when your whole concern is with larger BTC amounts?
1082  Other / Meta / Re: The fourm accepts GRIN... why? on: June 21, 2020, 08:54:21 AM
I don't think this fourm should accept grin because that would cause why support a dead thing
Like epochtalk? Roll Eyes

It's such a trivial thing anyway... the coins that you're allowed to buy Copper Membership and thereby use to donate to the forum. Oh no, watch out! They'll engineer a usurping out of you yet, donation options!
1083  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beginner in this forum on: June 21, 2020, 08:26:31 AM
Nowhere better than the Bitcoin Developer Guide to start with learning about the functionality of Bitcoin, in my opinion: https://developer.bitcoin.org/devguide/block_chain.html

I was able to glean a large amount of knowledge from there and I thought of it as a very good entry point, especially if you have any technical background at all in computer science or mathematics. Though taking a look at the whitepaper is also a welcome place to start, some parts of it can use polish and apart from historical and cultural significance, you would be hard-pressed to find someone recommending it as the best place for learning about Bitcoin.
1084  Other / Meta / Re: Meriting: local boards posters vs rest of boards posters on: June 21, 2020, 07:40:14 AM
Local boards do have a merit abuse problem, yes. But honestly, we don't have to worry too much about excess merit being spread across the forum because eventually if they do anything meaningful with it (i.e. DT) people will know.

In the case of signature campaign woes (fighting over garbage 'jobs') you can also see their post quality. Merit is very subjective, just like how someone's post quality in the eyes of individual viewers is very subjective. You can't avoid shitty posts getting merit outside of Local and you can't avoid shitty posts getting merit inside of Local. Excluding any board from merit just because certain users are abusing the system is a very surface-level patch to the problem: you're not treating the root cause, merely the symptom.
1085  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetKing.io is a blatant scam operated by Dean Nolan on: June 20, 2020, 12:31:08 PM
Do you think only "real lawyers" sit in some stuffy office 60 hours a week while the economy has gone virtual the last 20 years?
I would certainly expect that those real lawyers you mention that have stuck with the times are also competent enough to consider the use of a website prior to merely a few months ere their advertisement of their services on a forum. SSL is also quite a low bar to pass for a website. Additionally, it's just odd that the difference in time between the user's account inception and its first post is that of nearly a year.  Can't say it means anything in particular but it's definitely a long lurking session.
1086  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Decade of investment on: June 20, 2020, 12:23:41 PM
Everyone knows bitcoin/cryptocurrency is the future, and so people would invest in it, making the value go up.
Certainly not everyone if you want to consider the fact that for there to be an exchange, on the other end you have a seller. Wink
Comparing a stock investment to crypto looks somehow wrong. Apple, Netflix and Amazon are big companies and they have more user/fan base.
How about the fact that the decade encompasses nearly the entire lifetime of Bitcoin, meaning any ROI is from inception?

Shit, if I could start at a number close to zero then the ROI from that growth would be off the walls too.
1087  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Decade of investment on: June 18, 2020, 04:57:00 AM
Kind of unfair to scale the ROI like that when you're only sampling from the winner's circle. Think survivor bias: you seldom hear of adventurer's tales that end in death.
It's silly to look at investing with hindsight since there will always be some "most profitable option" but at the time, the right choice is not the best choice. I'm not banking on my 7-2 hand to get a full house against pocket aces every time, nor am I expecting an altcoin to skyrocket. The possibility is there but if you're making decisions in the present, I can say that you would rather bank on the 80% chance to make 2x than the 0.001% chance to make 1000x.

If I approach every poker hand or shitty penny stock or altcoin with the thought "this might 1000x" then I would be out of money.
1088  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan Required : 0.45 , Collateral worth 0.6 approx on: June 17, 2020, 09:03:38 PM
Just wanted to inquire is it possible I could still get the collateral by any chance. If not I can still repay the amount.
The collateral was sold:

I have received the collateral.

Sold 6k XLM at 0.0000065 a piece and got 0.03892135 BTC.
Sold 50k BCN at 0.00000005 a piece and got 0.002495 BTC.

I got a total of 0.04141635 BTC from this when there was 0.0631836 BTC left until the principal was paid (so not even counting interest).

1089  Other / Meta / Re: "Forum User's Day" on: June 16, 2020, 03:39:09 PM
I don't think bitcointalk even needs a software update, though I know I'm probably in the serious minority by thinking that--but I certainly don't think it needs an overhaul in terms of structure or theme.  What we've got going on is pretty neat IMO.
There has to be at least one time where you think to yourself, "geez, couldn't this have been done in a better way?!"

Don't think that just because you got used to it that the quality is great. No, you just adjusted to the quality that it always had. Wink
1090  Economy / Lending / Re: *REQUEST* 0.3 BTC payback 0.36 BTC in July on: June 16, 2020, 03:05:09 AM
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Any time someone comes in asking for a loan, you have to think to yourself, "why are they asking for this loan?"

