13621  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question regarding hardware wallet (Ledger Nano S) on: November 29, 2017, 04:32:05 PM
Regarding my 2nd question, if I send all my BTC balance to the address in my Ledger Nano S with a new seed. Then my electrum would have 0 BTC in it. So I import my electrum seed to other BCG and BCD compatible wallet, then I would still see those fork coins right even I have 0 BTC on that electrum seed?
Yes. You probably have 3 balances in your Electrum wallet:

X Bitcoins
X Bitcoin Gold
X Bitcoin Cash

And I say "probably" because this is only true if you had Bitcoins before both forks.

- If you had 1 Bitcoin while the Bitcoin Gold fork, you now have 1 Bitcoin Gold;
- If you had 1 Bitcoin while the Bitcoin Cash fork, you now have 1 Bitcoin Cash.

When you send all your Bitcoin balance to a new wallet, the remaining coins will stay there. They are all different coins.

How you check that you have recive you transfered btc if you not run online the first time Electrum Huh
You keep your wallet (and private-keys) in a offline device and use a online watch-only wallet to see your balance and build your transactions.

Watch the video I linked aboveto understand step-by-step how you can do that with Electrum.

13623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Recovering Bitcoin Cash from Bitcoin Wallet on: November 29, 2017, 02:29:43 PM
The same guy just posted yesterday that he won't charge the initial 30% of the recovered amount anymore.

Quote
I have decided to instead return the coins in full. There will no longer be a 30% recovery fee. If I have already returned coins to you, you will receive the remaining 30% later today. All future recovery requests will be in full.

If you have emailed me regarding coin recovery, please check your spam box. The mail provider I am using tends to result in my emails being in people's spam boxes.

13624  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What are thoughts on Multiwallets (Exodus, Jaxx, etc) on: November 29, 2017, 01:14:20 PM
You definitely need to worry about safety. These wallets may give you control over your private keys but can you know for sure what are they are not storing the same keys on their servers? You don't because the wallet is not open source so It's not really suggested to use them for storing large amounts.

Do you have any proof on that? You should also be more specific which wallets are not open source and not lump all of them in one category.

I also believe being a staff member in the forum should make you choose your words more wisely. The newbies, the real ones, look up to you and some take your word as "truth" without debate.
What do you mean? Everything he said is true.

What kind of proof do you want? Don't you have Google?

Jaxx:

Jaxx is not open source, although the full code (minus UI) is visible on the website.

Exodus (and Eden):

Coinomi:

Please link me one multi-coin wallet that is 100% open source.

hi there about Coinomi, I took this wallet as it has access to many coins.

BTT forums in a nutshell.

In fact, it was pretty obvious that something like this would happen (it always happens).

OP, can you lock this thread so we don't get every fucking newbie member coming here and shitposting?  You got your answer, and it should be clear to anyone here how to get that userID #.  Thank you.

13627  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium app and bitcoins gone on: November 29, 2017, 12:59:27 AM
Ahh - actually I did. I did a back-up once and got the 12 words.
But then I bought some some bitcoins and didn't back-up. Can I recover my full Mycelium wallet if I install Mycelium on a Android app and then use my 12 word passcode?
This could really sve my day....
Also from Bitcoin Core I have my transaction id:s (all transfers to my iPhone Mycelium we done from Bitcoin Core on my mac.
Your backup seed is always the same. It doesn't matter if you made or received X transactions.

If you have your 12 words, install Mycelium and when prompted, choose Restore Backup -> 12 words -> And type your words. It should restore your wallet along with your Bitcoins.

Edit: I just saw that Mycelium got removed from the Apple Store. I made some research and looks like the wallet will be back at the store soon[1].

(not sure if you are the guy making the post but here it is. lol)

13628  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is warp wallet secure?? on: November 29, 2017, 12:21:38 AM
It's safe if you use a strong password and the optional salt. It's basically a better version of the traditional brain wallet.

They even created some public challenges to test the safety of their warp wallet, which includes a reward of 20BTC and remain unsolved.

