1481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Almost 1/4 of Belgian employees are willing to receive crypto-salary on: October 23, 2022, 06:38:26 PM
As mk4 already mentioned, the article doesn't disclose the sample size, which is a vital number when making such bold claims. If we suppose that this survey is up to statistical standards, 22% is quite a significant percentage.

Honestly, if I had the option to be paid in Bitcoin, I'd be quite skeptical to accept it. Your monthly salary is supposed to cover your expenses, settling for something that is volatile doesn't sound like a good idea. I'd rather set aside a X amount of money which goes towards investing.
1482  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Class action lawsuit against Telegram on: October 23, 2022, 04:07:26 PM
Telegram, Facebook, Discord, and probably other platforms are filled with such signal groups. Why would anyone, in their right mind, follow them? Anyone joining these kinds of groups is accepting the risk of getting scammed, tricked and ending in a loss of funds. In my opinion, becoming greedy and thinking that easy money exists is the reason why these groups exist, and OP, you sound like one of these people who go by this moto.

Good luck to you, but you won't manage something even if you actually sue Telegram, which is highly unlikely that you will.
1483  Economy / Reputation / Re: [FUN][In Merit] Post Count Down To Your Next Rank Here. on: October 23, 2022, 09:20:55 AM
Snip
This thread has helped a lot and is used as a medium for Rank Up, some users have received more merit than expected to achieve higher rankings.
I didn't expect this to happen, after ranking up (those who get additional merit in this thread to rank up) should contribute more here to help other users Rank Up.

I hope they don't forget this.
My thought too, and with this am more than certain there are more merits to go around from ordinary members than merit sources themselves! And if we the ordinary members took time to read other people's posts and reward the deserving this could give m-sources some time off reading/reviewing our good, bad, ugly posts week in week out! Put oneself in a merit source shoes, I feel the extra effort it needs from these guy's #hats_off_to_you_MVPs
I had posted on this thread before it got so popular, and I'm still occasionally lurking to see if anyone requires a little bit of merit in order to rank up. I don't remember receiving much merit deriving from this thread before ranking up, but it's okay, I decided to help anyway by giving away all my smerits.

I've helped quite a few members here rank. However, I'm also doing a brief review of your posts in order to send you merit. As awful as it may sound, I won't be giving merit to someone who posts one-liners or generally doesn't put an effort into their posts. Sources may have stricter rules when providing merit and may not also actively watch the thread in order to participate.

Excuse me but I'm on my phone again and could only take screenshots. 1xbit's spammers are on it again, making irrelevant one liner posts which all look alike. I wouldn't be surprised if they were all created by the same person, using alt accounts. After all, 1xbit accepts all kind of users. Not sure if they were edited out, but the majority of latest posts in the Economy section are made by these spammers.

1485  Economy / Economics / Re: Crude Oil drops below $100 on: October 22, 2022, 08:45:59 PM
^^^^ My question is still valid. The question is not regarding the generation of electricity. For example, if solar panels are used for running the vehicle, how do you use your car at night when the power is not available. For that purpose you need batteries and they are very expensive.

And if production of batteries don't harm the environment enough, the mining of raw materials for battery production is a very polluting process. On top of that it has triggered civil wars in countries such as Democratic Republic of the Congo.

And you are talking about new technologies in battery production. It has been almost two decades, and Tesla is still using the Nickel-Cobalt-Lithium battery for their vehicles.

Regarding the prices, at least in my country EVs cost 4-5 times more than the gasoline run vehicles.
Whether we like it or not, we need to cut down on fossil fuel usage not only because they are harmful for the environment but also due to them being finite. I understand your concern regarding the batteries; they are made out of harmful raw materials. However, they can be repaired and recycled. Technology is rapidly advancing and newer batteries will be made smaller, lighter and with less harmful materials in the near future.

At least here, there are a few affordable options for electric cars, so the difference isn't that huge for a somewhat luxury performance car. For instance, the new VW ID4 GTX, which is AWD, 300hp with great range, costs approximately €45.000–€50.000 with the government's subsidy, if I remember correctly
1486  Economy / Economics / Re: "Cities of the future," built from scratch on: October 22, 2022, 06:22:28 PM
If someone starts such a megaproject at a time when everyone is looking to save money, then it is obvious that they have so much money that they can set the whole desert on fire with it if they want to. What you see as "waste of money" is certainly not for them, and their current ruler, like many before him, is obsessed with leaving something spectacular behind.

