1141  Economy / Economics / Re: Cash is not trash on: March 17, 2023, 07:16:16 PM
In my country presently, we know how important cash has become, the government decide to renew our Fiat currency and it's not in circulation yet, for some reasons, some people believe that it was intentional because they don't want some bad actors to use Fiat to rig the ongoing election in the country.

But since all this mess have started, many people are suffering, and I as a person have no hold the new fiat Note because I can't get a hold of one yet, and just because many stores prefer Cash than digital transfer, this have make me see how important Fiat currency can be.

Some people will say that Fiat is trash and they keep all their money in stable coins, the truth of this is you are doing things wrong, the stable coins in crypto space are backed by nothing, they can vanish into thin air if the government doesn't want stable coins to exists.

I believe that all stable coins are easier to trample on by the government, more than other crypto projects in this space, Fiat has it's usefulness, let's stop deceiving ourselves, the first time I ever purchased Bitcoin I use Fiat and I believe this is the same as everybody on here, unless you mine your own Bitcoin or get paid in Bitcoin working online.

Do not trash Fiat yourself when it's actually needy, crypto and Fiat must co-exists until the government decide to go digital with Fiat themselves, and Fiat is not trash.

I'm not against cash. Cash helps you keep your anonymity and privacy. That's why many countries are trying to get rid of cash ASAP.
Digital money is much much worse.

As to the savings and investments, it's much better to keep em in Bitcoin not stablecoins. Be your own bank!

Not really the votes you imagined, isn't it? 6/6 and 2? Seems like the "we" is on its way to a minority.
Btw, I didn't vote in that poll since you simply asked the wrong questions!
I'm against banning ordinals, but this doesn't change the fact that I do believe they are some stupid monkey jpeg farts.

Not sure what you mean. I didn't imagine any results as you're saying, I just wanted to find out what the situation is like. I don't want some fake, biased results I even invited ordinals fans to participate in order for the poll to be more correct.  Grin

Unfortunately, too few people participated so it's unclear so far what the situation is like in real life.

As to the "wrong" questions, this is my poll and I'm asking questions and I'm not sure why you're judging me? Create your own with "right" questions, I'll be happy if we'll get a clearer image of what's going on from that.
1143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 17, 2023, 09:59:12 AM
In the first semi final its Medvedev v Tiafoe, I think Medvedev will prevail and go to
the final and if so who of the 4 remaining competitors in the 2 remaining quarter finals
could beat him in the final? Alcaraz?

Medvedev is playing really great tennis at the moment. He will certainly win against Tiafoe. I do not see anyone who could beat him in the final at the moment. Alcaraz is not ready yet. Medvedev comes into the final with a lot of confidence. He has already won 3 tournaments this year and will probably win this one as well.

I wouldn't be so sure... modern tennis is so athletic, winning 2, 3 let alone 4 tournaments is a huge stress for your body (in fact I can't remember any player in recent times who would do it). I bet Medvedev feels completely worn out at this point and his biggest issue is fatigue not the competitors. He can as well lose to Tiafoe. And let's be fair, Davidovich Fokina didn't play the best match in his life against Medvedev so who knows what could have happened... So there's that.
1144  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 16, 2023, 07:35:10 AM
I see Medvedev becoming the favorite in this tournament after being able to get past his toughest challenger Zverev, in the quarterfinals he will face a relatively easier opponent and don't mean to underestimate his opponent but Medvedev is currently in his best condition it will be quite difficult for Fokina to stop him, so I don't think that Medvedev will lose in the quarter final match later

Felix Auger-Aliassime managed to beat T. Paul in a long battle, this was not an easy match for him. He needed 6 times to still play after Paul get match point several times, after trailing 3-6 during the tie break in the third set he was able to take all the points to close the match and advanced to face Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.
Danil Medvedev have won the quarter finals and progressed to Semi finals. He have won the match on direct sets 6-3 7-5. As said this match isn't tough as the one he played against Zverev. Alcaraz to play against Felix Auger Aliassime is going to be interesting.

