13741  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Please help me to sign a time stamped message on my bitcoin cold wallet address on: December 09, 2017, 07:20:01 PM
-- Say, if the private key for that address is stolen, would signing be of any help? (Since Bitcoin is decentralized and no one in control, where can one appeal to to in such a case)?
That's not what signing is for. The purpose of a signed message is to prove that an specific address belongs to you. Let's say that I create an account here at BitcoinTalk and tell everybody that the address 1XXXXXXXXX is mine. If I ever get hacked and lose my account, I can create a new one and post a message signed with my 1XXXXXXXXX address to prove that I'm the original owner of the account.

-- Also, would not the private key be exposed  unnecessarily due to the signing? (leaving the paper/cold wallet as it is would be more advisable)?
You don't need internet access to sign a message. If you sign directly from your cold wallet or temporary import your paper wallet in a air-gapped device, your private-key won't be put in risk.
13742  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Issue importing private keys into Electrum Cash Wallet on: December 09, 2017, 06:12:28 PM
To import your private keys you need to choose "Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys" in the first screen and not "Standard Wallet -> Use public or private keys".

You can also get your Electrum seed by going to Wallet -> Seed. Then, go to Electron Cash and choose Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed -> Paste your seed and you are done.
13743  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: unconfirmed Transaction with Regular fee but after 3 days still unconfirmed!!!!! on: December 09, 2017, 04:46:10 PM
X-post from a previous post of mine:

ConfirmTX.com is a scam. Under no circumstances pay them to "accelerate" your transaction.
The admin lied about having a partnership with a mining pool, tried to sell his website script, has tons of complaints about their service doing nothing and now he just vanished from the forum.

Check the last pages of their thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2138157.100

Since your transaction is way over 400 bytes, you will need to pay if you want to use ConfirmTX (and since they are a scam, nothing will happen).

You could try http://confirmtx.com/ to accelerate
Stop recommending this scam!

1) Is any safe way to drop unconfirmed tx
No.

2) How long my tx will be in pool? Is any way to see expire date of it?
I heard somewhere that it takes 3 days 2 weeks (I can't confirm). But some services will keep rebroadcasting your unconfirmed transaction and putting it back into the mempool.
13745  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Upgrading from 2.6.4 with 2 factor to 3.0.2 on: December 09, 2017, 02:31:00 PM
If you can't manage to import your 2FA wallet in Electron Cash (to spend your Bitcoin Cash), do this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoincash/comments/7ee74h/claiming_bcc_from_electrum_2fa_wallet/dq4u9db/

To do the second part, you will need to download Electron Cash 2.9.3 or older. You can find it here:
https://electroncash.org/downloads/2.9.3/
13746  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alphabay recovery on: December 09, 2017, 01:31:04 PM
No. AFAIK the only purpose of the mnemonic is to recover your account if you forget your password.

And the wallets are probably gone anyway.
13747  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Did bitcoin diamond HF have premine? on: December 09, 2017, 01:13:17 AM
I'm not even sure how the distribution is going to work... But you can find this in their website:
Quote
What is the total amount for Bitcoin Diamond (BCD)?
The total amount of BCD is 210 million. No more increase. 170 million BCD, 1BTC : 10BCD will be presented to the Bitcoin holders for the long-term Bitcoin ECOSYSTEM support. The rest 40 million will be automatically transferred into the community rewards pool as tributes and mining.

I wouldn't waste my time with these scam shitcoins anyway. I am almost sure that nothing will ever come from this shady "project".

I have seen many users experiencing the same issue recently, which means that it's probably something with Blockchain.info.
Wait a little bit and try again later. If it doesn't work, send them a support ticket[1] and wait for an answer.

Other users experiencing the same issue this week:

13749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Pending transactions not showing up on BTC on: December 08, 2017, 09:58:43 PM
shouldn't pending transaction at least show up instantly?
Yes. From which wallet have you sent your coins and to with which one are you receiving?

Also, do you have your transaction id? You could search it in any Bitcoin explorer to see if there is really an ongoing transaction.

Try to drag and drop your .aes.json file in this page[1] to restore your wallet.

If it doesn't work, try to use this tool[2] to decrypt your file and get your private keys.

13752  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: BTC.com | Bitcoin & Bitcoin Cash WALLET Mobile & Web | Secure & trusted. on: December 08, 2017, 04:00:54 PM
I want to know, If someone does that, that imported address will be recoverable using the PDF we first or not?
Probably not. It should be the same as importing an individual private key in your Blockchain.info wallet. Your seed will only be able to restore the addresses derivated from the seed, and not the ones imported afterwards.

