14001  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium HD Account on: September 30, 2017, 02:16:04 AM
A lot of people say, you are not supposed to keep all your BTC in 1 wallet, and dont do mroe then 1 transaction on 1 wallet because of security. So how does that work on Mycelium wallet?
It's actually one transaction per address. You can create a HD wallet, where Mycelium will give you one address per transaction to improve your privacy.

1) What is advantage of HD wallet? (how i have understood - Mycelium wallet will replace itself when i send my BTC on that wallet and new one will be made automaticly so my Btc transaction cant be followed) - did i understand this good or i was wrong?
Understand that wallet =/= address; An HD wallet will generate a new address after each transaction. This means that you can receive 1 BTC in X address and 2 BTC in Y address. This way people can't know that both addresses belong to the same people.

2) Why currently site for Mycelium and Mycelium wallet doesnt work?
What do you mean? This is the official website and it's working: https://wallet.mycelium.com/

3) Cold Storage in Phone App - do i need to trasnfer certain amount of BTC there, and is it only "read only"  or i can use it for transactions as well?
Depends on how you build your cold storage wallet. Usually, you will create a wallet in an air gapped computer, copy the xpub or address and create a read only wallet in your online PC. This way you can see your balance and create a transaction to get signed by the private key in the air gapped pc and sent to the network through the online pc. Online PC transaction -> Send to offline PC and sign -> Send to online PC and broadcast.

4) I tried making 1 more HD Account(i have one) but all i was getting was some kind of error(i think 3 updates ago from playstore)... When i transfer money from 1 HD Wallet to another - is that same as transfering money to someones else wallet and whole transaction goes through blockchain or is something else?
When sending BTC to a new address, it will always go through the blockchain. It's like sending money to anyone else.

I know this questions may sound dumb, but i still havent decided which wallet will be "THAT WALLET". First one that i started with was Mycelium and i would really like to get more into this(planning soon to buy Ledger Nano S) and i really like that there is possibility of Mycelium connecting with it.
My suggestion is: Electrum for PC and Mycelium for android.
14002  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Fork November: Ledger wallet in "Legacy" or "Segwit" to get free coins? on: September 30, 2017, 01:52:45 AM
I'm reading about this replay protection thing, or the lack of, and i'm beginning to see the problem now, i think

So if my newbie brain is getting this right:
Bitcoin core has no replay protection
Bitcoin S2x will have no replay protection.

If you have coins on both chains, and you send coins on one chain, there is a possibility you loose the same amount of coins on the other chain?

If i understand this right, this is a serious problem when holding both Bitcoin core and Bitcoin s2x...   Angry

TLDR: When you send a transaction, your transaction may be broadcasted in one chain, and be picked up by the other, making you spend your coins on both chains by mistake.

Quote
An attacker, or anybody in general, could pick up your broadcasted transaction on one chain, and relay it to a node on another chain. Since the transaction is valid on both chains, both nodes would accept it.

14003  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: JAXX Wallet - have I lost my BTC? on: September 29, 2017, 01:28:18 AM
You will be fine. The only issue would be if you didn't have your wallet backup phrase - but they ask you to save it when you create your wallet, so I'm going to assume you have it.

Select "Pair / Restore Wallet" -> Enter your backup phrase; This will restore your wallet and you will be able to see your coins again.
14004  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Warning] About Coinomi on: September 28, 2017, 08:42:30 PM
Sorry, but don't understand, what's the issue. Are seeds or private keys of all addresses published? Only see responses, not the issue itself.
Read the issue posted on GitHub.

"Connecting to these servers shows they are unencrypted without SSL... Does this mean your Android app is making all Electrum requests in plain text?"

"[...] So basically opening the Coinomi app is broadcasting all of my Bitcoin addresses in plain text over the network."

And from this reddit post[1]:

Quote
"This has privacy issues, meaning I can view all of your addresses and see how many coins you have, which addresses you're sending them to and which addresses you received them from.

It could also potentially open you up to a replay attack. e.g I ask you to pay me 1 BTC. I run a man in the middle attack meaning all your requests go through a computer I control before getting to Coinomi (this is possible because they aren't using SSL). I can then choose to stop the payment getting through. I say, I didn't get the payment. You can verify on the blockchain and in your client that the payment really hasn't gone through. You send it again and I receive the payment. Then at a later date I can re-send the original payment I captured which is still a valid transaction and I will receive another payment of 1BTC."

14005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question about used addresses on: September 28, 2017, 08:09:59 PM
You can sign a message with any address you have control. A "used address" is still a regular address just like any other, but may be labeled like this to prevent you from using the same address more than once by mistake in case you care about privacy.

