1061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the weight of Europe in today's Bitcoin market? on: December 31, 2017, 02:25:17 PM
...

Interesting numbers stompix, thanks for sharing.

@bitart: do you mean Advcash or such service? Yes sadly I heard only mastercard registered in SEPA zone are available now. I heard about Epayments as an alternative, I think they deliver their service to America but i'll make sure to double check this.
One of the oldest and biggest bitcoin linked debit card provider is XAPO, but don't check it's thread here on the forum because you will only find problems and nothing about their service. They had a really wide customer base worldwide but because of the US regulations XAPO has decided to provide it's services to EU citizens only, so a lot of account has been closed. So it's understandable that XAPO has received negative feedback from a lot of users, although they provide an exceptional debit card with a good mobile wallet too. (But if you have an issue, their support is really slow (very slow), that's true, so they are good as long as you don't have any problem.)
1062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Successfull test ot Lighning for Bitcoin on: December 31, 2017, 02:16:18 PM
I think this are good news for bitcoin. At the moment bitcoin have a real problem with the high fees. Hope this is a solution for this problem. Smiley
This isn't the problem anymore i made 2 transactions in past 2 days and set a fees of 80 sat i thought it would take hours to confirm but i was able to get 1 confirmation in 5 minutes and second time it took 3 min i don't think the speed or fees is the issue for btc.
I don't much about technical stuff i just hope this isn't temporary.
If you have a look at the mempool's fee structure (https://blockchain.info/charts/mempool-state-by-fee-level) you can see that the highest fee for most of the transactions is around 70 sat/B, which is really good thing now. A week before (or two weeks) this was around 400 sat/B and or over. Maybe the holiday season has this impact or the year end was really busy for bitcoin, but we will see in January if this trend will continue or the mempool will be full again with transactions sent with high fee.
1063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the weight of Europe in today's Bitcoin market? on: December 30, 2017, 10:26:16 PM
If you have a look at prepaid or normal debit cards linked to bitcoin, Europe has a major part in the market (knowing the fact that US is out from the game, because of regulations). I won't underestimate the role of Europe in the market of bitcoin, also if we compare the possible investments, and let's say that an average person wants to invest in bitcoin, the amount to be invested is different. If, lets say, the person wants to invest a kind of money he can afford to lose, it means e.g. 1,000 EUR/year in the EU but it's not that much in the Asian region (just comparing the everyday spendings and the costs of the living).
Japan is an exception because they're already into bitcoin, so their influence is much higher now.
1064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to think in decentralized exchanges? on: December 30, 2017, 03:37:00 PM
Decentralized exchanges are already exist (but only on the ethereum blockchain, like etherdelta for the ERC20 tokens). If somehow bitcoin could have this kind of decentralized exchanges, the current exchanges will be used for fiat to crypto exhanges (where the AML and KYC regulations are mandatory because of the fiat) and not for crytp to crypto exchanges).
1065  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Successfull test ot Lighning for Bitcoin on: December 30, 2017, 03:27:32 PM
Because of this successful test, it's high time to start to educate people about the Lightning Network. Only a little part of the bitcoiners have information about this Lightning Network. Expectations are high and everybody thinks that LN solves the high fee and slow confirmation problems, but the development is not finished yet and there's much to do for the successfull integration not only into the live blockchain but to the wallets and for the exchanges as well.
1066  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is this a good advice? on: December 29, 2017, 10:33:05 PM
Bitcoin price is rising up in rocket speed and penny-pinching mind is always yelling that hold.. hold and hold your Bitcoins. Don't convert to fiat or spend them. But, there's a big risk...what to do?. This is a question somebody asked me today.

I didn't answer at him, but, thought deeply about that and got the following mind.

If you've 10BTC convert 5BTC into fiat and wait until the remainder is reaching to 10BTC and do the same again.

Is this a good advice?

This is something everyone has to decide for themselves and depends on a few things. Some people just want to profit from BTC in short term, others have plan to hold for long time.If you have 10BTC and need money for something there is nothing wrong to sell 5BTC or more/less amount.

If you invest in BTC, holding is always risky in terms of price, you can lose money or you can profit from that. For people who can not live with such risk BTC is not option for investing, better buy gold or something like that.