Also, Trezor is a BIP44 wallet, It should work too, no?
Not sure why someone would import a Trezor wallet in a web wallet. It's a waste of the extra security you get with a hardware wallet. (Maybe if you have your old wallet seed but doesn't have the device anymore)

But if it's a BIP44 seed, it should work. And if it's a BIP39 seed, you can convert it to BIP44 with the iancoleman's tool.
13753  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet expires? on: December 08, 2017, 03:08:41 PM
My advice would be to
1) update your "LINX" wallet
2) either download bitcoin core, electrum or buy a cheap hardware wallet
3) move your funds from "LINX" to core, electrum or your hardware wallet

Eventough, you bitcoins can never "evaporate", it's still possible that this (to me unknown) wallet uses some kind of encryption or derivation scheme to encrypt or derive private keys, and when you don't update, you might not be able to manage our unspent outputs anymore.
An other possibility is that it's a centrally managed SPV wallet, if the central servers go down, you might have problems spending your funds.

These are only 2 theory's, i don't know "LINX", so i have no idear how they work, but if they tell you you have to update your wallet, i would take it very serious (seriously: consider moving to a trusted wallet)..
AFAIK Linx is an Altcoin. And the OP has already been answered by me (based on that).

It wasn't with bitcoin in this particular case, but with LINX
It stated this on their website:

Let's read the whole thread before posting something folks Wink
13754  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger chrome app on: December 08, 2017, 12:17:45 PM
Can you try to load your Ledger in a different wallet (such as Electrum) and see if it detects your device?
13755  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Best place to buy bitcoin? on: December 08, 2017, 04:15:54 AM
If you decide to use Coinbase to buy your coins, it's better if you use GDAX insted. You can get a better price and don't pay the huge amount of fees that Coinbase charges your.

Here is a quick video that explains the difference between Coinbase and GDAX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRvN-01B2E0
13756  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ELECTRUM - Why the hell am I losing so much BTC for a send transaction?!?! on: December 08, 2017, 12:44:28 AM
Sorry what do you mean by the addresses I want to spend from? I don't know quite what you mean. I'm literally just transferring from one wallet to another.

Also it is for sure neither of the reasons you have mentioned as I haven't been buying or transferring in very small amounts, plus the point is that it isn't showing up as a fee at all, it just shows that my sending limit is about £200 below what it should be when I select the max transfer button in Electrum, but the fee that shows up is 100% fine, normal and reasonable, so it is essentially just like it is going to deduct money without giving me the reason why.

Still very confused as to why this would happen.
I imagine that you have a HD wallet (the one that has a seed), which means that your wallet own multiple addresses.

Go to your Addresses tab (if it's not showing: View -> Show Addresses) and check each of your addresses with a non-empty balance. See if the numbers match to what you should be able to spend.
If your Electrum version is > 3.0, don't forget to check both "Receiving" and "Change" addresses at the filter option.

13757  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How Come NiceHash Stored Nearly 5 000 BTC? on: December 07, 2017, 11:54:30 PM
About which NiceHash livestream are you talking about? When did that happen?
They did a livestream a few hours ago at Facebook talking about the incident and what happened.

According to them, the hackers were able to log in using one of the NiceHash engineers accounts and simulate a withdraw. Here it is:

13758  Economy / Exchanges / Re: +44-8004049463 Bitcoin Support Number on: December 07, 2017, 10:08:58 PM
Hello,

I have contacted 1 (800)6321348 which I found in the Internet for bitfinex support. An Indian native Eric Fisher answering was  claiming to be the bitstamp phone support.

After description of the Problem he asked to share my desktop with him for remote Control.
Unfortunately I followed  the instructions of Eric and after he was finished all the wallet was gone!! Plus Login to bitfinex Account was deleted!!

He claimed then that the withdrawal of the wallet would be transferred back after 24 Hours. In Order to do this he wanted to have access to desktop again which i denied.
LOL. That's one of the oldest scams that exist in the internet.

1. I can't find anything connecting Bitfinex to this number in the internet.
2. Did you actually download a remote control software and gave access to your computer to a stranger in the internet?

You can actually read more about this scam here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_support_scam

Can anyone help me or has similar experiences? There is a reward for successful help in bringing the BTCs back in the amount of one BTC.
Recovering your coins should be pretty impossible.
13759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin price USD - google search on: December 07, 2017, 06:14:32 PM
Because your google search result used chart from another exchange, possible some from your country.
You can check here, different exchanges have different BTC price.

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/#markets
That's probably the right answer.

Google uses the GDAX/Coinbase ticker to show the Bitcoin price. While at GDAX, we reached an all time high of $19k (almost $20k), some exchanges like Bitfinex couldn't even pass the $16k. The second chart is probably getting its price from one of those exchanges.
13760  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Exodus desktop wallet security?? on: December 07, 2017, 04:52:26 PM
Thanks for reply. I just don't find hardware wallet user friendly. It could be just me...  I find exodus very users friendly. I have btc in coinbase and kraken. Do you think it will be good idea to bring them on exodus considering I will have my private key in exodus but not in coinbase and kraken?
Absolutely. Never store your long-term coins in a web wallet/exchange/service that doesn't offer you full access over your private-keys. There were already many cases where storing your coins in a third-party resulted in users losing all their money. Always keep your coins in a wallet you control.