It just strikes me that they are building the city of the future, and at the same time, they are behaving like barbarians from the Middle Ages because they are condemning to death the members of the local tribe who protested the project. A lot of money combined with very strange laws and the lack of respect for human rights put that country at the very bottom of those I would ever visit.
On top of that, how is such a city deemed eco-friendly? They are literally building a huge tall wall, stretching over 170 kilometres in the desert. I fully understand their desire to build something "magnificent" and technologically advanced, but why build such an eyesore? Most importantly, it will take ages to get from one side to the other, unless you use a ridiculously expensive means of transport, such as a train. What's ecological about that?

Couldn't they, at the very least, settle for a different shape? This thing will be visible from hundreds of kilometres away.
1487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does everyone want bitcoin to be stable in price? on: October 21, 2022, 11:43:08 PM
On the one hand, I might still be interested in Bitcoin in order to store value without it being centralised, keeping it out of the banking services. Although that can be done in other ways, such as via stablecoins.

On the other hand, it would completely lose its purpose and meaning. What's the point of storing and hoarding something that will gain no value in the upcoming years? I think that the majority of us are here because we're anticipating that Bitcoin's value will increase in the future.
1488  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Leaving your coins on exchanges on: October 21, 2022, 10:04:20 PM
Despite what others say, I find exchanges relatively safe. Don't get me wrong, I don't support them. I had approximately €600 worth of Bitcoin stored in Bitstamp for over 3 years. They were abandoned after I lost my interest in cryptocurrencies in 2018. I didn't face any issues with the exchange when I tried to sell and withdraw, nor did I lose any funds. I believe that even if a major exchange such as Binance gets hacked, they'll compensate their users. Otherwise, they'll shut down.

I'm currently holding with no intention of selling. Therefore, I don't see a reason to store my Bitcoin on an exchange, unless I was actively trading.
1489  Economy / Economics / Re: "Cities of the future," built from scratch on: October 21, 2022, 05:46:42 PM
I know it's been a while, but I found something really interesting today. Saudi Arabia has actually started building their futuristic eco-friendly city, "The Line". Am I the only one who thinks that it's too exaggerated and a waste of money? While I'm supportive of eco-friendly cities, this looks like way too much. Drone photos have captured huge excavation and construction sites. Shouldn't a part of this city be built first for testing purposes? What if it doesn't work out? Then we'll have 170 kilometres of wasted structures and land.

1490  Economy / Economics / Re: Reasons you will remain broke as an adult on: October 20, 2022, 11:48:45 PM
When you don't buy coins in the bearish season, and you don't sell your coins when the price is high in the market, it will make you broke as an adult in the community. Now that the price of coins has decreased for investors to buy and hold until the price go higher before they can sell to embrace income to become a great man or woman in the future, but those that will remain broke in the community will never follow the steps of other potential investors to know when they used to buy coins, and when they used to sell to make a huge amount of income from their investment.
Most people don't invest nowadays, and the majority of them are doomed to work from paycheck to paycheck and be completely reliant on their salaries. While the OP's points are valid, I'll have to point out that not all of us have the same opportunities in life, and that's dependent on a variety of factors, such as their country of origin or their family status. Wealth generally provides a wider range of opportunities compared to others who are struggling to get by and attend university or college, while others are forced to work from an early age in order to support their families.

The most vital thing is to not be lazy. I'm 24 years old, and quite a lot of my former classmates in university are not working or are too lazy to go find a job. Most of them are also lacking the necessary skills in order to be competitive. In my opinion, education and skill acquisition should never stop in our lifetime. After returning from the military, I'm planning on starting a variety of online courses in order to broaden my horizons.
1491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2024 Bitcoin Halving - What are Your Expectations!!! on: October 20, 2022, 09:53:50 PM
It will be like other halving: because less Bitcoins are being generated, its value will increase.

However, I do not know if the value will increase as much as in the past since we will probably in a cycle of rising interest rates.

Technically, Bitcoin's price should increase with every block reward halving. But if the global economy is in a recession, you cannot expect things to get better anytime soon. I don't think central banks will keep rising interest rates forever, especially when currencies aren't meant to be deflationary. This is only a temporary measure to help control inflation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. After this is over, we can expect Bitcoin to reach a new All-time-high in price.

