Dude you are lucky lol,I am using Xapo and paying 0.0018 btc in fees thats 4.5 usd... I started using bitcoins instead of paypal because of fees but now bitcoins fees are higher than Paypal that's insane amount of fees comparated to other payments ways..

That is indeed high! IMO, you should use a different wallet.

I would also like to know SpectroCoin users. I hear both positive and negative feedback. It is hard to come to a conclusion or decision. Sharing your experience would be much appreciated!

P.S. I don't want to know about their designs or used-friendliness! Rather, about their services, its quality and about their support.
123  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger wallet - sign message with specific BTC address on: June 30, 2017, 12:39:45 PM
  -snip-
i update the firmware of my ledger. then you have to restore...... but afterwards you can install the new BTC wallet and you can choose which address to use to sign a message.
unfortunately it does not work to sign a message that the byteball bot understands. i dont know why.
i found out why it dit not work. if you sign a message with this wallet then the first line of signature is the address you sign with. you have to remove this line.
Glad that you got it working... so just to clarify, you had to update the ledger firmware and then install the new chrome wallet app and that allows you to choose and address to sign a message with? I'm a little confused about the issue you had tho... you're saying that the ledger wallet generates two signature lines? Can you provide a screenshot?

When you sign messages, clients/software usually put your address above or along with signature. He probably copied whole text(address+signature) and entered in Byteball. Obviously, they will consider signature given as invalid. So he removed address, what he is referring to as "this line", and entered it again and it worked, as it should be!

Btw, HCP, how did you get the key derivation path in step 6?

I did till step 6. But on step 7 cann't find  one that matches one of the "1" addresses generated in Step 3...

Try 30 or an increased number in "Show more rows". I haven't done it, but if derivation path m/0 is correct, address you are looking for will be there.

tried 100..but online, did not get ho to use offline

Did you get the address you are looking for?

Step 7. Hunt through the list of generated addresses until you find one that matches one of the "1" addresses generated in Step 3:

Congratulations, you now have the private key for one of your 3 "MultiSig" addresses.

  -snip-

There is only "one" multisig address address and m number of addresses(public key, actually) used to create a multisig address. The private key you get by follow the steps above is private key corresponding to one of the addresses used to create your multisig address.

  -snip-
Personally, I think I prefer the BIP39 website method as it creates only one wallet that has both the private keys for signing the message.

I didn't understand what you mean by this(bolded part). Can you please explain?

Is 14 the maximum amount of activity that you can gain in 14 days? I went from 28 to 42 and was wondering where I could end up next Tuesday. Hopefully 60+, so i'll be a member, but probably 56..

Yes, you can only get a maximum of 14 activity points every 2 weeks.

Your activity will be 56.
128  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on IPhone? on: June 30, 2017, 07:12:52 AM
There have been rumors of a possible Electrum App for iPhone but so far there hasn't been one.

I've heard good things about Breadwallet for iPhone so you may want to check that out for storing bitcoins on your phone.

Bither and Mycelium. But, Mycelium may not be as user-friendly to many as Bither and Breadwallet.
129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to sign a message?! on: June 29, 2017, 07:14:52 PM
You can use http://brainwalletx.github.io/#verify instead.

I'm not sure if there's another thread for this already, or if this belongs in a different section. So basically I thought it would be helpful to post up your Bitcoin address in this thread in the event that your account gets compromised later on down the road. You can simply make a new alt account, sign the address that your original account posted here, and have irrefutable proof that you're the actual owner. It's not 100% guaranteed that you'll get your account back, but it's a pretty good start. Of course, if your account is compromised, the hacker could just come back to this thread and edit/delete whatever address you post here, so that's why I'm asking people to quote the address posted by the preceding user in this thread. Here's mine:

hi guys,
I met the same problem, and asked to sign 2 of 3 address form P2SH address.
If I give up the electrum 2FA wallet and restore, could I sign after that?

No, you can't sign messages with multisig address (starting with '3'). There is a way to prove ownership of that address. For that, see post above yours.

Hi Zakir,

Was the way to prove ownership of that address as below?

'Getting 2 sigs using a 2FA wallet would require you to ask TrustedCoin for help or to restore your 2FA wallet using your seed which apparently puts 2 of the 3 keys on your computer... see: http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/2fa.html'

So that if I restore the 2FA electrum wallet, I would get 2 of 3 keys of '1' address?

No! Restoring 2FA wallet would put two xprv keys* in your computer. To know P2PKH addresses (starting with '1') needed to sign message with and to get their private keys, see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1989262.msg19845248#msg19845248.

By the way, please don't post same thing in many threads. Stick to one and post in another only if you didn't get any reply. You need to at least wait a few hours, sometime for even a day.

