1281  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox AML/KYC Process Explained on: June 08, 2012, 06:58:49 PM
SADLY?  WTH???

Should I read "sadly" and "it would be a great income stream" to mean that the second you find a legal loophole, out the door goes my personal information? These aren't just email addresses and names and physical addresses. These are SS#s, DL #s, etc.

That was a pretty unnerving thing to hear.

I think it was sarcasm.
1282  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do you use Bitcoins? on: June 08, 2012, 06:08:59 PM
its incredibly easy to understand and to use, for a computer geek like me. it's open source, it has a RPC, its easy modifiable.
and i own bitcoins i have, and its up to me to protect them, and how to do so.
bank are just technically shit compared to bitcoin.
1283  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Would this improve anonimity and reduce (somewhat) blockchain data overhead? on: June 08, 2012, 04:51:07 PM
Suppose I send x bitcoins from A to P, and someone else sends y bitcoins from B to Q.

This could also be done in a single transaction, sending x+y bitcoins from A & B, with two outputs, x to P and y to Q. Or am I mistaken here?

(well, if I understood correctly, technically you don't just send x bitcoins from A to P, but you send all bitcoins from A to two outputs: x to P and the remainer (change) back to A or another address that belongs to the same owner as A)

The thing with Bitcoin anonimity is, if you see two or more addresses together at the input side of a transaction, you can assume they're in the same wallet, thus having the same owner.

If the above 'transaction combining' would be applied randomly on transactions that were initially unrelated, this assumption could no longer be made.

However, I don't know if this is possible at all? If a node confirms the transactions, could it decide to combine them, merging two transaction into a single new one? Or is this impossible without making the transaction invalid? (I'm not 100% familiar with the exact transactions protocol specs and the way they're signed and confirmed - obviously a node does have the signature of A en B to send x and y bitcoins to P and Q, respectively)

yes it is possible.

BUT, you can not modify a transaction, so a random node in the network could not merge two transaction. for this to work both senders should corporate, but not necessarily trust eachother.

Ok, well, here's where you should send my coins:

16pDN85h2aVq7oRMw4pt9kvstmYL4Qscbz

K, thnx.

Just send everything to the email verify@bitcoinica.com.

At least I keep all copies of the email securely. Also I have indexes so it's easy and fast to search all the claim emails.
...and you think we believe that!

1286  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox AML/KYC Process Explained on: June 08, 2012, 12:35:03 PM
Those of you saying I should STFU, I have a question:

If my comments aren't the truth, why are you so pissed about them, can't you just ignore me? Or does it hurt too much to be faced with the facts of reality for you to be able to do so?

I know, I know, cognitive dissonance is a bitch.  Roll Eyes
i like to live in my truth-free but happy little world.

(congratulation you just won a click on the ignore button)
1287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox AML/KYC Process Explained on: June 08, 2012, 12:08:38 PM
Why do AML/KYC?

Mt.Gox handles both Bitcoin and fiat currency (Dollars, Euros, etc.) As a result, we are bound by the laws of Japan and America, along with various international regulations which cover the fiat side of our business. Very similar to how a bank in most countries must be regulated to ensure they are not facilitating money laundering, terrorist financing or the like, we are obliged to follow the same rules.

Oh please enough with the state propaganda bullshit.

Why don't you tell it like it really is. You are not obliged, you are forced under threat of violence to gather information about your customers so that governments around the world can control what your customer's money is being used for. "Money laundering, terrorist financing or the like" are victimless crimes the state invented as a way to gain even more control over the people they assert their rule over.

You can't imagine the angry thoughts that go through my mind when I read bs propaganda like this, I'm pretty sure if they already tried to attack people for thought crime I'd get the capital punishment.  Angry
You can't imagine the angry thoughts that go through my mind when I read this bullshit libertarian and anarchistic off-topic propaganda.
just because you a little afraid kid, paranoid about the big bad government, that is actually trying to make you safe and comfortable, you don't have to spray your fuck system shit around this forum at all time.
1288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 07, 2012, 06:08:08 PM
As a dedicated, encrypted and hardware locked device, the Ellet is safe from hacking, malware, and even if stolen, cannot be used to take your money.
do you even self believe that? Anything, can be hacked. I don't care about nice and funky hardware features: it will be broken, FAST.

I believe it, its very feasible to have Ellet device not store anything at all and still be able to send bitcoins. Thus in the event of a stolen ellet device there is nothing on it to steal. The wallet seed could be stored by some other means(laminated paper, manually typing it in, or inserting and SD card, etc) and when the ellet device user is ready to send they load it up(This level of security is obviously for only people that hold alot of BTC in their device and/or use it for business transactions)
nothing on it -> can't make ecdsa signatures -> can't send bitcoins.
something on it -> hackable/stealable/cheatable -> can send bitcoins.
seed-on-paper approach -> steal paper.