I am not sure what you want to say with convert 5BTC in fiat, when you sell them you have only left 5BTC-you think to sell that remaining 5BTC when they double price or what?
A bit hard to understand because I think he was talking about 5 Bitcoins but was thinking about the fiat equivalent of it.
Just use the price $10,000 per BTC as an example (easier to do the maths): He meant that he has 10 Bitcoins, worths $100,000. He sells 5 bitcoins and he will still have $50,000 worth bitcoins (5 BTC). If the price doubles (goes to $20,000) then he will have same amount in fiat ($100,000) like in the beginning and using the original price ($10,000) it worths 10 BTC again.
The problem is that you can't count always in fiat when you talk about BTC, it's just not as simple.
1067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hardware Wallets Difficult to Use on: December 28, 2017, 11:35:27 PM
a hw wallet is nothing but a usb stick. Forget it. it's really dumb to use.  All hw wallets have backup that you need to print on paper, so why not just use a paper wallet and save yourself 100 USD?
And how do you want to use your paper wallet safely? Just typing your private key from the paper into some webpage or into a wallet software on the PC? What about keyloggers and malware? If you use a hardware wallet, it stores the private key and you don't need to bother with it, and also it signs a transaction on the device itself so the private key won't get to your PC anytime. This security worth that price, especially, if you store a decent amount of coins on the device.
1068  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All eyes on Japan in 2018 on: December 28, 2017, 11:29:32 PM
Japan has managed to use bitcoin with these fees and with the high confirmation times so as soon as LN goes live it will be much better for them to use bitcoin for everyday things. According to NEM and MONA they will be accepted for a while still and the usage of LN will determine if they will be accepted in the future or bitcoin will be the one and only. What other countries should learn from Japan in connection with bitcoin is that if you can rule it (and not ban it) you can make advantage out of it at the end...
1069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lighting network on: December 27, 2017, 07:34:45 PM
Hi guys,

I´m new on the crypto eco system and be pleased about some interessting discussions.

What do you think when will lightning go live, Q2 or Q3?

Thanks and best regards
I hope it won't last as long as you wrote. The Lightning Network is working now on the testnet and there's an open test channel on the live blockchain too (but just for test purposes). The implementation of Lightning Network doesn't need any fork (nor soft neither hard fork) so as soon as the developers think it's ready it will simply go live on the live chain too. What we need to wait is to have the payment channels open and to wait for the users to learn how it works.
1070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost bitcoin wallet Bitcoin inside lost forever. on: December 26, 2017, 09:37:02 PM
Yes! When we lost our wallet that contains bitcoins it will be lost forever. Can it be recover? I think so. But most of it didn't recovered.

The ones who can't recover their bitcoins if wallet is lost are the people who are not prepared well enough to handle Bitcoin. If they did read thoroughly before jumping into bitcoin, what it is, what is a bitcoin wallet, what is a seed and what is a recovery phrase then surely they would recover their bitcoins most of the time. Information is key in our time to be successful in every venture we take, especially bitcoin, that's the conclusion I have arrived at by watching and keeping account of most of the facts regarding bitcoin in general.
This is why Hardware wallets are such a huge thing to have. Any amount of crypto over $100 needs to be on a hardware wallet and the recovery words need to be in a secure known place or even physically encrypted.
My man, I like you just because you said something about jumping, the task I haven't been able to perform thus far, though I'm not sure about physically encrypting something, maybe you are referring to locking the paper wallet in a safe? how could some body lose their wallets? all it is required a pencil and a piece of paper, extending your seed with extra words would further secure your wallet as well. there is no need to memorize keys and passwords.
How can I get a hardware wallet?