This guy is amazing! He won 3 tournaments in a row and now eased past Davidovich Fokina right into the semis! On a Masters series tournament!

Anyway, match of the day today (for me) is Fritz v Sinner. I'm not going to bet on this just watch: it's gonna be entertaining!

Today's second ATP quarterfinal: Alcaraz v Auger Aliassime and I'm betting on Carlitos in this one. I just don't see the way how Felix can win this, sorry. Although 3 sets are possible.

WTA is pretty straightforward today: it's going to be an easy walk in a park for Rybakina and Swiatek. Rybakina is playing Muchova and Swiatek is taking on Sorana Cirstea. Cool
1145  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NFTs in the Bitcoin blockchain - Ordinal Theory on: March 15, 2023, 08:50:04 PM
And I agree, it is naive to let time fix your problems, except that I do not think Ordinals are a problem, which is why I count on time to prove if they are worthy to stay on the blockchain, if you think they cause problems  then thats on you to fix them.
Considering how tokens and silly things like the Ordinals attack have never contributed to anything in the real world and have never provided any real utilities, it is obvious that nobody wants them except the gamblers who are making bets on anything they can. They might as well do it on highly volatile tokens that can see huge pumps and dumps.
If an alternative is provided to these gamblers, they won't hesitate to abandon the "Token Casino" in a blinking of an eye.

A lot of art sucks and has no utility in the real world.

What utility does the Mona Lisa have?
What utility does Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup lithographs have?

Tell you what if I gave you a painting from Picasso it has no utility.

Yes, art has value and no utility. Mona Lisa has value in the meat world, but why would somebody want to create a digital copy and sell it? Try painting Mona Lisa and selling it as the real thing? Will be very hard to explain it to the cops... but why does everybody and his dog is selling digital copies of artworks? Ok not all NFTs are forgery but why they're trying to stick it into the blockchain? Art belongs in the museum, not on the blockchain...

And all those kitty/monkey pics and Bitcoin chart screenshots? You call that art? They have no value whatsoever.
1146  Economy / Economics / Re: If they have the solution, why are banks still failing? on: March 15, 2023, 06:00:30 PM

I guess the problems for the European banks turned out much more serious than initially thought. Credit Suisse, second biggest Swiss bank (after UBS) is tanking after the news  that there will be no help from their investor Saudi National Bank.
1147  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 15, 2023, 07:00:30 AM
Medvedev - Zverev. A great match. That was Zverevs best game since his injury. It is nice to see how he is improving from game to game. In this match he showed his top performance again more often. But not yet from the beginning to the end. Nevertheless, a great development. In set 3 he showed a strong will again shortly before the end and also fought against defeat. But then he made too many mistakes and Medvedev won.

I agree, good match, arguably the best so far in this tournament. Zverev was hitting BIG making Medvedev look like an amateur sometimes. That backhand! Wow! Perhaps he didn't even need that much power to win, just to make less mistakes. Also serve was not that impressive (or Medvedev receiving somewhere in the stands made it look so).  Grin

Anyway, today we'll have some more great matches to watch:

WTA: Gauff v Sabalenka (Sabalenka will win probably, but Coco is also good on her home soil so I won't be betting on this one), Sakkari v Kvitova another great matchup, I guess I'm gonna bet on Petra. Flawless performance so far in Indian Wells! She's a WTA veteran so let's hope she has some energy left to play.

ATP: Medvedev v Davidovich Fokina Another great match, but I won't dare to bet. Medvedev has won 3 tournaments in a row and had a very exhausting match vs Zverev so I'm not sure if he's got enough energy to defeat the Spaniard.
1148  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: March 14, 2023, 09:50:52 PM

I'm just going to leave this here. It's clear that it's becoming a little bit more than just "a problem" for Europe. Europe is stress-testing it's covid-beaten economy for no reason if you ask me.
1149  Economy / Economics / Re: If they have the solution, why are banks still failing? on: March 14, 2023, 05:43:38 PM
The stock of Silicon Valley Bank, one of the biggest banks in the US collapsed to 65% before trading was halted. This is the largest bank failure since the 2008 financial crisis.
The bank's parent failed to get a buyer making the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation close Silicon Valley Bank and appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as receiver. Customers were scared and began to pull out their funds to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

Economists are warning that the fall of SIVB might spread and have a bad effect on the entire banking sector. The shares of many banks in the US and Europe dropped because of this incident.  According to Reuter U.S. banks have lost over $100 billion stock market value in two days, with European banks losing around another $50 billion in value.