1. What is your wallet software?

Read this thread on how to sign a message with several major wallets: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0
14006  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Warning] About Coinomi on: September 28, 2017, 06:09:32 PM
They handled the situation very badly by ignoring the issue for days and acting like a child at twitter, but the good news is that they plan to fix those issues (incase you still want to use Coinomi);

Quote
Hey all,

We have been working on extending the electrum protocol to support secure websockets so we could have a unified electrum indexer API for the mobile apps and websites.

Keep an eye on the ElectrumX repo for a pull request.

Sorry that it took so long to fix.

14007  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor backup on: September 28, 2017, 04:19:25 PM
I have setup my TREZOR wallet and sent a small amount to it to check out the process.  That’s all working and easy to do.

Now about backup?  At setup time I wrote down the 24 words generated.   If I lose the wallet I use these words to regenerate a new wallet?   But regenerate it from what?   This means that my private keys must be encrypted and stored somewhere else.  If that entity goes off line and next year I dig out my wallet and it’s broken, then what?  Am I correct on this?  If I am then that means, once again, a third party is holding my key even if they are encrypted.

Seems I should be able to just dump out my private key strings and back them up and take them off line.  Why should any third party be holding my keys  in any form?

I am obviously missing something in this process.
1. You just need your 24 words to recover your wallet.
2. No one is holding your keys. Read this[1] to understand a little bit about the whole proccess of recovery of a HD wallet.
3. Even if Trezor ever goes offline, you can still recover your coins by using the same seed in a compatible Bip39 wallet. Example[2];

I think that we all knew that he meant to our service. troll, can you please go and higher your post count somewhere else? especially the competitor's signature.
Am I really the troll? Or maybe it's your sockpuppet account bashing and spreading bullshit about the competition while wearing your service's signature?  Roll Eyes

I really deslike your behaviour of calling everybody a troll just because they are saying something bad about your mixer. Even if the user concern is valid.

I'm not here to "attack the competition". I actually reviewed and gave positive suggestions to other 2 mixers while wearing the ChipMixer signature. The best mixer will prevail regardless of some random posts from your so-called "trolls".

Anyway, good luck with your mixer...

edit: I just requested an account. Let's see!
14010  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Which wallet is best on: September 28, 2017, 01:04:34 AM
Btw, none of the wallets above is secure enought to store a large amount of BTC. Like LeGaulois said, fees are the same for every wallet. You are not paying the developer of the wallet, but the miners with your transaction fees - which is required for every transaction. TLDR: Understand Bitcoin first.

Regardless, I recommend you to use Electrum as your desktop wallet and Mycelium if you want an Android wallet.
14011  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium, you are going the wrong way. Please stop this. on: September 27, 2017, 10:28:26 PM
I don't see that, maybe because I haven't installed any updates or something.   Bit Coinomi is kind of doing the same thing, including advertising on the main screen of the wallet.  I agree it's a horrible fucking idea, but it doesn't surprise me in the least that they're doing it.  They're whores just like everyone else in cryptoland.  I'll take a look at my mycelium wallet now, see if I missed something.  Cloud mining is nothing but a scam.

Edit: I have the buy/sell thing blocked in my preferences, so maybe that's why I don't see it.
I had to stop using Mycelium because of this kind of behaviour. After reading this post, I checked Mycelium again and I can't see the "Buy RMC" button anymore. Can someone else confirm if it's still there? Maybe they removed them in a very recent update?

14013  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ✰ [ANN] BITMIXCOIN.IO ✰ High Volume Bitcoin Mixer ✰ READ UPDATES! on: September 27, 2017, 05:04:38 PM
I tumbled my coins successfully @ bitmixer.io yesterday. Initially, I was very hesitant due to the amount of FUD on this thread, and its similarities with bitmixer.io. However, I decided to give them a try with the minimum amount, and I must say that they are one of the most secure and professional bitcoin tumbling services I have ever used.

Yes, the website looks kinda like bitmixer, and 99% of websites that adopt this approach are scams. Bitmixer.io is the exception and is in the 1% minority. I say this because after my first mix, I made a lot more transactions with bigger amounts, and I received every single satoshi back minus their fees. I hope they keep this up and are here to stay as the community needs honest businesses.
I'm curious on how did you succesfully tumbled your coins using BitMixer.io, since its service stopped working 2 months ago Roll Eyes

It's also funny how you keep saying that bitmixer looks like bitmixer, and how bitmixer is the exception. lol
14014  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: USB Bitcoin wallet? on: September 27, 2017, 04:58:15 PM
Really? I didn't think about it, although it makes sense. I've only been in the whole cryptocurrency thing for a very short period of time, so thanks a lot.
While we are on the topic, how common is bitcoin scam, in terms of tempering with the hardware? Would like to hear about someone elses mistakes, before making my own )