And then you think to yourself, "how are they going to pay it back?"
Hmm...
1091  Economy / Reputation / Re: actmyname reputation thread on: June 04, 2020, 04:55:41 PM
account seller said ))
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Think whatever you like, but usually account trades result in two password changes and an email change since I'm sure the new owner wouldn't want the previous one having access to it. Time will tell. Maybe I'm secretly Lauda after all?!?! Shocked
1092  Economy / Collectibles / Re: WTS Custom KNIFE.011 btc on: June 03, 2020, 11:56:08 PM
Your not salty? Oh yeah your the salt.....relax man my life isn't selling meme coin products, maybe yours is but it's not me..don't like it..don't buy it...it really is that simple
Mate. Take a step back, remove usernames from the conversation, and see what's happening.

There's no need to be so contemptuous: what's the point? It just escalates the situation and is a lose-lose for everyone.
1093  Economy / Reputation / Re: actmyname reputation thread on: June 03, 2020, 11:50:10 PM
Password change for security purposes. Any doubters can request a signed message. Smiley
1094  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To learn on: June 02, 2020, 06:25:41 PM
Explore and see for yourself obviously it's on the word reply if you want to reply, watch and notify if you want to get a notification of a new reply and mark unread because there will be markings when you read a topic by unmarking it you are not adding to the stat of the thread or topic, you still have to learn a lot on how this forum works so stop posting and read a lot.
I would rather have users ask about features than delve into them when they don't understand how they work. Sure, they can try things out, but how are they supposed to understand that the potential consequences of their actions are not significant?

After all, there have been many users that have accidentally locked their account due to the security question feature... it would have been best if they asked about it first, right? Feels a little contemptuous, your post.
1095  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: allow on-forum altcoin giveaways for established altcoins on: June 02, 2020, 06:22:49 PM
Here's my solution. Allow everything, but create a special subsection for Altcoin promotional giveaways and here's where the forum benefits. Require every giveaway thread to donate 1 million sats to the forum.

The spam is limited to that board. The forum gets some money. It's win-win.
People lose money to scammers, win-win indeed. Roll Eyes It is time to stop embracing innocent and naive individuals being financially harmed (and in extreme cases ruined) because of own petty greed.
I wonder where the lapse in logic happened where we are both banning altcoins due to spam and scams and where we have already created a board exclusively for scams (investor-based games).

Not that the forum really cares about scams... but best watch out if you post twice in a row!
1096  Other / Meta / Re: Having the NOTIFICATION shortcut tag of a new post made in the forum on: June 02, 2020, 04:04:15 PM
Is this located on the homepage of the forum, or all through the forum?
Exclusively on the index page, unless there's another secret page out there. The problem is, you need to first start ignoring boards to cater to your specific interests since I'm sure most people wouldn't like seeing constant bounty spam in the "recent posts" section.

I'm still not entirely sure what you're after: you want a notification for when boards are updated? One has the ability to notify their email address when a new topic is created within a given board and if you're looking for purely newly-unread posts, then the image option I explained above should work perfectly fine.

What else do we need?
1097  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to update the obsolete moderators from various boards / child boards on: June 02, 2020, 03:53:55 PM
My imagination was that they get paid weekly or monthly basis a fixed salary. I had no idea that things could work like this. Good to hear the information and it seems a win-win position for both sides :-D
As a general disclaimer, don't get it in your head that moderation is a good 'job' (similarly to signature campaigns). One should look at it like heightened volunteer work with a small financial incentive: you're not moderating for the money, you're doing it to clear the forum of spam.
1098  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is bitcoin not anonymous? on: June 02, 2020, 04:32:33 AM
There was no point of making the blockchain and all the transactions in it public
Then how could you keep a record that every user has to check to know the balance of their own addresses? Maybe it's possible, but I can't think of a way to make something private in a decentralized network.
More important than that is the ability for users to verify that the system is in fact fair. You create the immutability of these transactions thereby solidifying their reality. With continued and subsequent mining you build upon that security... it's the whole point of the blockchain, is it not?

How do you make sure nothing is unruly about other financial instruments? Smiley
Something interesting: in the past, the core client enabled sending to IP addresses... you can imagine why that was changed.
1099  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Dont fucking ask for KYC at all if your not going to require it at the beginning on: June 02, 2020, 04:29:55 AM
That's what these sites always do. KYC/AML might have good intentions but almost any law/rule that targets a specific group which also influences the general public will end up with the latter brunting most of the impact.

The individuals that want to avoid the KYC procedures will find a way while everyone else who isn't laundering money has to suffer the consequences of the change. Same thing happens when you see casinos implement bonus conditions and turnover requirements. It doesn't actually stop money laundering - it is just a sneaky way of wringing more out while being 'legally and morally upstanding' as a kicker.
1100  Other / Meta / Re: UP Button for post - For original poster on: June 01, 2020, 03:39:57 PM
Yes, we don't go to the first post but when we reach the updates late, you have to find the new update in the newly added pages. The same thing which I said for above reply.
If you use the shifting feature of posts, then why mention users not going to the first post? And if that's not the answer, then a pinned post is, and I don't like the idea of a pinned post at the top of all pages. You are prone to congestion and redundancy when browsing the thread. If anything, a simple solution is the editing of the title (e.g. <origText> [UPDATE <xx.xx.xx>]) and of the first post.
See how people are behaving in this campaign thread, and how others are making efforts to tell new people that there had been an update which they should follow!!

OP's NEW UPDATE

PEOPLE telling OTHER PEOPLE to CHECK UPDATE

This could have been solved with the changing of the title. Suffixed with "[applications closed]", most would see it and not bother replying.
The implementation of this would seldom see use, in my opinion.