I have always seen bad news about the cryptocurrency industry making headlines in national and international newspapers. The government and bankers criticize the industry and portray the banks as the only remedy to the financial problems of the world. SVB recorded six straight quarterly losses, why didn't these financial gurus fix the bank? Yet they claim to be the only solution.

https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/us-bank-stocks-add-losses-regulators-shutter-svb-financial-2023-03-10/

Yes, it was a huge blow to the EU banks, most banks lost 10-15% in hours. It's incredible how fast information spreads nowadays. And it's shocking how fast people are withdrawing their funds from the bank account in case of such emergency. Let's just hope domino effect doesn't start... Grin

If you think the majority supports ordinals, why don't you create a poll on this and we'll see who's the majority?  Grin
I'd gladly fork this crap off immediately but unfortunately I'm not a core dev so all I can do is urge people to act responsibly (rarely works).  Roll Eyes

Why don't you do it?
Cause you're the one bitching around for a change!
It's you who wants to change something based on the will of "the people", not me!

Change? I don't want any change. Please bring my empty mempool back!  Grin  We somehow managed to survive 14 years in Bitcoin without ordinals and now it's me wanting change? Hahaha...

I did start a poll thread, please drop by and leave your vote!  Wink
1151  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: March 13, 2023, 05:40:12 PM
According to this source: https://europe.autonews.com/environmentemissions/europes-2035-combustion-engine-ban-opposed-germany-italy Germany and also Italy are going to block this law. Hungary and Poland are not particularly happy as well. Honestly, I can understand Germans very well as their country is quite big and car culture is deep in their blood. EV vehicles are not very suitable for long distance driving because of limited range.
1152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 13, 2023, 04:54:51 PM
Medvedev is going to play against Ivashka in the next match which I believe is going to be a little easier for Medvedev. I do not believe that he is going to face too many problems in this match. But he will certainly have a better opponent going forward in the competition.
But Ivashka put up a bit of a fight so he took the second set I thought this would be his comeback, but Medvedev's in third set didn't leave any room for his opponent to improve and finished with a convincing score.
In the next match, he will face Zverev, this match will be exciting, don't know who will win because both of them have the same chances. It is likely that it will last 3 sets. If Zverev can serve well, it will be his weapon to gain many points in the match later.

I don't think this is anything surprising for anyone. I believe everyone almost expected that Medvedev is going to be the winner. Of course in the second set, he did face some difficulties from Ivashka. It would have been a great comeback if he actually succeeded to win the match.

The next match for Medvedev is going to be a little harder because he is going up against Zverev. This is certainly a lot harder competition compared to his last match.

Zverev is improving his tennis literally match by match. I think he's getting close to his best form. But in my opinion, he doesn't stand a chance against Medvedev. Zverev also didn't look particularly confident against Ruusuvuori. So, my bet will be on Medvedev. Cool
1153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 13, 2023, 09:43:09 AM
Got unlucky yesterday with two bets: Noskova was defeated by Gauff and Teichmann surrendered to Peterson. It's ok, it's WTA after all and it can be unpredictable sometimes.  Grin

Today's matches in Indian Wells to watch: Rybakina v Badosa (my bet on Rybakina), Swiatek v Andreescu (Swiatek of course), Fernandez v Garcia (me betting on Garcia). All these great matches will start early US time, so good opportunity to watch if you're located in Europe.
1154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you for or against ordinals? on: March 13, 2023, 08:02:07 AM
A better question would be:

Are you for trying to take measures to hamper, limit, or ban the use of ordinals on bitcoin?

