1421  Other / Off-topic / Re: How many beers can you have before your are totaly out? on: September 09, 2014, 12:08:19 AM
I have recently become sober after a lifetime of alcoholism, but in my prime I could easily drink 12-18 beers in a night. Sometimes I binge for days and drink more, maybe 24-30 daily. At that point I would switch to vodka though, so hard to gauge. Way too much, I feel a LOT better these days (I'm richer, and I get more accomplished too) Drinking is a waste. Drunks are losers. ( try spending any time with a drunk person when you are not drunk yourself  Tongue Undecided Angry ) No one should be proud of being able to drink copious amounts.
1422  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your favourite TV show? on: September 08, 2014, 11:58:31 PM
boardwalk empire, mad men
I like the historical dramas (masterpiece theater from the 80s always rocks IMHO)

past series I have watched religiously; the wire, breaking bad, the killing, sopranos

classics; fawlty towers, upstairs downstairs, get smart, quincy, magnum pi, rockford files (the last 4 are for kitsch factor only)

mostly though, at this point in my life, I've had enough of sitcoms and network fare. My kids watch family guy and I cant stand to even listen to it from the next room, real lowest common denominator stuff there, I honestly do not find it even slightly funny.

I mostly only follow the odd miniseries or hbo style show. which reminds me, its time for season 5 of Boardwalk Empire! woot!

EDIT- I forgot Girls and Bored to Death (great writing and acting both)

How would a spike in btc USD value affect dividends? Would it even? Rumour has it that Apple new payment system will include btc with paypal. If true= moon

I'm assuming big spike would enable FC to cash out less btc to cover any fiat only costs therefore more btc to go around for us. Would FC hold back dive waiting for price to spike? Would there be logic in this strategy? I really hate waiting like this because I start to worry and think up nightmare scenarios.
1424  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-09-08] Video: Crazy Paypal-Promo Video features Bitcoin on: September 08, 2014, 06:25:19 PM
This could be what we've all been waiting for. It's from paypal's youtube, apparently, if it is actually legit we will find out soon enough. Time to grab coins
1425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will we stop the evil free market Chinese? on: September 07, 2014, 07:04:02 AM
Civilizations last about 200 years. The age of western dominance is coming to an end. It will be China's turn to dominate next. Can't be stopped. Welcome your new betters.

I won't be happy until I can buy my soilent with btc
1427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the top places of Bitcoin discussion ? on: September 07, 2014, 06:55:48 AM
Here is the place. All the other info outlets news usually comes from here first. I look at coindesk's news page and follow several btc related twitter accounts, but I unfollowed Marc andreeson when he started bragging that he had never read a book ever.
1428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alien Race Controls Banks and Religion But Not Bitcoin on: September 06, 2014, 08:07:10 AM
How come these supposed aliens are always secretly trying to subvert our civilization and control us? Why, if they are superior must they operate underground? And if they are so intelligent why can't they conceel their activities from even the weakest, most vulnerable and mentally ill people who appear to be the only ones who ever discover these vast conspiracies. Nut job and deluded idiot, I'm not even going to bother and google her backstory. No reason an actual world bank employee can't also become a hallucinating psycho too.
1429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Wallet should be suggested to a newbie? on: September 06, 2014, 07:53:31 AM
If they are a true n00b then they should start by downloading the block chain with bitcoin- q, it will give them time to look into how the whole system works and an idea of how big it is.
If they must get in right away, download multibit. Get block chain wallet too. I always suggest they get as many wallets as they can. Then they can try them out and send btc around to themselves between the various clients. They are going to want to practice backing up and uploading private keys with small amounts of btc to get comfortable with it. When they can confidently move around btc and retrieve wallets from private keys they should go the armoury route. It is a little bit advanced but offers the most secure storage when done properly. Of course they will need the bitcoin-q first to instal armoury so hopefully they already did that.

Basically I compare it to learning to drive. You can drive automatic all your life, but it's better and safer to learn standard. Then you have more choice.
1430  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you guys like watching documentaries? on: September 06, 2014, 07:21:12 AM
Some documentaries succeed because the people in them are so interesting. It doesn't even matter if you care about the subject matter, if you get some real characters and film them, the doc will be entertaining.
1431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is someone on a mini-donation spree? on: September 06, 2014, 05:25:24 AM
Yeah, it's spam, clogging up the block chain. It's like junk mail, a total nuisance.
1432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Indonesians Can Now Buy Bitcoin at Over 10,000 Indomaret Stores on: September 05, 2014, 10:33:24 PM
What about travelers in Indonesia? its a big tourist destination. What kind of verification is needed?
1433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sound Wallet Stores Your Private Keys on Vinyl on: September 05, 2014, 09:58:26 PM

While Sound Wallet may not appeal to mainstream users, this security-minded product may prove popular with .... audiophiles.