Easy, you can buy them:
Trezor:
https://shop.trezor.io
Ledger Nano S:
https://www.ledgerwallet.com
There are several hardware wallets on the market too, but these two are the most known and used.
The ledger is cheaper a bit, but you should count the postage fee too, so it depends on the country you want it to get shipped to.
1071  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How to buy on Bittrex? on: December 26, 2017, 02:12:05 PM
Hey guys,

Can anyone guide me on how to buy bitcoin on Bittrex.com? what currency (US dollar) can i use on the site to make purchase? If so, how?
I see people over there are buying but I have no clue how they are paying in various amounts to buy.
You can only trade bitcoins for altcoins and vica-versa on Bittrex. You should already have bitcoins in order to be able to trade on Bittrex. If you have bitcoin, you can easily upload your coins onto your Bittrex account, but be aware that you cannot withdraw your coins once you have finished trading only if you verify yourself on the site with your ID. You should buy bitcoins on other exchanges mentioned above.
1072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost bitcoin wallet Bitcoin inside lost forever. on: December 26, 2017, 02:07:44 PM
Yes! When we lost our wallet that contains bitcoins it will be lost forever. Can it be recover? I think so. But most of it didn't recovered.
Mainly yes, but it depends on the type of the wallet itself.
If it was a paper wallet or a brain wallet (when you use the private key directly) than it will be impossible nearly.
If it was a desktop wallet, and the HDD damaged, there are possible ways to recover the HDD and save the wallet.dat file. If it was a mobile wallet, it depends on the mobile OS.
If it was a web wallet, the wallet provider can help you to access your wallet again.
Most of the wallets have backup methods, it's really useful to backup the wallets periodically. Also, wallets can help you providing the seed and if you have the seed, you can recover the wallet without any hassle.
1073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Сryptocurrency Phobia - new social phenomenon on: December 25, 2017, 09:35:48 PM
All these problems (or the root of the problem) can be handled with education. If people know bitcoin they won't afraid of it. If they know that it's not a ponzi and not an MLM they will start to belive. How can people get educated today? Not from books and not in the school. The only possible channel is the media, the internet-connected social media sites and the online news sites. They are (the media) also uneducated about bitcoin, so we can't expect that they can start to educate people the decent way. This is why the media only use bitcoin related content to make people afraid of the crypto world. As long as governments and the media is against bitcoin, it will be hard to reach the people to share the necessary knowledge.
1074  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning Network on: December 25, 2017, 08:35:53 PM
I'm not an expert in the Lightning Network, but I'm interested in the answer if the above stated is true or not. My understanding is that the sum fee of passing each LN hub should always be smaller compared to the Bitcoin fees. The balance of the LN hubs should not be a problem because if someone has not enough bitcoin than why would he open a hub? Just to lock the funds? If someone opens a channel it's not for a short time, so there's no need to pay a fee for the closure, because it can be open for a longer time. If the other people use the channel it makes him money so on the long run, it can be profitable.
1075  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Long Before Transactions are Rejected? on: December 25, 2017, 02:30:31 PM
I sent some Bitcoin on the 7th of December, and it is still pending.
It was only a small amount (0.00584902 BTC), but it's still something I'm curious to know.

