1281  Other / Meta / Re: Reporting copy and paste without cross checking the date and time on: October 21, 2018, 07:15:25 AM
How about cross-checking the site itself? Swiftcointalk consists (almost?) entirely of posts by the administrator, which are all plagiarised from other sources.
1282  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China Launching an Artificial Moon on: October 20, 2018, 04:53:40 AM
Firstly, there is no way you can have a geosynchronous orbit at 500km. At 500km above Earth's surface, as the article states, your orbital period is in the region of an hour and a half, meaning this satellite would orbit the Earth 15-16 times a day.
Nobody said anything about a synchronous orbit, or even a singular satellite. The plan actually involves a constellation of multiple satellites.

Secondly, street lights at night already play havoc with the local wildlife. Sea turtle hatchlings for example - their instinct is to follow the brightest light to reach the sea, which used to be the moon reflecting off the water. Now many of them die because instead they wander towards the towns and cities. Something like this could have devastating effects on the ecosystem.
The problem with streetlights (indeed, most artificial lighting) is that their light is omnidirectional. Since these satellites are mirrors reflecting sunlight in a narrow beam, they won't be visible at all outside the intended area of illumination.

I mean, it's still a crazy idea, but not quite as crazy as one might expect for something conceived of by a Bond villain.
1283  Other / Off-topic / Re: most important substance/assest on earth. on: October 19, 2018, 03:41:15 PM
I know this is just a spam thread, but I simply must take the opportunity to expound upon the benefits of oxidane. This much-maligned industrial chemical is literally the most important substance on Earth. Virtually every industry uses oxidane in some capacity; indeed, it is no exaggeration to say that without oxidane, life as we know it would be impossible. Unfortunately, 97.5% of the world's natural deposits of oxidane are too heavily contaminated with impurities to be industrially or commercially useful. It is therefore critical that governments employ all practical measures to secure our oxidane supply infrastructure. This should be our top priority as a society.

This message brought to you by our friends at the Oxidane Foundation.
1284  Other / Meta / Re: Cloudflare issue. Is this a bug on: October 19, 2018, 08:52:07 AM
It redirects based on your HTTP Referrer header. If your browser doesn't send one (usually because you're using a privacy-enhancing plugin that blocks it), you get dumped onto the home page. All Cloudflare redirects work this way because they haven't figured out that the best way to send the redirection target is as a query parameter. Roll Eyes

Even aspirin?
1286  Other / Meta / Re: Percentage of Merit received on old posts, deleted posts, and average per post on: October 17, 2018, 11:43:21 AM
Do me! And, if it's not too much to ask, the members of the Vulpine Order of Merit whom you haven't already done or are going to do (Jet Cash, achow101, gmaxwell, and o_e_l_e_o). I'm interested to know if my high expectations for the Order are justified.
1287  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: This piece of information got me confused on: October 14, 2018, 04:16:54 AM
It's explained in the very next sentence. "When several nodes all have the same blocks in their block chain, they are considered to be in consensus." Blocks that are not validated by nodes are not part of the consensus blockchain. Full nodes do store the entire blockchain, to the extent that it consists entirely of validated blocks, at the exclusion of all invalid blocks (which are not part of the blockchain and never will be, despite what some people seem to think).
1288  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a Uniform Code of Bitcointalk Justice where user's lose rank? on: October 13, 2018, 04:19:29 AM
Posts that violate the rules may be deleted, along with the associated activity points. If in this way a user's activity is reduced below the minimum required for their rank, they will automatically lose that rank as well. In fact if you lurk in Meta enough you'll see the occasional spammer complaining that they've lost rank after having their posts deleted, though not nearly as many as those complaining that they've been banned outright.

I pick the Mystery Box!

A risky choice, since it contains an all-enveloping deadly mist! (Open with care.)