If you're smart enough, you'd buy as much Bitcoin as you can while the market is bearish. By taking advantage of this opportunity, you will increase your chance of becoming a wealthy person within the not-so-distant future. Who knows what 2024 holds for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on the market? Just my opinion Smiley
This is also something to take into account, and I've been expressing myself too. If the economy is in the current or worse state of recession, don't expect the halving to rapidly change the market. We are, however, supposing or at least hoping that things will have improved by then. In my opinion, the economy will be in a better state than the current one, but still won't be at pre-Covid-19 levels, which means that Bitcoin might not have skyrocketed by then, but one thing is almost certain, that Bitcoin will be worth a lot more than it is now.

Will it surpass the previous all-time-high? From my point of view, if it hasn't, it will be quite close to it.
1492  Other / Meta / Re: Small poll for BitcoinTalk lovers on: October 20, 2022, 05:05:19 PM
Although I'd like to have something small as a coffee mug for cold winter days, providing that it doesn't cost a fortune to purchase. The combination of small-scale production and high shipping costs throughout Europe may be unsettling, and I wouldn't want a simple mug with a Bitcointalk logo to cost me over $25.
If you get a design for a forum mug, you can have it printed locally. That still gives the problem of the webshop knowing you're into Bitcoin, but it's probably cheaper than centralized printing and international shipping.
I checked a few mug printing websites, and found printed mugs for €18 including shipping. For larger amounts, it's 10 for €92 and 50 for €363. I expect prices can go lower if you search better than I did.
That's actually a great idea, which I didn't think of myself. On top of that, you can get a personalized coffee mug for as little as €7 online, plus shipping, which is €2–3 at most. Not a bad deal at all. T-shirts can also be done locally at a relatively low cost, but as I said, I'm tired of answering the same Bitcoin-related questions every time.

I might actually purchase a coffee mug in the upcoming days. I'll let you know if I do.

So, could it be much more interesting for you to make a set of graphics, which you could print on the desired support?
Personally, I could also make a simple design myself too. It wouldn't include much, something like "I love Bitcointalk" with a heart emoji. You could potentially come up with a few designs for t-shirts, mugs, and caps, I guess, and sell them here for a few bucks each. In my case, buying a customized mug won't cost more than €10, I don't know about other countries, but it'll be hard for you to beat such a price. Thus, I suppose coming up with a few designs wouldn't be a bad idea, and it would overcome most of these issues (privacy, costs, etc) other members mentioned.
1493  Economy / Economics / Re: Crude Oil drops below $100 on: October 20, 2022, 04:22:46 PM
You can here long and tediously retell propaganda or other fake news, but the reality is different Smiley
I have information from a person who works directly in China, is directly involved in the purchase of oil, and primarily Russian, which Russia, not being able to sell to other countries (due to many factors and restrictions from the spring-summer 2022), began to sell to those who does not hesitate to support the global terrorist.
But, since the situation is not very in the hands of Russia, both China and India have set their own conditions for the price. Today, discounts on oil, from the market price "here and now" is up to 30%, this is for normal oil. Russian terrorists were forced to give a discount of 50% or more for China and India on this oil, and to bear the logistical costs (exactly for China, there is no information about India).
What you are writing about is the pricing of "old" contracts that were signed before the loss of the oil market in the EU.
This is what reality looks like.

Let me remind you of the ancient saying "No matter how much you say halva, it will not become sweet in your mouth" Smiley
Well, that's not really private information or news. Russia started selling to India and Russia at discounted prices when Europe limited their usage and purchases. However, Europe started buying from other markets, which were reselling Russian oil at much higher prices. I love how Europe "punished" Russia with their sanctions. The only ones suffering here are European citizens, especially those who were already in a desperate situation.

Anyway, I've come to terms that stability isn't going to come any time soon. Crude oil prices are increasing once again and are constantly fluctuating, with gas prices being constantly on the rise here, causing inflation to worsen.

My Countdown to Senior Member Rank
Number of Merit(s) left: 14

Finally, I am almost to achieving the next rank Sr. Member. I'm so happy and can't wait for the new rank.
Although achieving the new rank isn't so important for some people, it means a lot to me. I know a new rank may not reflect the improvement of my knowledge, but I want to use this as the momentum to be even better and do more contributions.  Smiley

For every member who still dreams to rank up, never give up because it is not something impossible. Just do more valuable efforts, people will appreciate it!

I know how it feels to be just a tiny step away from ranking up. Therefore, I decided to send you the rest of the required merit. Congratulations! You're now officially a Sr. Member. I'd like to point out one thing I noticed, though. In some of your posts, your grammar needs improvement in terms of consistency. It may be an expression issue resulting in a non-coherent sentence, which I understand if English is not your first language. It's perfectly okay. I'm only here to suggest you use Grammarly or LanguageTool, both great tools that helped me review my posts before submitting them.