I never heard of any scam myself honestly but that's probably due to the fact that almost everyone buys them from the company itself or from Amazon (not third party sellers) but it's definitely possible to play with the hardware. I see no reason on why you should take the risk for large amounts of money, just buy them from Trezor or Ledger directly and If you can't get them shipped to you, use a reship company.
It's actually not that easy to tamper a hardware wallet (or at least a Ledger Wallet);

Quote
It is not possible to replace your Ledger Nano by a compromised one. So even if your package is intercepted on the way to your house, you won't have to fear any tampering.
[...]
The Chrome app knows the public key and can verify the signature. If an attacker switched the Nano with a replica running a rogue firmware, it wouldn’t pass the attestation test and would immediatly be rejected as non genuine.

There is absolutely no way that an attacker could replace the firmware and make it pass attestation, without knowing the Ledger private key.
Source: http://support.ledgerwallet.com/knowledge_base/topics/what-if-someone-tampers-my-ledger-wallet

About Trezor, I'm not sure if they have any kind of similar mechanism against tampering, but they do have seals at the box where it comes the device.
14015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Split BTC in different wallets? on: September 26, 2017, 10:50:27 PM
That's not a good idea. The best option would be to hold all your coins in a hardware wallet or desktop wallet - such as Electrum - instead of storing them in several online wallets. Just being "risky" - which motivates you to separate your coins in several wallets - should already be reason enough to not use them in the first place.

I understand it is good to have ledger nano, but from vieo reviews in youtube,  I don't find it user friendly so  I do not want to use it as yet.
How exactly is Ledger Nano S not user friendly? LOL

Just like any other wallet, you receive your coins by copying your Bitcoin address and giving it to your sender. To send, you can just go to the "Send" tab, paste your receiver's address and confirm the transaction in the hardware device. What is so difficult about this?
14016  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmixer.io - Every end is a new begining on: September 26, 2017, 10:04:20 PM
Probably guys who're running Bitmixer earned huge profit from this service. Obviously, they are modest and they are not greedy.
Although I think there is something else behind it, something they did not tell us. it's a strange decision for me they didn't to sell the service at least

They probably earning huge profit but the people whose willing to join lately wasn't given a chance to enjoy the profit which other people having lately. Nice thing about it they really providing complete payments to those every members who joined. Eventually we have no updates yet if they're will be starting again with their mixing services, hopefully those investors will have another chances again so that profit will bebefit everybody in terms of good btc amounts.
They won't start new business under the name of Bitmixer, they closed it and this project is finished, ultimate source profit is destroyed for their own safety and I think that's smartest decision. Maybe they will start new business with another name and will be more smarts to protect theirselves on high level.
Also the reason of closing Bitmixer was seizing of famouse tor websites because almost every bitcoin was coming from bitmixer, isn't it still clear for everyone?
I don't think that way. Even without those famous DarkNet Markets, they would still get a lot of traffic and bitcoins per day. The proof of this is the number of mixers that launched since the BitMixer's closure - which are getting a fairly amount of users - and the post on the closing announcement in which he said the mixer was still profitable.
14017  Economy / Exchanges / Re: SENT USDT TO BCH ADDRESS on: September 26, 2017, 08:59:18 PM
Every Bitcoin Cash is AFAIK also available in the Bitcoin blockchain. You could try:

1. Go to OmniWallet.org -> Create a wallet -> Fill all the fields and create your wallet
2. Go to "My Wallet" -> My Addresses -> Add Address -> "Import Adress with Private Key" and insert your BCH private key.

Please, what is AFAIK?
Sorry Tongue

AFAIK = As far as I know; Because I can't confirm that the information is 100% correct.

But anyway, did you manage to move your USDT by using the method I wrote above? If not, I would say that what OmegaStarScream said is correct.
14018  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Share your opinions of the November Lightning Fork on: September 26, 2017, 08:45:24 PM
Does this mean it will pass since segwit is already activated ?
Yes. The Lightning Network will be deployed on the main network without 2x. It only needs segwit which has already activated. It is not a consensus rule change so it does not require a fork and does not need anything to make it "pass".

If it does what will be the true impact on the Bitcoin network ?
It will significantly increase the transaction capacity as many recurring small payments can use the lightning network instead of having on chain transactions for all of those transactions.
So if lightning network doesn't need segwit 2x to function on the the main segwit network. Why did the 2x proposal go through in the first place if it doesn't have replay protection. Unless I'm missing something obvious.
The only way we found to put together enought hash power to activate Segwit was with the NYA agreement, which was signed by miners that wanted the 2x part. Core never agreed with that, but they are grateful - only - for Segwit.

It was something like "we only agree with that if you accept our conditions";