I signed up in early April before the official announcement was made. Thought it was a good idea to earn some interest on BTC, so I had no open positions whatsoever. If the company was long sold by then I critizise strongly that such mundane information as a fricking CHANGE OF OWNER was withheld from the customers for weeks if not months!!!
6 months, the company was secretly sold in November according to zhoutong.

I would say the take over happened in April. Before that, even though I didn't have any financial interest, I was still recognized as CEO and most of my actions were approved by Tihan. Because I had a lot of control, it is fair for me to take respective responsibilities.

However, after the take over, my control was "secretly" transferred to a bureaucratic team, without formal notice. Till today, no one knows my position at Bitcoinica and when it changed.
COULD YOU PLEASE TELL US THEN???

I don't even know myself. I only know that I'm still an employee.

I was not updated about the refunding for over 4 days, but I can magically access the fund account with all the customer deposits (at least 75% of total valid claims are in that account). I can't touch the money even though technically it's allowed.

On the other hand, I'll have to wait for updates and instructions like everyone else.
you have access!!!
Just send my 60-70btc to 19PKMheiAr2Lxm2YN67pTUpTmwTW96PGvF .
I think it's funny how you state a range like 60-70, shouldn't it be a bit more exact for a claim?
i had 80btc in my account, and a long 80btc@5.60-5.80, and i don't know the liquidation price.
so: about 60-70 btc.

lol trying to jump the line. Try not to be an idiot.
Im not jumping the line. I suggested that zhou got rid of the bureaucracy.
We have waited long enough, and im getting impatient.

1294  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: cbitcoin - Bitcoin implementation in C. Currently in development. on: June 06, 2012, 03:35:04 PM
If I had to write something in straight-C, I would use the D language.
if i had to use X, i would use something different and unrelated Y.

WTF? the reason for using C is that its simple, small and portable. which i suspect that D is not.

Anyone who writes C programs would do well to research the D language.

Ditto for C++, but for entirely different reasons.

D is the perfect replacement for both (each for different reasons.)

I have programmed C and C++ for over 20 years, everything from controller cards to Windows, to Linux, to Mac, to Android, and FreeBSD. (Do your own research, just giving my opinion. Take it for whatever it's worth.)

Language fanboy detected.

hey, if i had to write something in C, i would use python.

Personal announcement:

I'll officially resign from Bitcoinica immediately after they have returned at least 50% of total amount owed, or when they ask me to resign, whichever is earlier.

As promised before, before my resignation, I will assist all Bitcoinica customers who signed up under my management with their claims and communication with the company. And this will be my only involvement about Bitcoin-related projects.

My new project, NameTerrific, will accept Bitcoins after the public launch in August, most likely via the new Mt. Gox merchant platform. However, if PayPal or the merchant bank objects, credit card processing will remain a priority.
did i sign up under your management, i signed up before 21/11/11?

Genjix: how will positions be handled? have they been liquidated? when will they be liquidated? at what price?
1298  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: June 05, 2012, 02:57:14 PM
Please say something. The price this rebounding and some of us had long positions quite large, were closed a week ago? still open? Will be closed from the now with good benefits? will be ignored?
Each day that passes increases the net value of accounts retained ...

They said already... all positions were closed weeks ago.

Did they?  I've been following pretty closely and I don't remember seeing that..

Quote from: zhoutong link=topic=81045.msg897900#msg897900
Current positions will all be liquidated at a settlement price. We haven't decided the price yet, but my personal estimate is 4.98 / 4.94. (All long positions can liquidate at 4.98 and all short positions can liquidate at 4.94, we pay the spread for you.) All unrealized P/L will be settled in USD. If you don't have sufficient USD balance, we will use your BTC to settle, with the mid-point exchange rate (again, we pay the spread).

he also said that it was not decided yet, and it was unofficial information. and he didn't said that they did liquidate them yet.
1299  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: June 05, 2012, 10:30:47 AM
is the recent price action, caused by Tihan pumping money into bitcoin, to rebuy the bitcoin that were stolen?
1300  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: June 05, 2012, 08:37:53 AM
If you aren't aware yet, they have no way to know precisely who owns what.

wow... what a mess

they openly admitted to this fact?

yes but they stressed the "precisely" part, they only have some approximations, old backups, withdraw/deposit email they sent out, and stuff like that...
