just curious to know, how do you mine solo ? What is your hardware ? How many gpu, do you have ?

how do you mine solo? The links to solo mining were on the posts that were removed.

What hardware?  Modefied HP380 Storage servers with arrays of HP7870 GPUs

How many?  That's a bit direct!  How much Money do you have?

Solo is still ok if you are a small miner.  40MH/s should find a block every ~2.5 days.  But you don't pay any fees to anyone when solo, you don't have to put your trust in anyone, and you get to keep the transaction fees and any mined uncles (uncles = 3.75 etc)

Hi, I have a dumb question. I've been mining coins since 2014 as a hobby, and was wondering if someone could explain to me what the "difficulty bomb" is for ETC Classic?  Does this mean that the difficulty today is the same as ETH if you were mining both coins at the same time right now?  If this is the case, (from a miners prospective), how could you make any profit since ETC is at ~$1.3 vs ~$12.2ETH with the same diff.  Or am I just using a crappy miner for ETC?  Thanks for any feed back, and a simple explanation!...Tuppy Cheesy

A dumb question is a question that was never asked, so good you asked.

So the bomb...  in a nutshell,  ...code that will make the mining Difficulty increase exponentially.
A graph of such a Difficulty rate would appear not as a straight line, but as a curve that continually became steeper and steeper until no more blocks were generated and the blockchain stops.

It was put there by EF to make mining imposable by somtime next year.  This will force users onto ETH's Proof of Stake algo and thus retire all the miners from their duties of keeping a secure chain.

ECT and ETH both have the bomb.  ECT can either defuse it or use it to persuade users to go onto a new algo.

ETC hashrate is ~1/10 of ETH
ETC price is ~1/10 of ETH
ETC Difficulty is ~1/10 of ETH (that is why Solo mining is still viable on ETC)

The bomb effects both chains.

Hi everyone,

Participating in the Ethereum Classic community over the last 6 weeks has been extremely rewarding and I am very happy to be a small part of the progress that has been made so far. I'm pleased to announce that IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong) has generously committed resources for me to assist in the growth the Ethereum Classic community. Responding to challenging situations will require a strong community management campaign and I am honored to assist the Ethereum Classic community in their endeavors. The campaign will be comprised of various active and reactive strategies. Active strategies will engage current community connections and seek out new prospects, while reactive strategies will address negativity or other external stimuli in order to keep a positive image of the community intact.

A few strategies that the campaign will focus on.

General campaign strategy and planning.
Collaborating with current community/team members.
Organization and promotion of meetup groups.
Inform the [Suspicious link removed]munity and general public about Ethereum Classic.
Strong, cohesive social media campaign.
Social media content.
Responding to and assisting current community members.
Engaging with new community connections.
Researching opportunities to make new connections.
Analytics of past content.
Analyzing efforts that have been the most successful.
Analyzing efforts that have been the least successful.
Building visibility and credibility.

Very nice and Good Job.

Thank you Carlo, It's good to see someone more involved in ETC posting here, this has been a very popular thread and was quick thinking from bitpop (OP).  I have helped keep this thread going over the last few weeks and have tried to collate information for people for no other reason than I have an invested interest in this coin (both time and money).

However, I am a miner.  I mine coin and trade them on Bittrex or Shapeshift.  I have to sell 70% of the coin that I mine to pay for Electricity, the remainder is for investment.  Moreover, I like to become familiar with the latest tech,
I'm currently mining Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum Classic, Ethereum, Groestlcoin, Burst, Viacoin, Doge and Namecoin.
Soon I will replace Groestlcoin with Monero once I have my head around the wallets and best pools for my size CPUs or whether to mine it solo even. I will set up a node and a light client and mine some and then send it back and forth and have a play as i try to do with all the top coins. However, I will keep Groestlcoin, (as i do with others like feathercoin) ready to run if the market decides it has legs.

I have give Ethereum Classic disproportionate attention of late, most probably in protest over the way the Ethereum Foundation tried to redefine crypto.  That said, no regrets choosing to type
Code:
--oppose-dao-fork
at #1920000

But now I have to get back to work on othe coins like Burst and Monero.  Although considered unprofessional, I feel it's ok to get emotional over a coin when it has the ability to change the landscape for the better. ETC has already done that and will be an important player in the future of crypto. I am sure this coin will go far so I keep some of my money in ETC / BTC, as well as gold and cash.

Each coin has its own “Unique Selling Point” (USP) but Burst will be the one to watch in my opinion because it has all of the other coins USP's... all in one coin.  And it is the coin that apeals to the most amount of people that will go forward.   PoC is the future because it is very energy efficant so very few running cost / overheads.

