121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hacking KNC Neptune / Jupiter / Titan miners back to life. Why not? on: January 30, 2016, 08:36:11 PM
The second one is a bit more interesting. Try going to -.0366 or so and 50mh on the chip. Watch to see if the supplies turn on for awhile then turn off or start at 0 volts. Also check the heat sink connection, and if there is junk/crap all over the power supplies especially the ones on the sides.

Will have a play on Monday when I'm at the location my machine is at and let you know.

Question, on ASIC 4 DIE 1 ... does that DCDC work fine after a power cycle? or is it permanently like that?
Also, due to only having one DCDC powering the ASIC I would suggest lowering voltage a bit more or lowering ur clock, that remaining DCDC is pumping over 46A which is way beyond spec for these DCDC's ... 43A is bout the max I would recommend for longevity. My upcoming firmware will attempt to power cycle the DCDC's to bring back the DCDC 1 thats messed up ... so in ur case if its permanently damaged u may have to turn off that ASIC entirely w/ my upcoming firmware release to prevent constant bfgminer restarts.

ASIC 5 DIE 2, I Theorize the voltage is a higher because there is barely any load on the DCDC's at that clock setting...compared to the load of a normal ASIC clock setting.

Re Asic 4: All the dies that do that have been like that since I got the machine. I have tried lowering voltages/speeds but it doesn't seem to make any difference to the Amps so just settled on the compromise of slightly over.  Server room is air conditioned so not really worried about temps and has probably helped to keep them going.

I intend to do as above and mess around with them all on Monday to see if any of the ones I currently have off can be brought back to life through your firmware.

Thanks to you both Smiley

Further to my post a few pages ago, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1283859.msg13519222#msg13519222

I turned my machine off shortly after as wasn't really profitable to run anymore in the UK, but the recent spike in rates on nicehash brought it back to life, after talking with GenTarkin I bought his custom firmware and it did cure the problem.

Here are a couple of other problems that my machine has, I'm sure you've come across them already but just for info in case you haven't

Asic 4, Die 1 (The Half Running Die)
I have quite a few of these across my 6 cubes, I presume this is just a faulty asic chip and nothing can be done

Asic 5, Die 2 (The Half Speed Die)
Have a couple of these as well, they will only run at much reduced speeds as the voltages are very high, these are a mystery and am curious on the problem.

I also sent in a request.  My personal favorite quote from submitting the request was "Someone will be in contact with you in less than 24 hours".  Roll Eyes

Try an email saying you have 10 million to spend, if (I'm sure when) they respond enquire about smaller quantities for a friend Smiley

Hm. Well, this is interesting.

So I fixed Titan #1 here and brought it online for testing. All 8 power supplies come up, all cores, hashied at 60mh with temps on the chip in the low 30's, power supplied averaging around 50c. Left it alone last night, checked in this morning.

Hash speed in the 40's. But under advanced tab I see that one of the power supplies is just *missing*. And the other had a current of zero, rhat's odd.... So I tried changing the voltage, applied changes, and quickly noticed that power supply 0 (the partner to the now missing supply 1) was trying to put out 50a to meet the chip need. Turned that to OFF *fast*, then turned it to a low 50mhz. Which it will supply:

....

Right back to normal.

This is an odd thing, and if it's something that happens to others I wonder if it is the source of the "bad die" issue. Is this what Tarkin's software fixes?

What concerns me on the side is that I was able to try and get that one remaining power supply to supply all the hashing power, that would blow up a supply quickly.

Thoughts? If this is known and Tarkin fixes it for $50 by turning off then on the errant supply pair then this is not an issue I will fiddle with.  (Running Titan 2.0 software on this particular system, no special hacks)

My titan has recently started doing the same eg...

This cube goes after a few hours, asic 3 follows suit not long after, and a couple of the others go after that.

Restarting or changing voltages/speeds does nothing, but if you power off and then back on it works as normal for a while

Sadly I'm not near my server room so rebooting is not something I can do very often, so I am also curious if gentarkins firmware can solve this, he used to have a test version, don't mind paying $50 if I know it will work but here in the UK the titan is nearing the end of it's profitability anyway.
125  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNCMiner Jupiter Support Files on: November 03, 2015, 01:56:15 PM
I was clearing out an old hard drive and found a load of knc firmware files, including the enablescores that you were looking for sorry.

I've edited my post above with direct links, but have done a folder with all the files in case any one else needs any of them in the future.

126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buy the profitable 60Mhs A2 Farm Boy LTC miners, replacing old Zesu on: September 11, 2015, 08:42:07 AM

3. As daily LTC coins reduced by half, we are making reasonable number of A2 miners during the next couple of months just to replace all obsolete hashing contribution from Zesu and KNC alike.

How do you figure the KNC Titan is obsolete ?

