161  Other / Meta / Re: Essential help on: April 09, 2019, 09:29:07 PM
I just had a quick look at modlog, and found 2 topics that were removed, in connection with the user  Nezar Ayach

Code:
Remove topic: Bitcoin is never dead! in topic #5127814 by member #2573043
Code:
Remove topic: [APR 2019] الرسوم منخفضة ، استخدم هذه الفرصة لتوحيد in topic #5127699 by member #2573043

Also, the  Nezar Ayach profile had only 12 posts / activities, but has already received 2 merits so far for 2 posts (which has already been deleted too, like the topics above)

Quote
April 06, 2019, 10:55:44 PM: 1 from SyGambler for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)
April 03, 2019, 04:40:56 PM: 1 from khaled0111 for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)

found another line in the modlog:
Code:
Autoban user: N/A in topic #0 by member #2573043

I can really understand that the user wants that account back, because he/she had already 2 merits, which is really precious thing these days...
162  Other / Meta / Re: Why don't we have a point system for bad posts? on: April 05, 2019, 09:37:27 PM
The demerit-idea would be used to get rid of undeserved Merits.
....
OK, but how can we prevent deserved merits, not to be demerited because of revenge, hate, different point of views, etc?
If there will be some groups, who will start to demerit the other groups' members, the hard earned merits could vanish in a very little time...
163  Other / Meta / Re: The forum is slowly changing on: April 04, 2019, 05:11:06 AM
The change I have notice is decrease in shitposting in boards much attention have been given like boars in the bitcoin subsection unlike before we now have less shitposters spamming those boards.
...
I'm just wondering if reporting has any effect in this situation (that you see less shitposts in the bitcoin section). And also, if there's any effect of the the well advertised reporting badge that will come in the near future sometime Tongue

166  Other / Meta / Re: Carefully give (sMerit). on: March 30, 2019, 04:20:41 PM
Merit should remain what it was before, a reward for a good post.
Good post needs to be checked, at least for plagiarism, which is a showstopper for giving out merits. If someone copies a good post (partially, or spinned, doesn't matter) in order to receive merits, the merit shouldn't be rewarded. If you have a lot of smerits, you should not start to pour them everywhere, smerit is a kind of rare thing and people should handle it that way...
A quick check before sending out smerit won't harm anyone...

168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My friend told me a new concept Lightning Network, but I don't fully understand on: March 22, 2019, 09:13:29 PM
Can someone explain it to me? I heard that the transaction speed would be much more faster, but I don't know how it works
And as always, google is everyone's friend, so don't worry to start a google search, I'm sure you'll get more information about LN that you have expected...
LN is not a secret thing, a lot of people are using it and even more people are talking about it around the world...
169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JP Morgan completely changes its stance on bitcoin on: March 22, 2019, 09:09:25 PM
The fact that they are releasing their own crytpocurrency means that they are bullush on crypto don't you think?

No. Their 'coin' is not a cryptocurrency. It's a dollar token that uses elements of cryptocurrency's technology to operate.

It has the exact same issues as the dollar itself with plenty of its own on top as an extra enticement. And it doesn't look like it'll be available to anyone other than the banks themselves for their internal operations.
It can be pure marketing strategy too...
What happened in 2017? A lot of people saw bitcoin to climb to the ATH and now they know a little bit about cryptos. (a really little bit). They also heared about the huge fall in the price of bitcoin.
They know that the price of bitcoin can fall because of the supply and demand on the short and long run, but they also know that the technology behind won't fail, so they trust the technology instead of the coin itself.
If you are a bank, how would you get more customers? You should differentiate yourself from the competitors. Banks are identical in services (nearly), so what makes people choose a bank is the 'brand'. A stronger brand means more customers on the long run. How could you make your brand stronger? You should make people trust in your bank and what is the base of the trust? It's the safety of your money.
Now if you state publicly that you are going to develop and install a new back end system that makey your bank even more secure (because of the new blockchain technology, or something similar) people will  belive you and would trust you even more. You don't even have to tell technical details, because people can't check what system do you use behind the scenes, so it's totally up to the marketing guys what they say and how they say it, to make the brand stronger... Like this communication from JP, it won't tell you much details but it's enough to make people belive that they will be better with the new system, and this is exactly what they want to achive.
170  Other / Meta / Re: [SUGGESTION] Lock Threads on: March 22, 2019, 08:47:22 PM
I don't know if those members you mention are already wearing a signature when they try to apply in different signature campaign for a spot, but it's possible that they don't really want a spot, but they just growing their post count for their current signature campaing.
Ignoring these posts would be the easiest solution.
Another solution could be to report them to the mods, so those posts are deleted sooner or later, so those people will stop doing this because no post, no money...
171  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk was down for minutes. Was it a test for coming April Fool? on: March 22, 2019, 06:17:22 AM
This error message tends to pop up on other websites too, usually when the running service on the server is not able to respond in time to the request and instead of a 404 this 503 is a 'softer' type of error message and promise a quick recovery for the users, so much better than leaving the users in doubt with a 404 when the website is down for some little time because of anything. So this does not mean any real update, upgrade all the time it's used, it can be a quick reboot, restart of a hanged service, etc.... (But correct me if I'm totally wrong, this is my observation)
172  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Ok, here's a 1BTC puzzle. on: March 21, 2019, 05:57:41 AM
Has anyone read Duality.pdf maybe written by satoshi?
some people think it's not him.
And how it's connected with this puzzle? Does it give any extra hints to solve?  Huh