I hope that Ethereum Classic will one day integrate a PoC,PoW,PoS hybrid algorithm because it is inclusive and will attract more people.
I hope ETC make a coin mixer.  I like anonymity!  Cash is anonyms.  Crypro should be able to do what Cash does and more.  I can put a £50 note in an envelope and send it by Air-mail to my friend in India and no one knows about it.  I don't like how people can see your balance when you give them a wallet address. This is not the way it is done in cash.
Burst got around this by having their explorer only able to search for your wallet from your Account ID number and not from your Wallet Address. So you can make your wallet address public but then choose who has access to your Account ID number. Your coins are still safe because you keep your wallet keys and passphrase private.

I will continue to support and post as i have high hopes for ETC and look forward to the next 12 months.
You have to remember this coin is very young, has a massive pre-mined legacy, has inherited a toxic brand name, has resisted many attacks, and had no pre-launch promotion... yet it is still here and on an upward trend. Cool!

Keep up the good work people.  Ethereum Classic to the moon   Cheesy

Is it possible to realistically solo mine this coin with your cpu? If so, can you do it through the wallet?

Not with a cpu, but with a gpu card possibly.  But you realistically need a lot of MHs to get lucky when solo mining.  For small scale mining your better off using a pool and even then you really need to use GPU's to get enough hash rate.

Thanks for the reply. I know this isn't the best place to ask you this, but I might as well go ahead... do you know of any cpu altcoins that would be suitable for solo mining?

Thanks

Monero?  That is CPU mine-able

I didn't figure there would be any way to have enough hash power with a CPU to be effective.  I stand corrected! LOL  Thanks for the feedback @greenuser.

It only takes one hash to solve a block, just run without "-G" in your argument.  CPUs don't use loads of power and if you run software like "System Explorer 7.1.0.5" by Mister Group you can set "affinity", i.e. you can set to run on as many or as few cores as you choose.  Have one core solo mining on a 4 core machine while you do other stuff, why not?

As i say you may have some wait but you may get lucy

YES you can SOLO CPU mine both ethereum and ethereum classic (just not at the same time)
you have to run the full node (geth).

Follow this guide
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/guides/how-to-mine-ethereum/

If you use the ETH "geth" you will mine ETH. DO NOT RUN BOTH.
If you have had ETH node on your machine before you will need to make a coppy of your "keys" and delete the ethereum folder in user/AppData/Roming

If you use the ETC geth you will mine ETC
Get etc geth here: "ETC geth node 1.4.10" requires no additional flags to use the Ethereum Classic network.
https://github.com/ethereumproject/go-ethereum/releases/tag/6aaf5f3
So NO NEED start your geth as in Step 7 of the above guide with the param
Code:
--oppose-dao-fork

Just rename "geth-windows-4.0-amd64.exe" to "geth.exe" once downloaded and unpacked

Follow the guide step by step and you will be mining SOLO, with your CPU.

One you have the mining up and running with "geth", install the GUI browser to make the "geth" wallet more userfriendly.

Good luck, i solved my first solo block via CPU.  You may wait a long time or you may get one just like that.

Very impressive.  So much so i had to repost,  Wink  I have been watching this project for some time and have been dusting off old HHDs for a week or two.  It looks like i got round to doing this just in time.  I look forward to seeing a mixer!  And so much to learn here.

Well i've just started mining with 500GB at pool.burstcoin.eu for a tester.  I added 5 x 136GB drives to my GPU mining rig, the additional power consumption is negligible.    Raspberry Pi and a HHD array may be the way to go in rig building.
When will i expect to see my first mined burstcoins in my nice slick GUI wallet?  Grin

It all depends on the luck of your pool. The eu pool doesn't find blocks as often as the others most of the time, but that's okay, when you do get a payout it is likely to be a larger one. People may argue that smaller pools are 'better', but you end up with the same average either way.

I'd recommend staying on the smaller pool and just giving it a little time Smiley

I like 5 to 15% of network in a pool.  Decentralization is the key!  Do you have a URL to a resource displaying pool distribution like this http://etherx.com/pools/ but for 3urst?

Hats off to Charles et al, the first PoS-based blockchain protocol that has
rigorous security analysis. Not the easiest read but arguably a breakthrough publication.
This should pull a green candle  Smiley

How soon, and at what ratio to PoW will we expect to see in this integrated into a new hybrid algorithm?

Wow what a day 3urst has had.  I am new to 3urst, i installed the wallet last week and had a play sending some burst around to different wallets across different machines to get a feel.  It's not the easiest node/wallet to set up and lots of different videos and "HOW-TOs" that are all a little different in direction but i got there in the end.

I bought a bunch more 3urst last night waiting for my drives to plot.  Smiley  So glad i did!

So, you got smart contract and messaging and a load of financial derivatives to come no less?  Any plans on a mixer/tumbler, or will that be left to third parties?

I'm waiting for my last drive to plot and can't wait to hit the "start mining" button.