I don't care about ordinals, but given the need to create a competitive fee market, I'm definitely not for any such attempts.

However, to keep with the current poll setup, you could make it less biased by rephrasing

    Yes, ordinals are great!

to

Yes, ordinals help create a fee-market that's necessary in the long term.

In short: I did it on purpose to make it an easy yes/no type of question. I'm not trying to find out the details, I'm interested in what's the general attitude towards ordinals in our community.  Cool
1155  Economy / Economics / Re: Silicone Valley Bank bust in 48 hours - Crypto exchanges could be doomed easily! on: March 13, 2023, 07:31:03 AM
How a fiat bank going bust can be related to crypto exchanges being "doomed"? Such clickbait headlines are created to spread FUD. And I was shocked to find out Roubini only considers 99% of crypto a scam! That's great news!  Grin
1156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Are you for or against ordinals? on: March 13, 2023, 06:58:12 AM
Lots of ordinals threads/discussions here lately. It's time to find out which % of Bitcointalk users support ordinals and how many think they should be stopped.
1157  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 12, 2023, 07:37:10 PM
Andrey Rublev - Ugo Humbert

Andrey Rublev comes to this game occupying the number 7 position, but he has already reached a better position when in 2019 he managed to reach the number 5 position in the world, in his last game he beat Jiri Lehecka, on the other side his opponent Ugo Humbert who currently occupies the number 77 position and the best position he reached was in 2021 when he reached the number 25 position, last year he had a very bad performance, he also comes to this game with a victory. for this game i believe that Andrey Rublev will win this game, in my opinion he is more skillful than his opponent

Stan Wawrinka - Holger Rune

Stan Wawrinka comes into this game while occupying the number 100 position in the ATP ranking, although he is in this position, in 2014 he managed to reach 3 position, but since 2017 he has not been able to achieve great achievements and this could be due to injuries that he has had, he comes from a victory against Miomir Kecmanovic. on the other hand, his opponent Holger Rune, who takes him to position number 8, comes to this game very motivated, in his last game he won. in my opinion, Holger Rune is a younger athlete compared to Stan Wawrinka, the Stan Wawrinka who has been injured, and is 37 years old, no longer has the same performance he had when he was younger and will be facing a 19-year-old opponent with much talent. for me the Holger Rune won the game

unfortunately I will not be able to watch these two games

It's a no-brainer, I fully agree and I bet the same: Rublev and Rune! Easy money guys!

Meanwhile, on WTA tour: Teichmann v Peterson going on atm and my bet was on the Swiss. She won the first set 6:3 and has a good chance to win and advance to R4.
1158  Economy / Economics / Re: War: who benefits and how! on: March 12, 2023, 07:20:53 PM

The biggest winner will be Russia, but only if they will manage to win the war. They will get morale boost, Ukrainian territory, people, remaining industry, sea ports  etc etc etc.

Russia will no longer win this war, and this is already obvious. As soon as the weather is good for the offensive of heavy equipment and Ukraine receives the military assistance promised from the West, which is already arriving, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will counterattack and in May-June will inflict a residual defeat on Russian troops, and will also liberate almost all of their occupied territories.

Despite the mobilization of more than 300,000 of its citizens since September and the general offensive in eastern Ukraine, Russia has not been able to achieve any success at the front in recent months. Moreover, the largest armored offensive by the Russians near Ugledar turned into a major defeat, where over 130 armored vehicles were destroyed (including 36 tanks), and elite units of the Russian airborne troops were defeated. Moreover, these units never reached the front line and were completely defeated on the way.
Since May last year, Russia has been attacking the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine to no avail. Almost the entire 50,000-strong Wagner PMC and the remnants of the 200,000-strong Russian invasion army in February last year ingloriously perished here. Russia is already running out of military equipment and now rarities from the Second World War are already getting to the front, and Russian troops are increasingly refusing to attack the fortified positions of the defenders of Ukraine. The Russian command has recently chosen the "meat rampart" tactic, when, without artillery preparation and armored vehicle support, it continuously attacks the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in small groups of 10-20 people. Probably in the hope that the barrels of their weapons will overheat in the Ukrainians or the cartridges will run out. Over the past 24 hours alone, more than a hundred attacks by the invaders have been repulsed, and their daily losses on the Ukrainian front often amount to more than a thousand people.

