Hi,

Is anyone able to help me out?  I purchased 2 of the S3's and bought the Enermax Triatholor ECO 550W 80 Plus Bronze PSU (one for each S3).  It says the DC output is +12V 42A 504W.  I hooked one PCI-e connector to one side of the machine and hooked up another PCI-e to the opposite side using only two of the four connections.  The machine never reaches over 330 - 340 GH/s.  Do I need to overclock this machine to reach the 478 GH/s, or do I need to buy a bigger PSU, or both?  If I need a bigger PSU which is recommended?

please post your miner status page

Here are my miner stats

Something is off with chain 2.  I've never seen that with the -o and it should be 16 not 32.  What happens if you swap the PCI-e connector?  If they chains swap info I'd say you have a PSU problem.  If they stay the same I would think it's the miner.

That one blade looks hosed.  Swap the PCI-e connecters as suggested and see what happens.  If the problems remain on the same blade (the second one in the GUI) then open it up and check the ribbon connectors to the blade boards and make sure they are all good.

Nobody has heard about this problem?

My S3 rings non-stop from the second I turn it on, to the second I turn it off.

I have read through the forum, I do not see this anywhere.

The other S3 states the temp of the one blade is 2C.  While the other is 44c.

I have had many machines before, s1's and s2, never had this issue before.

thanks

I had one ring non-stop.  I swapped the power cable to the PSU with a beefier one.  At the same time I also plugged it in to a different outlet. It stopped it.  The only reason I figured that out was because I was configuring them in one place and then moving them to another place to run.  When I moved them over to where they were going to run the one started making the non-stop beep.  Moved it back and forth and finally determined it was something about the place I was putting it but since I was moving the PSU also the only thing that was specific to that place was the cord and the wall outlet.  So there you go.

Not sure what to tell you about the temp sensor issue.

I fixed the x on the asic in the gui by removing the heatsink and reapplying thermal paste.  However I had the opposite issue others have reported.  There was not enough paste.  Looks like someone got a talking to about using too much and is now being too conservative.  There were large areas of pretty much every chip that had clearly not had any paste on them at all.  I applied paste with an exacto blade to all the chips on both blades and put it back together and now the x is gone.  I'm not sure the hashrate is any better though, still only doing about 430 but its only been a few minutes.

On the bright side it saved you the time of cleaning them up. That took a bit of time for me the other day. Hopefully they will get to 441 for you.

Aah I spoke too soon.  The x is back.  Same chip.

first what clock?

second what psu?

I tried OC on both but too many HW errors.  So they were both back to stock.  Since this one that had the x went to a - I tried OCing it again and it seems to work at 225 with zero HW but still can't even pull 430 hashrate.  These are both duds.

Forgot to mention the PSU.  Corsair CX750M.  One per miner.

did you re-flash the firmware it brought my 420 up to the 440's with stock setting?

I did.  I just edited a post above since I had 3 in a row and didn't want to make it 4.  These things take a lot longer than the S1's to settle into an average hash rate so it's hard to tell how a change does right away.  But I have to leave it as is for tonight since I am taking off.  It's at 225 and not throwing any HW in the first 6 minutes and the average hashrate is 440 at the moment so maybe this one will reach advertised rates.  Overall much less impressed by these than the S1.

Did you re-flash firmware?

Oh you know what, not on this one.  I did on the other one but it didn't seem to improve anything.  I can try it on this one.

EDIT: Flashed the firmware.  Still got a dash on that chip.  Have to watch and see what the hashrate does.  Still looks like its not doing any HW though at 225 freq.  Maybe that specific chip was throwing all the HW when I OC'd before.

So when you guys are removing the heatsink to clean it up, are you taking the blades out of the chasis first and and going after the inner heatsink?  I got two underperformers and one has a perpetual x on one of the chips in the gui so before I contact bitmain about these POS's I want to give that a shot.

The blue wire trick works same as on the S1's if you want to bring your temps down.

