They want non bitcoiners to read the article so they truncate all the info into a "grabber" soundbite
Karapeles was a CEO of a btc exchange therefore he's a btc CEO just like steve jobs was often called stuff like a "tech boss" jobs was never the boss of any machine, he was a CEO... People still "got it"
The differentiation between the blockchain and blockchain.info should be a little better delineated tho

Block gain is still one of the biggest btc companies around
Has most of the traffic and users
David Cameron included them in hid trade delegation to south east Asia even!

I would hope, that in the "how to securely store bitcoin" course you touch on the many shady investment schemes, the unregulated nature and risks of these, the poor performance of cloud mining schemes, the risks associated and general safety regarding such risky investments.
though not actually "secure storage" the above mentioned rackets are cause for more loss overall than simple hacks. Many a n00b has been bankrupted by such crooked endeavors.

OP pretty much sums up the way it is done, its been seen hundreds of times around here.
its pretty much your best bet to stay away from anything offered on these forums (and elsewhere too)
there little or no regulation or anything stopping these guys from pulling this sort of ponzi-like scams, there seems to be a new one every day and nothing ever comes of it, the scammers that run these things (and away with your money) dont really have to face retribution, so nothing's stopping them. even some that started out legit eventually turned rouge... if you go to the securities section you read thread after thread of people who have lost their btc, every single one...
dont invest in anything...its just too risky

it was easy
first i went and asked them; "have you heard about the Bitcoins? yet?"
and when they said "no" i walked away
those people have never had any "vision" and their financial acumen is in the toilet.
now they come and ask me about bitcoin.
i tell em to f%^& off, but not before i point them at these bitcointalk forums here first.
my friends, like people i actually like and share a mutual respect with...
they are well aware of btc
but mostly lacking the time or willingness to learn the tech side of it to get in. they seem content to sit by the wayside, its weird.
i have considered doing it for them , for a percentage fee... but that even is fraught with concerns... besides... if they cant figure it out for themselves (i did and I'm not 'puter wiz) then that's their tough luck.
you can lead a horse to water, but its pretty hard to make a fish ride a bicycle.

first i learn and master the english language. next i decide i will write the great english language novel of all time. then i proceed to practice my english writing skills in these here forums. then i quit my job and drive cross country. no probably wont. this is a public space. there are all sorts of people inhabiting these cyber-comunitires if you look closely most of them dont bring "strategy" to the table we all have a sense of tactics and we are all well served to heed those but.... if i was you i'd make it my business to lay low & know my place    |

What's the matter - you don't get the news. US extradites assholes all the time - even when they are not US citizens: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33550207 Reuters says his wife now lives in Canada and I know that to get US citizenship you have to be married and cohabiting for about 7 years. Maybe the US will extradite him after he's served his Japanese time, then he can do some time in a US jail. Canada is no longer part of the US. They threw Canada out for being too drunk on Moosehead beer while playing hockey - eh?. Correction. Canada kicked the USA's ass in a little thing called the war of 1812. Any publicity is good, but I don't really think "highly intelligent" when I see celebrities. It's the stars of business and finance that are truely the best advocates.
Remember Astin Kutcher? The guys kinda laughable. And sports stars are notoriously stupid and often terrible money managers.
Still, they command attention and respect...

I don't understand why you can't sell them through regular jewelry stores? They all do consignment.
Are these necklaces not precious metals? If they are costume jewelry, then yes, they are a little harder to sell, but anything made from gold or silver would be simple to put on consignment

There really should be some incentive for running a node, then they'd be all over it. Until then they're just going to mine and mine regardless of what the network needs. Not really the most altruistic business men over there(or anywhere for that matter)

It's just to ridiculous, to behave that irresponsibly. It's too much for it to be pure negligence. It points to fraud, intentional pre meditated fraud. He's going to jail, I hope the victims see some of their btc returned, but that usually never happens

Just see the number of accounts here at bitcointalk if you want an estimate of Bitcoin users. It's probably pretty close to the number of actual users.
Of course most only have a fraction of a bitcoin