Just to remind you Ukraine has been receiving military equipment from it's allies worth billions of dollars since day one. Why do you think that receiving 30 or 40 German tanks will improve the situation considerably?

As to Bakhmut, from what I've read, is already under siege, it's only a matter of time that it's going to fall. By the way, the attack on Bakhmut started in November not in May as you mentioned. In May some shelling by the Russians took place though. At least that's what Wikipedia has on record. And you didn't mention the Ukrainian losses and they should be pretty severe too.

Quote from: Ozero
After such a defeat, Russia is unlikely to remain within its current borders. Five regions of Russia have already held an online referendum for secession from Russia and the formation of independent states. Further it will be even more interesting.

Sounds interesting... Could you please provide a link to your source?
1159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have failed too severely, time to give up? on: March 12, 2023, 06:44:27 PM
I come from a hard-core farming family, and we are all involved in agriculture. I was able to get ( inherit) an acre of land from my parents, and I started my cocoa farming business in 2010. Since then, it has improved greatly, and I have been able to purchase a sizable amount of Bitcoin with the business, even though it is seasonal and can produce both good and bad results.

Although I did everything in my power to increase business adoption of cryptocurrencies, I gave away some Bitcoin and some other coins too, and Bitcoin was my primary goal to use as means of exchange , yet, I have failed badly.

Those who buy bags of cocoa from my farm are older illiterate people, I wasted my energy,  trying to even tell them the benefits that comes with paying with Bitcoin, they are not even ready to take advantage of my discount, then I stopped.

In 2020, two special buyers are now handled by younger guys, the sons, I thought I will be able to handle them and make Bitcoin payment a possibility,  it still doesn't work, these young lads are just like their old men.

So I give up, I decided to talk about this because I still find it hard to believe that no where in this world of agriculture is accepting Bitcoin as means of payment.

Is there anyone into agriculture and farming that are accepting Bitcoin?

What advice do you have for me at this point?

Should I just give up for now and wait for the future maybe when Bitcoin gets more popular? Or Bitcoin and farming makes no sense together?

I guess the businesses of these two buyers you mentioned are still being run by the same old guys, their sons are merely the reps who are doing what the business owner tells them to. So how can you expect any change? And yeah, many people still think Bitcoin is some kind of ponzi and would avoid it. Can't blame them if they make a living from their business.
1160  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NFTs in the Bitcoin blockchain - Ordinal Theory on: March 12, 2023, 06:30:59 PM
Muahahahaha... so you're trying to say that in fact the majority of Bitcoin users support ordinals? That's like the funniest stuff I've heard this year.  Grin
I don't think there's much sense in this discussion when your opposition is coming up with bozo claims like this...

What I'm saying is that you seem to suffer from the same thing a delusion of being the voice of many, and worse than that is manifesting the same commie behavior of judging one who doesn't agree with you as an enemy. The most important thing is, how do you know what the majority wants? Maybe as extrapolating from the views here the majority doesn't like ordinals but they hate censorship more, which for every single individual or bitcoin "user" would be normal behavior.

But if you're that sure the majority are against it, why don't you fork it already?
Cause all I see here are 4-5 users bitching on a forum about and 200k ordinals being burned already, so who decided this "majority" and who counts the votes of this so called majority? I hope it's not Stalin!

If you think the majority supports ordinals, why don't you create a poll on this and we'll see who's the majority?  Grin

I'd gladly fork this crap off immediately but unfortunately I'm not a core dev so all I can do is urge people to act responsibly (rarely works).  Roll Eyes

P.S. And all these 200k ordinals were create by 200k people? Or a dozen of spammers?  Grin