On the one hand, I'd like to have some kind of merchandise from the forum I spend so much time on, but on the other hand, there are a variety of reasons I wouldn't proceed to buy anything. As LoyceV already mentioned, a forum-related t-shirt would shout from a distance that you may own Bitcoin. Not only does this make you a target, but you'll also be flooded with questions regarding Bitcoin every time you're in company. I'm not suggesting that you'll get mugged in order to have your wallet wiped, but it may give the vibe that you're wealthy. Bitcoin here is often seen as exotic by people.

Although I'd like to have something small as a coffee mug for cold winter days, providing that it doesn't cost a fortune to purchase. 1497  Economy / Economics / Re: Crude Oil drops below $100 on: October 16, 2022, 05:18:25 PM
Surprised to see the Brent Crude prices hovering around the $90-92 level. After the announcement from OPEC, I thought that the crude prices would easily rally to $120-125 levels. And also, the shale oil output in United States has remained flat for the last many months (total US oil output has remained flat at 12.1 million barrels per day). There can be only one conclusion here. The demand has dropped. But I would be surprised if that happened, because COVID lockdowns are over in China and therefore the demand should actually increase.
Don't get ahead of yourself; we still have a long way ahead and, unfortunately, it's still very possible. It's been extremely volatile and gas prices aren't going to change anytime soon, especially with the also volatile USD/EUR exchange rate, which is severely affecting the final purchase price of oil in Europe.

If Brent oil possibly fell below $85 per barrel, then we could perhaps start seeing a difference at the gas stations, but it's so volatile that chances are, these reductions will never be seen by the final consumer. It will have to stabilise at a way lower price than the current one, which is trending just above $91, in order to make any significant difference.
1498  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin may drop to $15k or so but it'll definitely hit $300k+ in coming years on: October 16, 2022, 03:02:28 PM
We've associated halving with bull markets. While this has occurred in the past halvings, it's not necessary that it's going to happen in the upcoming one. Other factors, such as the economic situation or other indexes and stocks, such as the S&P 500, must also be considered. There are actually a lot of investors and analysts who also claim that Bitcoin will skyrocket in the upcoming years, and don't get me wrong, I also believe that it will see a major increase in price somewhere between 2024 and 2026.

If you ask me, $300.000 sounds way too exaggerated; $100.000-$150.000 seems more realistic.

~snipped~
I'm really sorry for your loss. Your case sounds way more tricky and way harder to predict since, from what I understood, you were shown the correct address at first but the script switched it at the final stages. $200 is not a huge amount, but not a petty one either. As much as torrenting is useful for obtaining software you need, I've come to terms with the fact that it's a huge risk when having cryptocurrencies stored on your computer, and that it's not worth it. One idea is to keep cryptocurrencies and transactions away from your main computer.

I see that you're a newbie and put some decent effort into your post. I hope you stick around in the forum. There's a lot to learn. Thank you for spending your time to inform others regarding such a serious malicious script.
1500  Economy / Economics / Re: Court win for worker fired for not keeping webcam on on: October 15, 2022, 11:23:28 PM
As much as I'd like to work from home, being monitored by a webcam would be a huge bummer and a privacy breach for me. For those mentioning that offices usually have CCTV, it's clearly not the same thing. Your workplace isn't providing the comfort of your own home. It's pretty obvious that you won't be acting the same way in the office as in your home.

I'm generally easily distracted when at home and may be constantly scratching my head or my face when sitting on a computer, things I'd refrain from doing in a public office. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't get the work done; it's just due to feeling more comfortable in your own home. There are bound to be distractions in your house while you may not live alone. I understand the need to make sure your employees are productive and working as they should, but monitoring throughout their whole shift is way too much.
while you are working from home - you should have a separate and private work place where the privacy is not breached
Having your computer set up in front of the wall and having your room locked during online meetings would be a better idea to avoid trouble on both the end. We all are trying to make our rules while working from home which is a big hassle for the management itself
Even if that's the case, I'd still feel uncomfortable knowing that a camera is watching me throughout my shift. It sounds too much. On top of that, not everyone has the ability to actually have a separate space for work. My apartment is approximately 35-40 sqm at most. The kitchen, living room, and dining area are one undivided room, while the bedroom doesn't have enough space for a desk. Thus, unless I settle by laying on the bed, there's physically no way I could have my own space to work in.
