Amazing. The owner of the group stopfilelockers is already trying to cut off the companies that do payment processing for mega. And stopfilelockers wants all file locker sites to intrude on customers and do file fingerprinting to check for infringing files. With Kim's mega that would be impossible since only the customer can decode the files.

If I were him I'd be assembling every FPGA I could possible build with what parts I had left and start hashing to pay back the BTC that was already spent.
Which may yield results for 3-4 weeks. Clearly not enough.

If you are holding any other assets and not in bitcoins you are by definition short bitcoins.
No you are not. Shorting is being lent an asset and selling it (to buy it at lower price later and give back to lender). Thnx for the lesson in trading terminology ... ... short is also used to mean "not long". Well not really. That would be neutral or no position. Short is when you owe bitcoins that you do not actually own, with options or protection. (I am not saying that options or protection currently exist)

Hey all,
After rereading this thread and thinking about whether this would work, I've concluded that while it would be a fun project, it would not succeed as a business, or as a security on an exchange like this. As some have pointed out: the profit margin simply isn't advantageous enough to produce enough revenue to make it worthwhile.
So, I am returning all funds to shareholders via a dividend scheduled for noon today. And I'll just eat the 5btc asset creation fee.
Thanks to everyone who supported this despite its rough start. I've learned from this that I should get a diverse opinion before jumping into something. I'll always be on the prowl for new projects and businesses!
Best, Garrett
I think there is a business model there, but maybe not as a security. If you have the cash and wanted a 3D printer, buying one and leasing it out could make money. And of course the twist is that you can accept BTC as payment for items.

With the number shipped so far there will be a slight increase in BTC supply next week, followed by a slight decrease then the blockchain corrects. If the owners of these ASICS are BTC sellers then the price may go down a slight bit. Maybe.

Should the internet close on the weekends?
Or how about after hours (US time) so the people on the other side of the world can not use it during the day?
|
|

No. Just this way.

How can the people defend their other rights without the 2nd amendment? How can they enforce the restrictions and duties of their government without it?
Soap box. Ballot box. Jury box. The ammo box is the last resort.

there is a lot of beautiful boxes... So they took every one out of its shipping container, unwrapped it completely, and set it naked on the shelf jammed up next to its cousins? At least they put some boards and sheets of foam or something down on those steel Nexel shelves. BFL's technical dept A lot of box's full of nothing with holes in them so that more nothing can get in to the box of nothing (Also scratched) @ 30k a piece I am willing to take a scratched one, so long as its filled with working ASICS.

|
Sold yet?
Also are you willing to ship to Canada?
Potential pending sale but if I don't hear back within 24 hours I will open it back up.

If mega were to accept BTC there would be serious hints out by now. It's a 100% rumour without any basis in reality.
I expect a huge crash on the 20th
I don't believe this is causing buying so I don't think it will drop price much if any. There are many other people adopting Bitcoin along with all of the coins slowly leaving weaker hands.

Theoretically, if Kim could get suppliers of hosting and bandwidth to take bitcoins, he wouldn't have to cash out anything. Incidentally, this is how the system will work when we grow past the edge-exchanges being relevant.
Reasonable though hosting costs should not be too big of a part of his budget.

Legal tender laws in the US = private debt can always be settled in USD. Of course, they CAN! However, their debt is denominated in bitcoins, not in dollars! I gave them bitcoins, not dollars! They MUST settle this debt AT CURRENT bitcoin/$ rate, not at the rate that was months ago! I'm fairly new to the bitcoin community and seeing people like this make me fear for its future. +1

I hope he doesn't accept bitcoin and proudly displays paypal's logo so when paypal close the door on his service he can point all his media hype at paypal's evils and present bitcoin as the solution to his hoards of already signed up subscribers.
Paypal is out of the question. They would shut him down right away as they are quite beholden to the power of the music industry. Just this week Mr Dotcom's PAID radio ads where canceled by the music industry. Think about that.... Advertising which is almost always a win to sell and pure profit above cost and they are being coerced that effectively not to accept that money. Visa/MC is only possible (for a short period) because there are so many payment processors and many of them are not located in the USA. Visa/MC has a lot more rules and contracts so decisions to terminate a customer can not just suddenly be made. Lawsuits are much more possible for canceling Visa/MC where they are not with Paypal.

$630 including US shipping. BTC payment only.
What rev and what temps and hash rate do you get with it? I actually have several and run them at 808. I do not want to worry about stressing them. Most likely the buyer would hash for a bit then use as a trade in so top speed is not that critical. I can check the current temps tomorrow.

One more thing...
The new Mega is going to start free and stay free for long enough to generate buzz and users. Even if they pick BTC, the users wont be scrambling for it for a while.