The latest development from the Monsanto company, this versatile product is guaranteed to kill insects, vermin, glyphosate-resistant weeds, figs, and certain strains of the common cold virus. It is slightly less guaranteed to be harmless to humans and other large mammals. Use only in a well-ventilated area. Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or trying to get others pregnant. Deadly mist is derived from 100% natural and organic plant-based toxins.

Now who will be the first to get a bar added to his VOM award
Hilariousetc is getting very close! Grin

An Error Has Occurred!
You can only send 50 merit to a given user per 30 days. You have already sent 49 merit to that user.

I am going to take a wild guess here and predict that the next member will be a legendary one that does not actually need your merit...

You lose! The sixth member of the Vulpine Order of Merit (and the second non-Legendary one) is o_e_l_e_o!

One of the few sane people in the asylum that is Politics & Society, valiantly struggling to stem the tide of ignorance, stupidity, and downright craziness that flows so freely there. Such efforts deserve to be rewarded, even if they are ultimately futile, which is why o_e_l_e_o is no longer a mere Senior Member; the illustrious title of Member of the Vulpine Order of Merit precedes that rank.

You know what to do!

But EDTA and cilantro remove heavy metals - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3654245/.

     Cool
Yes, real medicine can often cure the problems caused by fake medicine, but that doesn't make using fake medicine a good idea, any more than the existence of antivenom makes snake handing a good idea.
1292  Other / Meta / Re: why my post desapear?? on: October 08, 2018, 06:16:41 AM
Read the rules. Begging isn't allowed.
It is sad (but somehow not surprising) that your 20,000th post would be "read the rules". Is this what this forum has come to? Undecided
1293  Other / Meta / Re: account ban - Please active my account - It lot's for my life on: October 07, 2018, 04:22:56 PM
Please don't stop this my earning source.
"Earning" means you work for a living. But you don't. You steal the work of others that you may be paid without having to work yourself. Stealing is a bad way to make a living, partly for legal and ethical reasons, but mostly because you will eventually get caught and lose everything you have gained, and you'll get no sympathy from anyone when you do. Let this be an expensive lesson for you.
1294  Other / Meta / Re: My Full Member account has been disallowed from posting on the forum on: October 07, 2018, 01:14:33 PM
I feel like a kid who stole a candy bar and 10 years later he gets sentenced to life in prison
Don't be ridiculous. Since you didn't steal something as valuable as a candy bar, but merely another person's copyrighted work, the maximum penalty (in the US, where this forum is based) is only 5 years in prison. And a $250,000 fine. Given that posts on this forum are monetised, it's probably only a matter of time before people actually start suing for commercial copyright infringement. Maybe they already have, but theymos is just keeping quiet about all the subpoenas.

Everyone makes mistakes and I feel like this is a very harsh sentence.
Most people's mistakes don't result in a violation of international law. A permanent ban is actually a very light sentence, but one that should be sufficient to cause you to re-evaluate the choices that led you to persue a life of crime. Undecided
1295  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mysterious Japanese Letters...what could they mean? on: October 05, 2018, 11:58:15 AM
I think す (su) means "to do", and 横浜 (よこはま, yokohama) means "Yokohama". Do Yokohama.

What's wrong with powdered alcohol?
Same as what's wrong with plutonium-powered cars: the technology is sound, but the social consequences are not. In much the same way as it would be somewhat undesirable for terrorists to be able to purchase plutonium at AutoZone, there are certain people who might find that powdered alcohol is more usefully added to other people's drinks than their own.

Plagiarism:

I think it is better to hold btc rather than bch, because talking about popularity and safety, it is better all the time to hold bitcoin. Although bch is also a good crypto coin but the comparison is much far from each status as a part of cryptocurrency coin. Bitcoin is a very popular coin, and it is the top coin of all cryptocurrency coins, so the better coin we holds it will also returns of better income.

i see everything as blurry ... please note this is not a medical condition.
Seeing everything as blurry is a medical condition; it's called blindness. You should consult an ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis and treatment, as your self-diagnosis seems to be... not entirely grounded in known medical theories of vision disorders.