PoC is the future people, PoC is the future, it just makes the other algos look like a waste of precious resource.

Just thinking outside the box but, would it be possible to plot a DVD RW disc?

We have much more than messaging and financial derivatives... P2P worldwide marketplace, asset exchange, smart contracts, hdd mining, encrypted messaging, decentralized lottery, decentralized automated bidding system (in testing phases), decentralized automated advertisement system (in development), wallet alias system for naming wallets and registering blockchain based domains on the BURST chain. MUCH MORE.

Also, yes, we do have a 'tumbler' that was made a while back, just can't recall if it was ever actually launched or not, a community member paid a million BURST bounty for it to be created and vbcs did create it.

I will reach out to him and see if he's still got the code lying around, and I'll launch that.

Anything is possible with Smart Contracts, and that is how the mixer AT was built. Thanks!

Great day for BURST, great day indeed!

I don't expect much less to happen in the future, the price is undervalued until over 1000 satoshi IMO. Which I do believe we should come close to at least by the end of the year.

Within the next year, you can expect much higher...

Also, in development is a decentralized trade portal (decentralized exchange) and two new algorithms that will be used in our sister project QORA and QORA 2.0.

QORA has decentralized web hosting, and in 2.0 it will have a totally new mining style that is low-powered like BURST, and opens up the market for buying and selling of mining accounts. It will also have a decentralized file storage node system, fully encrypted and randomized so that no person can see the data and/or get in trouble for hosting illegal content, aside from the person who put the illegal content there. Placing the responsibility on the people, as it should be.

All of this on a system that will be viable to be mined on phones, tablets, raspberry pi's, etc. This is all to come. Stay tuned to BURST/QORA and BURSTKORE team projects. Multiple new companies in formation as well. Exciting times ahead!

Also, feel free to join us at https://alttech.chat - our custom slack-like chat (with no message limits) the place for BURST, QORA, and the Federated Blockchain initiative communications.

Have a great day BURST community! Here's to BY FAR the best and most helpful community in crypto! Cheers!

Note For Traders

Only invest what you can afford to loose.  Remember, bubbles can pop!
Don't trade on emotion, only on mathematical theory / systems.
Do your “due diligence” research, research, research. (Is the commodity experimental?)
Spread your investment over a number of coins to “hedge your bets”
Think of going “short” to protect yourself from potential losses.
Do not trade with a loaded gun and a bottle of spirits/hard liquor in the room.
Crypto is high risk, have you tried gold or silver trading? forex even?
Ethereum Classic is a long term investment, look for quick returns elsewhere!

Some very interesting points made by Charles.  A rebrand looks inevitable.

But he is correct, "Overall, it's been a great two months!"

"Action packed" i would say.  I can't wait to see the movie.   Cheesy

I was thinking if we had to change our name... we could use

Aetherum Classic as a name.

We could use Aether as the unit of currency with awei, aszabo, afinney as subdivisions

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aether

hi green,
i dont think we need or should rebrand.

some thoughts on it
if you sell someting with a brand on it like Ethereum was done you cant sue the buyer for using the brand.

i bought my ethereum and ethereum classic was a gift from ethereum foundation beccouse of the fork.
so how could they by any means sue anyone for trademark?
i cant see a case there .
its like microsoft  sais now o i dont like windows xp anymore i hate it i want it to die and therefor i forbit every one to use my trademark windows on it ....
i read what charles said there about investors .... microsoft got investors and they had a lot of open ends legali as i recall.
if you get bigger you always get sued for plagiat or what ever.
i wonder how the founding will be done in etc .... via donation ? fees ? do you have an idea about what is planed ?

and the goverance ?

Just testing the water roselee, sticking an "A" before everything is a quick fix if we need to.
136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: September 12, 2016, 09:16:54 AM
I was suggesting today that it might be a good idea to kick the can down the road on the bomb just to force the dev team to come back to the table in 2018 to address the "next gen" of ETC whatever that turns out to be.  Otherwise my fear is they are going to HF to diffuse the bomb and then do nothing.  We will see the ASIC's come screaming in and then the real damage begins with ETC consolidating with fewer and fewer miners as all the power gets sucked into a few select locations with cheap costs and cheap electricity.

I don't know that they will take my suggestion seriously, but it might be to our benefit to prolong the bomb just to make sure that they have to address a hybrid implementation or how to address the ASIC's that will have already come to market probably by the summer time next year.

if you read yesterday mornings #general Slack you will see i kicked of about lack of roadmap and the disconnect between devs and the public.  I was a lone voice so they don't see a problem.  Go back and read the slack.  I managed to get some chat going with one of the devs but not sure if there was an attempt to appease me.  But if more people bang on about it they will take notice.  I think that currently they are surrounded buy a small group who tell them they are wonderful.  Go ask them for a roadmap.  See waht happens.