Quote
Just pick a really good password - many random words, for example - and never use it for anything else.
13629  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: best site to create a cold wallet on: November 28, 2017, 11:52:35 PM
There are a few options. These are the ones I use/recommend:

Paper wallet:
1. Go to BitAddress.org;
2. Click at the "zip" link at the bottom left part of the page to download the page source code;
3. Unzip the file;
4. Disconnect from the internet;
5. Open the "bitaddress.org.html" file and follow the steps in the screen.
6. Write down/Print your Bitcoin address and private key.
7. It's done. Now fund your address and keep your private key secure.

Electrum cold-storage:
I could write a guide or just link this video[1] that explains everything step-by-step.

Buy a hardware wallet:
a. Trezor - https://trezor.io/
b. Ledger Nano S - https://www.ledgerwallet.com/

Wait so none of the "multi" wallets are open source? That makes them seem super sketch now that I think of it
All the major multi wallets are closed source (Exodus, Coinomi, Jaxx...);

Actually, I don't know any multi wallet that is open source. Maybe the Waves client and the Ledger Nano S and Trezor hardware wallets.
13631  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question regarding hardware wallet (Ledger Nano S) on: November 28, 2017, 04:05:10 PM
1) My question is, let's say I have 1 BTC in my Ledger Nano S, and I plan to sell 0.2 BTC on exchange. So I send 0.2 BTC to say, Coinbase. Where will the remaining 0.8 BTC go? Will it stay in the same existing address in hardware wallet or will it store in another address in hardware wallet?
The remaining 0.8BTC will be sent back to you.

2) I am currently using electrum mobile wallet to store my bitcoin. If I send all bitcoin from Electrum  to my address in Ledger Nano S, will I see Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Diamond in my Ledger Nano wallet?
No. You would only send Bitcoins. To be able to recover and spend the other fork coins, you would need to import your Electrum wallet in a Bitcoin Gold/Bitcoin Diamond compatible wallet.
13632  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Need to upgrade a 1.7.4 Electrum wallet. on: November 28, 2017, 03:53:23 PM
First of all, get your wallet seed (Wallet -> Show -> Seed) and save it somewhere. Also backup your old wallet file to avoid any possible issue.

Now:
1. Download the latest Electrum[1] version (v3.0.2 as I'm writing this);
2. When creating your new wallet choose Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed -> Paste your old wallet seed -> Next;
3. Done! Now you can spend/receive your coins.

Don't forget to save/write down your seed. Without it, you won't be able to recover your coins if anything happens to your device/wallet file in the future.

To claim your BCH:
1. Download Electron Cash[1] (Electrum fork for Bitcoin Cash);
2. Open it and choose the same wallet you just created above (if you don't file the wallet file, look for it at %appdata%/Electrum/wallets).
3. Done! You should see your BCH balance and be able to spend them.

13633  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Need help retrieving BitCoin Cash (BCH) on: November 28, 2017, 01:39:46 AM
Ok please tell me what i am doing wrong:

1. I already transfered my BTC to Bittrex so I dont need to create another electrum wallet for transfer.
2. I downloaded Electron Cash
3. Try to setup wallet from existing seed - Cannot press 'Next' button when trying to create.
Don't you still have your Bitcoin wallet file from when you transfered your BTC to Bittrex? You can just open the same file in Electron Cash instead of creating the same wallet again (in Electron Cash) with your seed. Both wallet files are compatible with each other, so you can open a Electrum wallet in Electron Cash and vice versa.

I'm not sure what is the issue there. You should be missing a word from the seed or something like this.

You can:

a. Do like I said above and open your BTC wallet in Electron Cash
Or
b. Open your Electrum (BTC) wallet again and check if the seed you are trying to input is correct by checking if it's the same found in Wallet -> Seed.
13634  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: (2FA) Two Factor Authentication on: November 28, 2017, 12:40:29 AM
I have never liked 2FA, they are just a shady service and maybe it is safe because it has been provided by google, but i does not mean anything.
"I never liked 2FA, they are just a shady service" < quote of the year.

I would never suggest you to use 2FA on your bitcoin wallets,
Worst advice ever.

you never know if your phone is going to be stolen, and you need to do a lot of verifications on the X site that you have the funds if your smartphone is lost/stolen.
Or just backup your 2FA codes as I already explained above.