* 2-of-3 multisig addresses are created on 2FA wallet. Those two keys are what needed to sign a transaction when sending bitcoins.
132  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Verify Message with electrum 2fa on: June 29, 2017, 05:29:19 PM
  -snip-

Yeah, it looks like you cannot sign a message from a multisig address. A 2FA wallet is a type of multisig address.

See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1576803.5 for more information.

The thread says it's possible to sign a message with the privkeys of the keyholders. So each one can create a signed message. How can that be done with electrum?

A few things has to be done. Read this[1] on how to recreate redeem script. Then, read this[2]. When you restore, don't do it in the same client you usually use. Do it in a different computer or virtual box or better yet, use live USB without persistence. Remember to use a secure computer when doing this. If not, your wallet could be compromised. When using virtual box, there maybe problems with directory. You can change directory with electrum --dir <directory>. For windows, do it in the same way you do for Bitcoin core[3] except replacing -datadir=<directory> with --dir <directory>

After that, create address with xprv key and corresponding xpub key. I don't know any website or web app which helps you do that[4]. So I can't help you in that!

[2] https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3wyjev/comment/cy0275q
[3] https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory
[4] It is just that I only have little technical knowledgeable, maybe not even "little". So wait for somebody else!

Each keyholder has a privkey. He only would be able to access a certain multisig address starting with a 3 through a multisig wallet. And electrum is the only one being able to create this address.

Can bitcoin core sign a message for a multisig address alone just by providing a single privkey for the address? I doubt it somehow. So how would it work signing messages from each keyholder of a multisig address?

You are signing with private keys of public keys used to create your multisig address, which are P2PKH address (starting with '1'. You can see which addresses you want to sign to prove you are in control of that multisig address or send bitcoins from a multisig address with redeem script. Try entering a redeem script in http://coinb.in/#verify.

Note: Normally, you use m of n-of-m number of addresses to create a multisig address. Thus, you already know which addresses are needed to sign a transaction for it to be valid. Therefore, there isn't a need to do all this. This is for HD multisig wallets.

Hi HCP,

Could you please confirm if I restore my 2FA wallet using seed, could I sign the 2 of 3 '1' start address and claim the XLM?
Thanks

@heropzy: Posting once is enough. And restoring 2FA wallet using seed will still create multisig address, not P2PKH address (starting with '1'). So, no! Please read post above yours before asking questions again!
134  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on IPhone? on: June 29, 2017, 03:31:35 PM
I use electrum for bitcoin on my computer.  Im just curious but is there a way to keep bitcoins an iphone with electrum?  I assume not?

There is no Electrum iOS app created. So for now, no!

Also im curious but do most people store their bitcoins on their computer as oppose to other places besides paper wallet?

Bitcoiners use

  - Hardware wallets
  - Computer
  - Paper wallets
  - Mobile
  - USB or other storage devices

Usually, people use mobile wallets for small amount. For large amounts, most of them tend to go for cold storage or hardware wallet. There are users who use mobile for storing large amounts. For example, you can use Bither hot+cold wallets for storing Bitcoins securely. How great security depends on users.

Like some ppl might store bitcoin on blockchain and they can access it anytime with their phone right?

Yes, if you store in exchanges or online wallets, you can access your Bitcoins anytime.

But doing this is not so secure so thats why bitcoins should be stored in computer always?

I highly recommend you not to use online wallets or exchanges to store your bitcoins. Whether to store bitcoins in computer or not is up to you!

Also what about ppl that use a program like trezor etc.  Could they store bitcoin on their phone pretty safe with trezor etc?

I want to tell you that we aren't actually storing bitcoins in our wallets. We are storing private keys which is needed to access/send bitcoins. Trezor and all other hardware wallets, afaik, store private keys inside. They never expose private keys and that's what makes them secure. As private keys never leave the device, you can reduce chances of losing bitcoins (or potential risks of a hot wallet). Therefore, if you are using, "normally", you can not send bitcoins from your mobile *without* Trezor.

Thanks.

You are welcome!

* Edited.

«UPDATE»
List and all scores refreshed...
Thanks for  updating list. Suggestion : Would be good to post below chart on pg1 of thread an Update Date e.g. LAST UPDATED : 24th June 2017

Anyone out there help with Escrow on AGC e-gift card for btc at a rate of 20%
I’m selling for AGC $38 & want $30 btc (0.011)
Seems many Escrows don’t do gift cards & not open to 0.01 trades

Because it is hard to escrow a trade of gift card.

1. Seller can use it before buyer does.
2. Buyer can use it and say seller used it before he could.

In both cases, a forged proof can be shown. Escrow won't be able to do anything once that happens. It is hard to "successfully" escrow such trades If there is a way to change codes* of a gift card, escrow can do their job successfully. AFAIK, there isn't any such service!