Really starting to hate UPS over here.  Angry

My packages are so awesome Chinese customs wanted a second look:

07/22/2014    9:40 A.M.    The package is awaiting clearing agency review. / The package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release.
Shenzhen, China    07/22/2014    7:10 P.M.    Departure Scan
   07/22/2014    3:35 P.M.    Export Scan
Shenzhen, China    07/21/2014    11:28 P.M.    Arrival Scan
   07/21/2014    11:20 P.M.    Departure Scan
   07/21/2014    10:05 P.M.    Origin Scan
   07/21/2014    8:42 P.M.    Pickup Scan
07/21/2014    7:06 A.M.    The package is awaiting clearing agency review. / The package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release.
China    07/20/2014    4:06 A.M.    Order Processed: Ready for UPS

Joy, oh joy

At least your packages have a lot of company because mine are right there with yours.
They even took away my delivery date again just to make sure those package wouldn't try to leave again.

Yeah, we're having fun.

Same, same.  I am kind of hoping that most recent customs thing is actually not in China though.  There was an export scan in Shenzhen last night, and after that I had a new delivery estimate for the 23rd.  But now I also no-longer have a delivery estimate and the last update is "The package is awaiting clearing agency review. / Your package was released by the clearing agency."  So hopefully it is at least out of China.

Looks like UPS is moving again. Just got this back on a refresh of the UPS tracking page for my shipment:

Anchorage, AK, United States    07/21/2014    1:49 P.M.    Arrival Scan
Scheduled delivery: Tuesday, 07/22/2014, By End of Day

Mine should have been on that plane but like so many others, it's stuck in a warehouse in the city where it started, Shenzhen.
1355  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 21, 2014, 04:52:43 PM
Well hell.  After showing an estimated delivery date of 7/22 all weekend now mine show a status of "held in warehouse" and they say:

Scheduled Delivery:
Scheduled delivery information is not available at this time. Please check back later.
Last Location:
Shenzhen, China, Tuesday, 07/22/2014

UPS is sucking.
1356  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 21, 2014, 12:36:48 PM
UPS website just updated my shipping status with these two items:
07/21/2014    8:19 P.M.    Your shipment was not processed by brokerage and has not cleared customs. This has caused a delay. / Your package was released by the clearing agency.
Shenzhen, China    07/21/2014    8:15 P.M.    Your shipment was not processed by brokerage and has not cleared customs. This has caused a delay.

Still says it will deliver tomorrow but I find that hard to believe now.
1357  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 19, 2014, 02:17:50 PM
Interesting to checkout the real time connection screen:

One S3 is sending (UDP?) packets to:

tock9.usshc.com:123

ntp1.linuxhosted.ca:123

209.118.204.201:123

hydrogen.constant.com:123

Does any of this make sense?

Those are all port 123 which is NTP.  How often is it contacting those addresses?
1358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 19, 2014, 01:52:56 PM
Are there still b1s not shipped? Any b2s shipping?

My batch 2 order has been shipped, estimated delivery July 22.
Order Date:
2014-07-02 03:18:42

Me too.  Sweet.  I hope the ones in the box are better than some of the B1's I have heard described here.

On the S1's if you disconnected the blue fan wire you could make them run at full speed full time and it lowered the temps.  Anyone duplicate that on these yet?
1359  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 19, 2014, 12:05:47 PM
I got a shipping notice from Bitmain.  UPS says it has yet to be picked up though.  B2 order.
1360  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 18, 2014, 06:06:16 PM
Two B1 orders for a total of 14 S3's and still no shipment info.  WTF?

Go to UPS.com, use Track by Reference and use your order number as reference.

Bitmaintech website is like updated 24 hours later (or more).

Looks like I saw at least 2 people say they saw evidence that their B1 orders went out today.  Can everyone who has a B1 order that is apparently unshipped check on UPS and see if their order is out?  I am curious if they got all the rest of B1 out the door or not.