Anyway, that time when this puzzle was started, I thought that by this time it will already be solved...
173  Other / Meta / Re: What's the essence of reporting topic to be moved if they can be moved back. on: March 15, 2019, 10:30:47 PM
I reported several topics from Bitcoin Discussion to be moved to another part of the forum but none of them were moved back by the OP after...
(The reason is simple, most of them were just simply deleted by mods, because those topics were just meaningless or low quality ones....)
But as soon as I would notice that a topic (I have reported and has been moved to the proper board by a mod) has been moved back to Bitcoin Discussion by the OP, I would just report it again with a note to the Mod that the topic should be locked instead of moving it again...
174  Other / Meta / Re: Zero To Hero in under 4 months. (My Merit Journey). on: March 14, 2019, 09:31:35 PM
Good job OP, keep up the good work Smiley
Newbies can have a look at your achievement, so they can't say that ranking up is impossible because of the new merit system...
Also, don't forget to spread the love merits whereever you go on the forum to let the others (who deserve it) to rank up too.
175  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Ok, here's a 1BTC puzzle. on: March 14, 2019, 09:10:36 PM
...
How to verify this signiture? How to do this?
Just copy the data to the required fields. Make sure you don't miss any space, line break, special characters, etc, because if you fail to copy it as a whole, the signature checker will give false result.
If you don't trust signature checker websites, you can use any wallet that offers this kind of feature.
Also, if you google for e.g. bitcoin signature checker, you'll find a lot of help Smiley
176  Other / Meta / Re: What topics do you want to see here, and where should they be posted? on: March 13, 2019, 11:02:54 PM
Lately I've been thinking about ways to spend any bitcoin that I get my hands on, and I'd really like to see an updated (and maintained) list of online merchants that accept bitcoin as payment.
...
If you sign up for a bitcoin backed debit card (I know it's really rare to find a really working one, there were topics, updated regurarly in the past, about these cards), you can buy things from every merchant using your bitcoins. But I know that you have to complete KYC and AML checks to be able to get a working bictoin debit card, so it won't be a good solution for everyone who wants to spend bitcoins here.
In a few years time we'll see who will accept bitcoin and who will use different coins for instant payments...
177  Other / Meta / Re: ★ Benefit of Merit Competition on Signature Campaign ★ on: March 13, 2019, 10:54:07 PM
I certainly don't think that this method of selecting constructive posts is correct because in my opinion there are people whose posting quality is damn good but don't get enough merits on their posts.
FYI: if you find something like that, you can post the link to [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source
That's a really useful thread, merit sources and other members with spendable merits are visiting that topic to check those posts.
I saw that if someone needs only a few merits to rank up, merit sources are happy to check the post history to see if the member creates quality posts, and if yes, they have managed to rank up several members since the opening to that thread.
It's a bit similar to the old review topics of the merit sources but concentrated into one place
178  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: March 13, 2019, 10:30:44 PM
I don't understand what so hard about implementing it?
There's one very busy Admin with a long Todo list who gets many requests. Anything that can be created by users provides extra functionality without taking Admin's time.

More importantly don't forget every single feature added is a potential back door security risk for the forum. Making sure it is not also takes time. I would be happier with a stale featureless SECURE forum than an unsecure one with lots of bells and whistles.

This is  a 'good old' stlye forum, and it's still working fine for the purpose...
People will choose another forum if that another forum would have the features of this forum plus something additional that's missing here now.
But people are still here and using this forum, so we should not hurry implementing new untested features...
Anyway the new forum software (a really brand new) is under testing now, so the new feature requests should go there directly, it has better chance to get it implemented in the new forum software...

179  Other / Meta / Re: How about "bookmarks" for topics? on: March 08, 2019, 09:17:59 PM
I'm currently reading a few topics (without posting) and it's hard to search them every time. I think, it would be nice to have a tab, where you can keep all the topics you liked and planning to read in the future.

Let me know, what you think.
Try the watchlist function, and just click 'watch' if a topic is interesting but you don't want to post in in.
You can have a look at your watchlist and remove the unnecessary topics from it, so it will only contain the required stuff. (Use the 'edit watchlist' link if you have opened the watchlist).
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pension funds bringing money to Bitcoin. on: March 08, 2019, 09:06:46 PM
It is really interesting that at last some pension funds have wet their feet in cryptocurrency investing. Someone is going to be very happy or very pissed off in the future. What do you think of this? It is really a breakthrough for crypto as an investment?
Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-02-12/first-u-s-pension-funds-take-the-plunge-on-crypto-investing
With the current price of bitcoin that Would be a good sign for crypto market as a whole. The more money flows in crypto the more chance it would goes up and it would be a win win situation to all crypto investor.
This is not as easy as this....
the more money flows in.... but what happen if the money is not enough that flows in? That would cause the price to go still down, so the investors will sell instead of buy...