Why ? So they can listen to white noise in absolute pristine stereo analogue quality ?

Will they be planning to release it in digital 192khz 24 bit resolution do you think ?  Grin - or won't the dac's be able to capture the full "warmth" of the vinyls rendering of said white noise ? Roll Eyes

oddly enough I own several records that sound a lot like this. Merzbow is probably the best known noise artist. It is definitely NOT for all tastes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise_music
I think this novelty is strictly for the collectors! (I want one)
1434  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014: The Worst Year for BTC? on: September 04, 2014, 06:58:49 PM
Boring year, that is for sure.

I got in early enough to be quite satisfied with the value of my holdings.

If you read the news section you can see that the adoption process is happening quietly behind the scenes. It will be a while longer, but we are well on the way to seeing btc as a ubiquitous method of $transfer if not THE favoured method. Wait a few more years.

The link provided took me to this page;

that's as far as I went.
1436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Good news for the Bitcoin on: August 24, 2014, 10:12:24 AM
I suppose they will operate like an escrow service. They could already be eligible to pass the regulatory requirements to operate as an exchange too. I would tend to trust them to do it with better security than a lot of the players we have seen (and cringed at)

Not a fan of paypal, but they know how to operate! I have to give them that!

Good news indeed (if realized)
1437  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-23] Newsweek Introducing...Bitcoin Poker on: August 24, 2014, 10:04:12 AM
It's a great article if you are into gambling. I am not into gambling and associate a lot of negative sentiment with it. I'm sure if I did approve of sucker tax, sorry, gambling, then I might be swayed towards using btc to feed my vice, but I would probably already be well aware of btc and all the opportunities to lose it online.

Newsweek is kinda out of touch, no?
1438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is CIA or NSA project (excessive moderation of topic suggested by ibt) on: August 24, 2014, 09:38:58 AM
There should be a "conspiracy theories" sub in the off-topic section.
1439  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 24, 2014, 09:30:34 AM
Whoever ran the sig campaign is kind of an idiot....

Started skipping over higher ranked forum members because those spots were "full" instead of letting those people in and having less spots for lower members.  Choosing a full member over a Hero member... when you obviously value hero members more (they are paid more) is idiotic.  I tried to explain how it was stupid several times, but the language barrier prevented that.

Still have it in my sig though because, well I am a share holder... but sucks I should have gotten something for it and was passed up.

I think sig campaign is the action of someone who doesn't know what else to do. Online advertising is a field of expertise all to itself. If they wanted to do it most effectively they would hire an ad man/marketing guy, at least consult. The right PR person would probably be able to handle it. Even google adsense (!)

I get the feeling FC is so focused on his area of expertise (chip design) and so proud of his results (rightly so) that he believes the product will mostly sell itself. Engineers, sometimes to narrow of focus...

I'm of two minds regarding advertising though. It could be a huge waste of money if not done correctly. I'm no advertising guru, but concepts like maximum exposure and targeted audiences I can understand.

With that, I'm off to inhabit some other subs to spread the message around a little and hopefully earn my keep!
1440  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 24, 2014, 04:49:27 AM
This should be covered by operating costs.

You're an operating cost.

+1

Ad campaign is unnecessary - what are we doing, buying team members?

I think he should have considered making the ad campaign initially available to shareholders only.  This would at least give them a little income while waiting for the dividend payments to kick in.

Yes, all of us who have signed up to the sig campaign are advertising costs. I don't feel bad about it. Problem with sig campaign is limited audience (and when posting in AM threads : preaching to the choir)

A properly managed ad campaign that targeted a larger amount of the internet and links that led to better designed sales sights would be money better spent IMO. I will still take the btc offered for my sig. If FC is smart he's using the traffic stats from this campaign to strategize for a real one soon.

I really wonder if his focus is so much on consumer sales though? He doesn't seem very good at it, maybe Chinese language internet market works differently regarding this?