I don't think they understand that mining etc was a protest....
I was'nt mining ethereum when the fork happened.  I was mining feathercoin. I switched to mining old ethereum at block #1920000 because of how the fork was implemented.  I had mined Ethereum  previously, from March up to one week before the Dao attack.  I stopped mining it one week before the Dao attack due to the arrogance of the foundation and because any post i made that questioned what they were doing were removed from their forum.

I suggested in some previous chats that we could look at a coin like Verge which has gone to a multi algo to address the ASIC's and make the diff higher on ASIC enabled algo's, but they also mine other algo's on the same coin on x15 and x17 if I recall correctly.  So there are ways to address the ASIC threat and keep POW in the picture.  Of course POC I think is very interesting and should be investigated as a serious contender.  That would put a lot of new miners in the mix and change the cost and energy dynamics completely.

I am currently piloting an array of HHDs to mine Burst.  Sorting out the wallet and full node took some time as you have to send and receive Burst to make it active.  However, there is a light wallet and a phone wallet if you are into pool mining.  They have a cool messaging system too where you can include text with payments.  Once set up it's very slick and easy to use.  Nice GUI with loads of info.  It makes Mist look dated.  Also looks like smart contracts will soon be available.

BUT, I don't think anything will happen if they defuse the bomb and are not required to come back to the table to work the issues.  So I am hoping that they will review the roadmap and agree that by 2018 we should be ready to do something for the next gen of ETC and we should re-time the bomb for 2018 to ensure that there is forward momentum.  So that is kinda my though process on this, but I am just a fly on the wall here...
Go speak your mind, go ask for a roadmap.  How can people invest if they are in the dark?  I am a lone voice among 1000 wanabe devs when i ask.

Leaving the bomb in the chain gives leverage.  If ETC Devs release a fork date to go to a hybrid algo, what will stop miners from refusing to run the new geth?  Forking potentially causes two chains. Leaving the bomb ticking means this chain will eventually die.
EF gauged it wrong.  They forked way too early.  There's still time in this chain to get a Dev team together and fork away,. like what is happening now. Maybe the players in this game want to be sure everyone will fork to a new chain.  You don't want to leave copies of the world computer kicking around for just anyone to use. Do you?

Maybe they will just take the bomb out, who knows, interesting reading here

I know this is asked a lot, but what happens when ETC is forked? Is there plans for when ETHEREUM is ready for PoS?

I believe the original ETHEREUM roadmap had plans for multiple forks in the original plans. Or perhaps I am mistaken?

We will also need to fork at some point but i don't see Ethereum Classic publising a roadmap anytime soon.  Most of the developers are in cells around the world with each cell all working on their own roadmap.  Consensious will have to happen at some point.

The current responce seems to be, "A roadmap is just an open presentation of goals and things that will be worked on to achieve those goals over time."

https://blog.bity.com/2016/09/06/whitehat-withdrawal-contract-final-deposit-is-available/

The DarkDAO attacker withdrew 3.64 million ETC on September 6th 00:02 CET.
The funds are now located inside this address 0x5e8f0e63e7614c47079a41ad4c37be7def06df5a. At the time of writing most of the funds are intact except for 1,000 ETC the attacker donated to an address associated with ETC development. The WHG kindly ask that the recipient of these funds deposit the 1000 ETC to the withdraw contract so it can be distributed to its rightful owners.

DO NOT FORGET CODE IS LAW

We are not law enforcement or police and first of all we believe he is not hacker or attacker but very talented person who kindly helped us find bug in the system and should be awarded for this not punished!

who is we ?
ETC community, is it not? Than me! If this is not what ETC community feels like so my mistake and I should not be here. I was mislead to think like it.

You and I have similar feelings. So atleast one person shares your position.

Thanks good to hear this, but any way I do not look for friends here Wink I have my strong opinion and I disagree with some things on ETC webside.
If you make mistake and leave your wallet on public bench in public open park do not expect no one take your wallet and not necessary this person is thief or crook. Those DAO coders made mistake and they should pay the price but they blamed that person who executed their own code! This is sick that DAO and EF are the same people that is why we need human free solutions! That is why we need a code, perfect code.
Imo code in blockchain is the same as in smart contract. No person, justice system, court is perfect and will never be but code can and will be perfect. This is just mater of time. We need to keep improving that code till gets perfect. After that we dont need trust any imperfect human. In blockchain and in smart contracts we tying replace humans with code.

I agree, however we are at the frontier of this process. I am also hopeful that code can one day run an autonomous governance system within an organisation.

But firstly, there needs to be a way....
where those that don't want to invest in a "leave your wallet on public bench in public open park" kinda investment
don't get their assets trashed when the inevitable happens.
