1561  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: How much RAM do mining software need on: January 18, 2012, 07:46:37 PM
did you not know that?
Is it needed to have at least 15.5 GB ram per FPGA. else it can not hold all the nonce from the blocks, while its working at the FPGA.
This is essential.

Thank you!

@OP: im kidding! you don't need much ram. the standard(128mb) of the beagleboard should be fine, to run many(25-50) instances of a miner. you should be more worried about the 600mhz cpu.

EDIT: you are not think about swapping it to disk, are you? you would have a performance loss of at least 60%

16GB/FPGA is standart.
1564  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica: When does it implode? on: January 17, 2012, 07:24:01 PM
714 schooled all you fools.

This is from the perspective of a guy whose buttcheeks actually see the light of day on a regular basis.
do you go around naked? on a regular basis?
are you a nudist?

btw. 714 lost big time, he took the bait!
1565  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica: When does it implode? on: January 17, 2012, 07:03:21 PM
do i hear a n00b crying?

LOL, aren't you just precious? Only small-brained teenage dipshits use the term noob, much less spell it n00b. I suppose I should add a poll choice just for the mentally 12 and under and set. That would be 31337, wouldn't it kiddies?

N00b is crying confirmed.
WIN!
1566  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people in USA fear socialism so much? on: January 16, 2012, 11:10:09 AM
I don't believe in systems. Systems sabotage culture. Culture prioritizes participation. Systems prioritize organization.
have you ever considered that there is system in culture? or culture in the system? seriously dude, YOU ARE WRONG!

1568  Economy / Speculation / Re: I guess lots of geeks got their bonus before Christmas and bought bitcoin on: January 15, 2012, 08:37:31 AM
the chain maybe split into 2 ways on 15th Feb.

Source?

Search "Gavin" on the forum. We will upgrade the bitcoin protocol on that day. It's most likely that it will be smooth and successful, but there are still uncertainties.
the search function, only works where you are. go outside of this thread and try again

Music can only be created so well on a volunteer basis.

Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven created great pieces without copyright.

They were for the most part, paid by
... governments.

That's a good point. It might be more efficient to just *gasp* fund the arts directly by governments. Yes, there is a subjective element and there would be some rent-seeking corruption, but at least it would allow us free speech while still providing enough intellectual goodies.

Government funded art= Free speech? Or did I misunderstand?

Lack of IP = free speech
Government funding to the arts would provide a public good WITHOUT stripping away an essential human right.
depends on how it's funded. some say that taxes is an act of stripping away essential human right, you know?

let me rephrase that for you...

Q. how has China lost?
A. US owes them money.

good luck getting any of it.

so US, is planning to ... Destroy their own reputation

i wouldn't exactly say 'planning to'... it's happening by accident.

well they could pay the money back, and still starve. then they would have a better rep.

so US, is planning to do a Greece on China? Destroy their own reputation, so no one gonna do business with them, anytime soon? sure thing!

may america starve to dead, as long as they have "freedom".

Of course the user has to have confidence in the advertised public key of the merchant which is probably best served by a locked down server via SSL.
but then again: you have to trust a SSL provider, Cert. authority.
1573  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Actual Issues With Ron Paul (Legally defining "Life", Science Funding, etc) on: January 14, 2012, 11:20:56 AM
As if that matters when it gets to that level. There is a reason the US has gotten away with its bullshit the last 60 years. They have a military ready to fight two fronts at once at any time, ready to go. The invasion you describe is lose-lose, and this has been the plan for decades. If, or when, the US falls it won't be to an invasion.
not if RP get to be president.
1574  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Actual Issues With Ron Paul (Legally defining "Life", Science Funding, etc) on: January 14, 2012, 11:11:25 AM
I owe you $100 and I have a problem. I owe you $1,000,000,000,000 and you have a problem.
you still have a problem, if you own me $1,000,000,000,000. i could stop doing business with you, and 'starve' you to dead(no more iphones for you). or invade you, and take whats rightfully mine.
1575  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Actual Issues With Ron Paul (Legally defining "Life", Science Funding, etc) on: January 14, 2012, 10:57:45 AM
America is going down the tubes.

RP can't fix it

What's there to discuss?
FTFY

America, is gonna lose big time to China, RP or not.

China has already lost big time to america. What makes you say that?
how has China lost? US owes them money, china haves a Huge population, and generally happy and satisfied people. sure that are some critics.

sure America have some useless ethics and moral. but that does not make people happy.
the US have lost big time to China.

I will agree piracy is not the same as theft; I think anyone here will agree sopa is a horrible idea. But that doesnt mean its even a remotely sane idea to abolish intellectual property all together.
why not?
its an absurd thing to have ownership of an idea, and actually to think of an idea as your property.

if you want to have ownership of idea/music/copiable KEEP IT TO YOURSELF IN YOUR HEAD.
1579  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what if someone tries to genarate a huge number of bitcoin addresses.... on: January 11, 2012, 07:24:52 PM
Common misconception

2^256 doesn't look very big.  I mean it is just 256 little bits.  Hell we have 2^64 computers right now and 2^32 is already a limit for memory beyond 4GB in windows.

2^256 is so large that conceptually if you took the largest visualization of it you can come up with and then squared it you would likely still be off by many magnitudes.

correction, bitcoin addresses used Ripemd-160, to hash addresses, so you would only have 2^160 not 2^256.

but its still HUGE!

It would take millions of years to generate one percent of addresses with a supercomputer.
You are very very wrong.

It takes like more than the age of the universe to generate less than one percent of addresses with entire planets of supercomputers
and you are very very far off. Tongue
maybe all the planets, filled with huge supercomputers(preferably AMD GPUs, not NVIDIA), in a BIG galaxy, would generate you around 0.01% in the age of the universe.
