141  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Is my 890FXA-GD70 bad? on: September 07, 2011, 03:26:39 PM
Its been a while since I put a computer together and I'm just trying to get a little input before I return it.

Basically, when I try to start it, it doesn't start.  No fans turn or anything. The power button on the board lights up for a second, and the power supply makes a click and thats it.  If I disconnect the 8 pin CPU power, it will start.  (although that doesn't help me much) I've taken out the cpu and made sure it was set correctly.  I've changed power supplies.  I've removed the video card.  I've removed the memory.  Still does the same thing.

Am I missing something or should I return this baby?

Thanks
Mike

Join the GLBSE, make an IPO, share your profits with your shareholders.  You could probably raise that coinage in a couple days, there are no casino type things on there.  My company on there mines, but I also invest btc's in new startups.
143  Economy / Speculation / The great bitcoin crash of 2011 predicted by the Hopi Indians. on: September 06, 2011, 05:21:41 AM
Upon scrolling through my collection of ancient hopi prophecies this crash is predicted in many texts.

I'll post as soon as I scan the stone tablets.  brb.

2 btc to the person who an help me.

First off on linuxcoin 0.2b.  It will crash sometimes and I can't figure out why.  I dont have my cards fully overcolocked.  Sometimes it'll just be when I move the mouse, It'll just go to the welcome screen and freeze my mining.  One of my other rigs has the same cards and has been running without a problem.  I'm not sure what I did differently.

I'd really like to install the final version, but the GUI miner wont recognize my other 2 cards.  It does the first one.  It seems to try to mine form my cpu when I try to use the other cards even though it seems to recognize that the cards are there.

Ok hope someone can help me, getting pretty frustrating.  I've tried to get intouch with the linuxcoin creator for a few days but never received a response, would love to give him the btc's since he needs it but I can't wait forever.

Please post your full hardware specs. including your video card clocks and power supply brand and wattage.

You said that your cards aren't fully overclocked.  Are they overclocked at all? If so, one of the cards may not be able to overclock at all without introducing instability problems.

The problem could also be power supply related.  Faulty or inadequate power supplies can produce all sorts of strange behavior.

Have you run Memtest on your RAM?  Ten passes of Memtest without any errors would completely rule out the RAM as an issue, but it takes a long time (depending on the amount of RAM).  Two passes without error should be sufficient as a quick test.

I can't help you much with GUI Miner specifically, as I only use the command line.  However, how are you sure that it recognizes all of your cards (Keep in mind I've never used GUI Miner)?  Does GUI Miner list all of your cards somewhere?  If not, can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

Have you tried running phoenix or poclbm through the command line?  Are you able to get one of them to recognize and use all of your GPUs?

If this helps at all, please send drgr33n the bitcoins, not me.

i'm pretty new to linux so really don't know how to run a memtest. My setup is 3 6950's with an raidmax 1000 w power supply.  The max it will let me go up to is around 840 mz I keep them at around 820-825.   The wierd thing is even when I'm not mining.  The linux coin will be booted up, and if I just touch the mouse, it will crash and go into the welcome splash screen asking me for my password.

As far as the final version with Gui miner, it gives me the choice of all my cards, but only the first one works.  Even though its pointed at the other cards it will spike the cpu and seems like its mining from the cpu.  (it says something like AMD (something) at the bottom of gui miner) I really don't know exactly what it says cause I dont have it loaded right now.

Question, what are the maximum GH you are planning to go up to? Are you capping at 2.5 GH or do you plan to expand operation?

I should be adding another 1 - 1.2 ghs within the next week just waiting for some stuff to arrive.  If it all works out smoothly I can add maybe one more rig. I don't want to expand beyond what I can handle.  It seems like alot of these companies got tons of money and invested it in mining gear and got in over their heads. Mining can be stressful especially when you have people waiting for a dividend.  I'd like to balance it out with smart investments on the GLBSE.   Just want to make something stable for people to be able to invest in without too much risk.

147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Bitcoin weakness most hinder Bitcoins ability to gain market and mind shar on: September 04, 2011, 07:33:22 AM
Price volatility.

Yeah, the dumps will eventually stop, but I'm afraid that the deflationary nature of BitCoin means we'll never be rid of speculation, and wild optimism is easily able to overwhelm market fundamentals.  It's chicken and the egg: this won't be as big a problem if the BC is widely adopted (the market will eventually overwhelm the relatively small pool of starry-eyed speculators), but we'll never get there if merchants are too afraid to enter because of volatility.

Isn't that why places like bit-pay exist?
148  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Poor mans base under motherboard? on: September 04, 2011, 04:43:57 AM
I insert plastic motherboard standoffs in the holes on the motherboard and then set it all on a sheet of mdf (wood) that covers the tabletop (which is vinyl and might melt).  The standoffs keep the actual circuit board from touching the sheet of wood.