Edit: It maybe confusing when I say "change codes". In simple words, redeem gift card send by seller, escrow creates new one and send to buyer. You can't do this with Amazon. Is there any websites which supports this?

If you want to conduct a small transaction and there isn't any escrow, I can do it. For large sums, I am not doing it until my existing issue of Bitcoin/PGP address is solved. You can use my service as a last resort, but I doubt there would be anyone except who knows that I really am MZ, to trust me with large sums.

137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to prove that a multi-sig-addresses (starting with 3) belongs to someone on: June 29, 2017, 01:01:08 PM
It is not possible for you to sign a P2SH address. P2SH works in a way such that a few public keys is needed to generate the address. The individual public keys are also valid Bitcoin addresses that starts with 1.

It is however, possible to sign a message with the addresses in the public key that is used to create the multisig. As long as you can get at least n signed messages in an n-of-m configuration, it is sufficient proof that you control the address.

Thanks and sorry for my ignorance... please be in mind I'm a rookie...sorry!!!

I give you more information in case you can continues helping me:

My address starting with 3 is a Trustedcoin 2FA wallet generated by Electrum wallet. Therefore I'm not sure I've got the public key that was used to create the multisig. What I've got are the 3 publics keys and the private key correspondign to my address starting with 3.

I think is a 2-of-3 configuration (one of them is owned by Trustedcoin in order to make the 2FA process; and the other 2 it's supossed are mine) And the matter it's that I don't know how to get the 2 signed messages you told me to proof that I control my address starting with 3.

Please if you can be more detailed for me I'll be grateful!!!

Read https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3wyjev/comment/cy0275q. You will find there how to get master private keys and master public keys. You can generate address with it and sign a message. According to ranochigo, you need to sign message with an address created from each of the private keys.

@ranochigo: Even if he signs with address created from both of the keys, how can he use it to prove multisig address ownership other exposing your xpub key which I presume what you are thinking? Please enlighten me! Thanks! Nevermind. My ignorance!
138  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [ANN] Bither - simple&secure Bitcoin wallet.(New mobile/desktop ver released) on: June 29, 2017, 11:31:07 AM
How to recover HD account from seed in Bither?
Import --> From HD Account Phrase.

In iOS, Advanced Options -> Import Private Key -> HD account passphrase.

I couldn't find 'Import (from) HD account seed/paraphrase' in 'Advanced Options' and that's why, I was confused.

And what is "HDM Recovery"?

HDM = HD + Multisig.

- 2/3 Multisig;
- 3 keys (Cold, Hot, Server) all based on HD;
- XRandom seeds for HD;
- Access server API via BitID technology;
- HD's convenience + Multisig's safety;
- Easy to backup (only need HDM Cold seed);
- Bither's Cold/Hot modes with XRandom are the best mates with HDM;-TXs are signed based on RFC6979 to ensure security;
- Parent pub keys of each HD chain won’t leave its own device (Cold, Hot, Server). No ways to leak;
- BIP16, BIP32, BIP39, BIP44, BitID, RFC6979, XRandom, Bither (Cold/Hot)

Thanks!

I think someone is destroying qtum project reputation here in BTT..

theymos deleted them.

I wiped all of those spam PMs, and the senders are all banned.
140  Other / Meta / Re: Wall Observer Thread locked? on: June 29, 2017, 09:45:01 AM
Because the op of that thread is no longer active and doesn't moderate off topic postings and as such it's now mostly full of idiots discussing alt coins day after day. Sick of seeing dozens of reports from that thread every day. Plenty of other pointless threads in Speculation to talk shit in. If you want to talk about alt coins then do that in the alt coin section.

Another idiot moderator's opinion ... just do your fucking job and clean the thread up (if you can't handle the heat in the kitchen, get out, and no winging on the way out either).

There are lots of spamming and trolling. Mods have to leave good portion of their time just for that thread. They are also moderating other threads. If you feel like you can do the work, you are free to start a self-moderated thread. But, it has already been done by someone else. Now you can move the discussion to that thread.

How could it be "another pointless thread" if it is getting so much attention from the trolls and spammers? Not to mention the massive number of views it gets daily.

It has become a pointless thread because it is getting so much attention from spammers and trolls.

You moderators are ruining bitcointalk as much as the spammers and trolls that you are letting run amok.

Maybe all that money spent on the forum software (where is that by the way?) would have been better spent on moderator attitude training?

It is easy to say, but hard to do!

I understand some of your views. I have also checked it, before - frequently and now - not so much. There are good posts there and honestly, it "was" a great discussion thread! But now, a majority are spams and trolls now. It was self-moderated and when OP was active, he is also doing his work and spams were less iirc. Anyway, now there is a new self-moderated thread. So why make a fuss over this? If you are unsatisfied or hard to accept this, come up with better ideas/propositions.