They are providing a token for the recovery purpose, but it is a lie, because you need to do a lot of things in order to enable 2fa in another device.
Huh

You clearly don't know what you are talking about.

2FA isn't owned by Google because 2FA is a protocol and not an app. If you don't like the Google Authenticator app (the one owned by Google), you can just use one that allows you to backup your 2FA codes (like I said in my previous post - which I doubt you have read).

Do you know these Newbies who talk shit about Bitcoin being insecure because X wallet/exchange got hacked? You just did the same but with the 2FA technology.

It is a horrible idea to start using 2fa, specially if you have a lot of money in those wallets. I knew a lot of people who lost a LOT of money because of 2fa, and i am not talking about $100 or $200, i am talking about more than ten thousand dollars at least.
I LOL'd.

Here, let me help you:

I'm not sure if this would work but you could try using this tool[1] to export your seed and derivation path. Then, you would be able to import them in Electrum/Electron Cash.

Please share if this works.

13636  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Trojan in Electrum 3.0.0 wallet? on: November 27, 2017, 08:23:50 PM
It's probably just a false positive.

If you are still worried, you can verify the executable signature[1] and confirm that you have the right files.

13637  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Need help retrieving BitCoin Cash (BCH) on: November 27, 2017, 06:38:25 PM
So I had my bitcoins in electrum wallet when the Bitcoin cash fork happened. Then I moved my btc to bittrex and back few times. Now btc are in bittrex. My question is what should I do to retrieve my bitcoin cash? If someone could explain to me step by step becauce now I am a bit lost. Do i need to transfer btc from bittrex somewhere? Or can i create electron wallet with a seed at thats it?(I tried to retrieve eletrcon wallet with a seed but could not press 'next').
You only moved BTC to Bittrex. Your Bitcoin Cash is still there in your old wallet.

Just download Electron Cash (Electrum fork for Bitcoin Cash) and open your wallet as you would do with Electrum (or just create a new one with the same seed).
13638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Possibly recovered old Bitcoin wallet private keys... now what? on: November 27, 2017, 12:46:25 PM
Thank you karmakeddon.  Is it safe to just take the private keys and import them during an install of Electrum? Or do I designate the recovered wallet.dat file as the wallet for Electrum to use? The wallet is very old and I read the format changed so I am unsure if this is a concern. When I mined I used to use the Bitcoin Core wallet.
First of all, backup all the files you found for your safety.

Electrum can't open yor wallet.dat file since it's probably a Bitcoin Core wallet. The best approach would be to download Bitcoin Core, let it sync (should take a while) and open the wallet.dat with it.

For your list of private keys, download Electrum and import your list of private keys.

Would importing the private keys into a new wallet some how destroy or invalidate the coins since the addresses are different?
No. You can just import them.
13639  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I accidentally deposit btc to tether USDt wallet on: November 27, 2017, 09:11:40 AM
I accidentally sent USDT to BCH address. How can I get the USDT out?
Do you own the address? Simple export your BCH private-key, create an account at Omniwallet.org and import your address. You will be able to see and spend your coins.

If you don't, contact the service that does own the address.

I accidentally deposited btc to tether USDt wallet, it left my blockchain wallet without deliver to their tether USDT wallet, I have contact the exchange concerning their private key, they said sorry they can't help me with that, isn't another tricks for me get back my coin??
No. Sometimes it's too much work for them to bother on helping you.

The warning are clear and if they don't want to help you, then your coins are gone. There is no other way for you to recover them.
13640  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to claim my BTG? on: November 27, 2017, 09:10:29 AM
Is this recommended to be done on a different computer?  I read that claiming bitcoin cash, you should use another computer.  I assume using this on the same computer as bitcoin cash would be fine?  What about doing this on same computer as you keeping btc on the same computer with electrum?
It's fine but it's not recommended. The Bitcoin Gold team did some pretty bad job in protecting its users against malwares and fake wallets. They temporary linked a fake wallet in their page and recently haven't succeed in keeping their Core wallet safe - as you can see in this post[1].

I wouldn't install any random software in the same PC that you have your Electrum wallet. First send your coins to a new wallet and preferably only install the BTG wallet in a isolated device.