Thanks!
Tx number or another wallet address please, it's easier to say something about possibilities when we can have a look at the transaction itself. (Fees, etc., the address in your signature has no transaction nor balance).
The expiration of a transaction was 3 days in the old times but now it's about 2 weeks and it's not automatic, it's possible that some nodes won't drop it from their mempool and you can expect confirmation, but the time is depending on the fee. If it was 0 fee, then it won't get confirmed, but if it has a fee higher than 10sat/B there's a chance that it will get into a block (sooner or) later.
1076  Other / Off-topic / Re: what wallet can you recommend? on: December 25, 2017, 02:21:43 PM
All wallet are nice, but it depends on you if what wallet will you want to chose, there are many wallets you can chose if you want.
In current situation is majority of the hackers are increasing in digital market. So we should safe our wallet account. Different types of wallets are available in the market. We should choose the best secured wallet because some online wallets are not safe. Paper wallets are best secured and easy to access in anywhere in anytime.
I don't really think that paper wallets are so easy to access or use... If your PC is connected to the internet, you can't be 100% sure (if you don't need 100% then paper wallet is OK) that you are the only one who see the private key when you enter it into your web/desktop wallets when you are about to spend some bitcoins from the paper wallet. Also, when you have spent some of your bitcoins from a paper wallet, it's safer to move the rest to another paper wallet, just to be on the safe side. This is valid for bitcoin and ethereum too. Paper wallets are really handy to store but when it's about spending, it becomes complicated if you care about security.
1077  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how I rescued my wallet.dat on: December 24, 2017, 11:23:11 PM
I already cashed it out. Now I'm syncing the Bitcoin Cash wallet and then importing the private keys to this wallet again, because of course there was Bitcoin on it at August 1st this year. Current exchange rate is 0.2 BTC for one Bitcoin Cash. Probably I will convert it on Poloniex and hold it as Bitcoin then.
And also don't forget about Bitcoin Gold and about the recent 'noname' forks too Smiley
I have no experience with Bitcoin Gold yet, but be really careful there were problems with their desktop wallet install, so if you want to mess with it, take care about your existing coins.
I have just found this topic, the brain wallet donation was a nice idea, but you should have taken into account that this is holiday season, so there were a few members only to grab those coins from that brainwallet. As I see it took more than a day for someone to find your topic and to find the hidden treasure  Smiley
1078  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Confirmation Unconfirmed in day 3? on: December 24, 2017, 10:44:38 PM
Low fees are a common problem due to the network requiring higher fees currently. You can either wait until it confirms or drops and try and push the transaction.
Try to use the ViaBtc accelerator, the free acceleration is available every hour in the first second, there's 100 spot to take. If you are quick and lucky enough, you can accelerate your transaction for free. I've checked, both of the transactions have a kind of fee that would be enough in the normal days, but nowdays those fees are not enough.
https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/
If you manage to take one spot, your transaction will be confirmed usually in one hour and you'll have your 6 confirmations in a few hours max (usually). But be prepared that there are a lot of people waiting for that first second to take one of the hundred spots...
1079  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warning, because indications of a cryptocurrency crime wave may occur in 2018 on: December 24, 2017, 10:37:23 PM
Hello everyone....this News  a story about indication in the next years "2018 cryptocurrency crime wave ", A lot of it Cryptocurrencies, certainly obvious more criminal acts , Therefore we as users or owners must be more careful, As an ( example ) more thoroughly for protect account and always update software or antivirus is in need ,to avoid the crime that is not in want . So ..... Get ready for a 2018 cryptocurrency crime wave !!  if you follow the (example ) that has been delivered, obviously you are ready.... Grin or Any idea and good solution ??

Or, buy a hardware wallet, you can use that even on a compromised PC in a dark internet cafe in downtown, where there's only open wifi and the PCs are full with keyloggers and viruses, because hardware wallets doesn't send the private keys to the PC, they sign the transaction inside itself and they just send the signed messages back to the PC. Of course this is very extreme example, and you should be extra careful every time even you use a hardware wallet but for now this is one of the safest solutions available.
1080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying bitcoin with credit cards ... Need review on: December 24, 2017, 02:57:52 PM
Hello bitcoin community

I need review in terms of feedback for one of my project which relates to bitcoin and other crypto exchange services.

I have an online delivery service with which I perform courier and sentiments delivery services in my region. I am accepting upfront payments PayPal and payment via credit cards. I am interested to use this module of service for crypto exchange services .Like buying and selling of Bitcoin and other crypto currency with credit cards.

I need review of users about this service platform. My business module is based on the fact that I have trusted currency vendors from my region who can supply me any quantity of crypto currency of any value and nature. For the end user I can refer him to my website to proceed through payment through credit card and then once I get it credited I can release the equivalent crypto currency.

I request members of this forum to give a feedback on this? Share your experience with similar project portfolios?  Do and not to Do tactics of such project. Suggest standards terms of service. Even come up and be my vendor partner for this business.

I thank in advance any feedback received in this thread. Waiting to hear from you soon.

Basically, you will sell cryptocurrencies and customers will pay by credit card.  This is the second dangerous option you can choose, the first one is Paypal. If you accept these kind of payments, you won't be able to fight for your right, is the buyer wants to scam you and start a dispute in PayPal or starts a chargeback at the credit card company (bank). Paypal and banks always decide in the favour of the buyer and not you if it's about cryptocurrencies. If you think that you can make a kind of higher fee (10-20%) in your prices accepted by the customers to cover your losses because of the above mentioned problems, it's possible that  you can make profit at the end.