Yours: 60MH, 590w, 1MH/w
Titan: 380MH, 1300w, 3.4MH/w

Titan is significantly better

Do you have some links about KNC 16nm miners? As far I know TSMC have not produced these chips for bitcoin miners yet. KNC are talking about these chips since the end of 2014, but it's just PR.
To my mind KNC has upgraded their 28nm miners like Bitmain, but I don't have any proofs & links.

Only from KNC themselves

I had figured they shut them down a long while ago when they could replace them with the S5's when they came out.  Why run S2's when you can run more efficient machines using smaller spaces?  They probably just stored them all in a corner of the facility and let the newer machines mine for the older hash assets.

Indeed, which was also another nice revenue stream for them given the difference in maintenance rates. Not that there is anything wrong with this, people bought at at the advertised rate.

You should emphasise the fact that the case is biodegradable, that's a definate selling point in these eco friendly times Smiley

130  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] CryptoCircuits Signature Campaign - Earn up to 0.15 BTC for 50 posts! on: September 03, 2015, 10:43:18 AM
Received my payment as well thanks.

Please advise as soon as poss if you are continuing, would like to stay as a monthly campaign like yours is good for me as I'm often away for a few days and only tend to post when I have something constructive to say.
131  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] CryptoCircuits Signature Campaign - Earn up to 0.15 BTC for 50 posts! on: September 02, 2015, 08:19:52 AM
With regards to the rates on this for legendary account holders is this max 50 post cut off for the month or  0.15 per 50 posts so if done say 100 in month would be 0.3 and so on?

It's just a fixed price.

You need to make at least 50 posts in the month to get paid the 0.15, less posts you get nothing, more posts no extra.

A lot of us here are not mine owners, rather home miners mostly for fun. So your point doesn't make sense to me.

I'm trying really hard, but I don't see any "fun" aspect. Unbox, plug and play and time to time click broswe and upload new firmware..this is what you are calling "fun"?

if yes, you really don't know what "fun" for geeks is, but believe or not, it is not overpriced noisy box from China and you don't need to invest 2k USD to enjoy it, really.

Fun stuff would be cheap things like sidehacks USB sticks, whilst they are unlikely to ROI you can use them as a lottery ticket and solo mine, but I agree 2k for fun is not for me.

Real fun vanished at the end of the GPU era, so many combinations of things to try fancy rigs to be built and new firmwares and bios and drivers, and all the associated tweaking of clock speeds and voltages trying to get the most from every type of card.

I think we are just to old in the BTC game Smiley

Anybody have any coupons they want to donate I have 1200 usd saved up for the s7 I am $700.00 usd short "SHIPPING" on the s7 I need about 7 coupons I am poor anything helps.

If there $100.00 dollar coupons.

That won't help, you can only use 1 coupon per machine.

There are others, but as their largest affiliate by quite a way I'm more likely to make noise than someone owed $100 who's forgotten about it. They also pulled the terms changing twice on me and less likely anyone else as I joined from day 0.

Hedgy (hi fella hope you are good !!) is slightly different as he chose the hardware credit initially and wanted to change to cash, I can sort of understand SP's position on that, but it gets murky when they have no stock left to use it on then they really should have settled up in BTC.

I had the same issue with my voucher when the SP30 was under spec, I was sure I was going to buy another from them but my available power, lack of stock or price all conspired against me at various points.  In the end I had to sell my voucher for 50% of face value which was a big hit, but that's my own fault should have taken the cash when it was first offered Smiley

my crystal ball sees a $200-250 price reduction with a hefty coupon for early orders, unless BTC goes to 350 shortly.

If bitmain were only selling miners then the laws of supply and demand would apply.

Unfortunately the bulk of their income probably comes from bulk purchasers who will get a better price and for use in their own farm.

I suspect 'home miners' are probably a small part of their sales, and a big part of their workload so attracts a hefty premium.  Previous machines haven't seen any drastic price cuts so I don't think it's likely to happen, at least not to the point where it changes the ROI calculation dramatically enough for a surge in sales.

Your ROI calculation once again doesn't take the halving in 2016 into account.  Nor the halving in 2020.  Nor 2024, 2028, 2032... Wink

I figured 193 years on 20c power was enough detail, but I can factor those in if you want Smiley

I don't know the other side of the story. I am judging by what is posted here and for the moment it seems that only dogie is complaining. Do you know the other side? You don't, but it seems that you made your judgement already without hearing the other side story.

I'm judging by what is posted here too, the fact that only dogie is complaining about not receiving his commision tends to suggest that he's the only one this has happened too.  Therefore its not a huge leap to assume that this may be personal based on the previous relationship.  Note that I said assume, I haven't made my mind up and Guy is welcome to join in and post the other side of the story.