These are the standoffs I use:  http://amzn.com/B00032Q31A

The MDF was something like $3 at home depot.

Ah standoffs seem like a great idea.  Just what I was wanting just didn't know they existed or what they were called.  Are they universal? will they fit in any motherboard, (or at least the popular mining motherboards?)

150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Bitcoin weakness most hinder Bitcoins ability to gain market and mind shar on: September 04, 2011, 04:31:39 AM
Biggest three in my mind are volatility, acquiring bitcoins, and easily exchanging in all countries for the local currency.

First thing that needs to be solved is ease of acquiring bitcoins however. People want to go to paypal and buy them or pay with a credit card. That can't happen, so there needs to be some other solution that works better than the current setup.

I think the volatility will die down.. people cant dump 25k at a time forever.  Each time one of these big dumps happen bitcoins are spread out to more people.  I actually like when it happens, the sooner the better.  As far as acquiring them I think Exchange bitcions has a pretty good deal in the US anyways where you can fund your account at any chase or wells fargo branch.
151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins biggest flaw on: September 04, 2011, 04:20:41 AM
What if ALL fiat currencies collapsed tomorrow? lol

hard to tell in that situation.  What would gold be valued at?  I'm sure i could get an ounce of gold for a pack of ramen noodles, if someone was hungry enough. Ramen is the investment of the apocolypse <-- i cant even spell it.
152  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Has anyone else lost money to btcdeals.com? on: September 04, 2011, 03:09:49 AM
Wasn't he trying to sell it? Wasn't matthew wright buying it or something I dont remember.  There is a thread on this board about it being for sale.
153  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Cheaper In Bitcoins on: September 04, 2011, 03:07:17 AM
How does the bond thing work now that they are sold out? What if I buy at a higher price?
154  Other / Politics & Society / Re: So Gaddafi has had his foreign assets frozen...... on: September 04, 2011, 12:45:48 AM
Gas was 17 cents a gallon in libya, they got free healthcare, free education, housing was a right and each new married couple got a house, their banking system was state owned, all loans were interest free, not to mention he was about to trade his oil for gold.  Libya has a higher standard of living than all of Africa, and higher than places such as Russia and Brazil.  Libya was also debt free.

all this will probably not exist anymore. Smiley

We live in a dictatorship in america, we're just given the illusion of choice.  At least those dictators put their country first.
155  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Poor mans base under motherboard? on: September 03, 2011, 09:49:24 PM
i would say wood or cardboard is pretty cheap

Ok just wasn't sure if that was ok to just lay it on there.
156  Bitcoin / Mining / Poor mans base under motherboard? on: September 03, 2011, 09:00:04 PM
I have 3 rigs with bases from open air cases.  I'm about to get another rig, is there any alternative to put my motherboard on?  I dont have the fancy cases I just need a base for now. Thanks
157  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let's recap on what we've seen in the past few months on: September 03, 2011, 03:39:43 AM
Would a fair estimate be 200 active FPGA mining boards exist today and that would be about 20 gh/s?
If so they do represent a tiny fraction of the mining power today and their uptake would have to
increase in such a dramatic fashion to even become a blip on a chart.

Don't they do around 100 mh/s?

Wouldn't that be just 2 gh?

Having issues paying out dividends, I have contacted Nefario about it so it should be fixed soon.

Again? Not pointing fingers in your direction this time Wink KJust wondering how unstable GLBSE is in this regard. Not the first time issues arised.

GLBSE is very very stable, I test the crap out of it before releasing any changes. The problem is that Tawsix was using an older version of the command line client, and has been offline so long that he missed all the notifications about the update.

Once he updates it'll work fine.

Nefario.

Ah, ok Wink

I hope yuo ramp up the web interface soonish Wink So a command line client is not necessary anymore.

Its not necessary anymore, what are you talkin bout?
159  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] LIF.A and LIF.B, market funds on GLBSE on: September 02, 2011, 06:02:10 AM
This Glbse is very exciting.  Just need to get the bitcoiners eyes off the bitcoin charts and onto the Glbse charts.

If you look at bitcoincharts.com it seems there is lots going on, but all the charts are basically moving together. The charts.glbse.com is much more interesting to me because they can all move separately.

But you mis the little issue of none of the company having a vlue making tradable with more than the pocket money of a 15 year old in one month. Not trying to be too negative, but right now the highest volume I see is 200 and the highest 30 day volume 1417 BTC. Good luck making some trading there Wink

Theres a small amount of people that know about bitcoins and theres an even smaller amount of bitcoiners that know about the GLBSE.  Its gaining volume slowly but surely.  Wasn't it just a command line interface not long ago?
160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tomorrow I want to hide a wallet.dat somewhere in Western NC. on: September 02, 2011, 05:30:03 AM
Me and another user on this forum had this idea first.
Just...never implemented it.
