261  Other / Meta / Re: I've stopped reporting posts on: January 02, 2019, 11:08:12 PM
I think I've only reported about 100 posts with 97% accuracy, but I see that as 3% failure. If I fail. then I like to know the reason for the failure so that I can improve my performance. I was going to report the thread I mentioned because of the title, and the lack of information in the OP. Normally I wouldn't have opened the thread, but I was in one of my "Lets improve the Internet" moods. Smiley

Did I read that it is now possible to view a listing of our post reports. If so, that would solve the problem for me.
There's no need to stop reporting, because of the accuracy. I had also 97% before, even lower around 95%, when I have reported only a few hundred posts, but now I'm improving my accuracy...
Code:
You have reported 763 posts with 99% accuracy (741 good, 10 bad, 12 unhandled).
I have managed to get back to 99%, but I've slowed down and I only report something if I'm 100% sure that it will be a good report. Still, I have to report a few hundred posts more and I can reach the 100% accuracy again (e.g. 10 bad vs. 1001 good, that's only 0,99999999% bad, hopefully 100% good Smiley ).
I know that this is not the preferred kind of reporting style, but I'm a kind of perfectionist... if something can be 100%, I have to go for the 100%.
So keep calm and report on Cheesy
262  Other / Meta / Re: Is this the new low in posting here. on: January 02, 2019, 10:33:40 PM

This list can be used to create a system of alerts that run to detect users who use these standard phrases. This would identify accounts whose purpose is to only increase account activity and use for spam, farm or shitposting.
"Passionate" spammers would just put some more punctuation into the post, in order to flee the automatic reports...
If you want to create a kind of automation to remove the average shitposts, you just can't publish the rules of that system, because farmers are also reading Meta (and also posting there with their alts Cheesy ) and they will just adapt their autospam system in the next second, not to waste their precious resources...
263  Other / Meta / Re: How activity is calculated for beginners on: January 02, 2019, 10:09:45 PM

People nowadays doesn't have the power of ignore as consideration.
As Vod said:
Quote
Ok, I think that was a cheap trick to get extra merits...    Tongue
Or, that wasn't a cheap trick but was agreed before to create a "useful" topic in meta with technical stuff in and someone can merit it "accidentally" because it was looking so useful, and haven't noticed that it was just merit fishing...
264  Other / Meta / Re: A different approach to solving the sig spamming problem. on: January 02, 2019, 09:24:44 PM

and added automatically for responsible posts
...
How could an automated system decide if a post is OK or not? Sorry if I misunderstood something

...
Rather than all this, we could have a simpler solution, where you lose 1 merit for each activity period in which you display a signature.

I really like this idea, why not, it would motivate the members to post quality things...
But it would be fine for every 3rd or 5th activity period, 1 merit spammers would fade away in 2 months time anyway, but the stress won't be so hard on the normal members
265  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: December 31, 2018, 09:47:10 PM
Minor update, arrived home safely today. Got a fever so the double round will continue as planned; I'm likely unable to get though post counting tomorrow
Get better soon, post count and everything can wait, don't worry about that.
Happy New Year to everyone Smiley
266  Other / Meta / Ban evasion if a user asks for changing his account in a bounty because of ban? on: December 25, 2018, 02:18:37 PM
Possible ban evasion?
Found this post on the Patrol page:
Hi Admin. My old Bitcointalk account is banned. I  participated in Sabiglobal facebook bounty. Spreadsheet number is 62. mistersehmuz is my old account. 1789fallenangel1789 is the new one. If it is possible pls change my account name at spreadsheet.

Is this a ban evasion that the user states that his/her old account has been banned and this is the new?

267  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/pasting) here. Calling for Mod action: please permban on: December 25, 2018, 02:01:15 PM
I've found something that can help to search for plagiarism:
In firefox, there's an addon that can search the highlighted text with one click from a popup menu in a new tab with a google search, it's called Selection Context Search addon.
I've opened the Patrol page and selected the following post: (BANNED now)
Great project, Strong and well coordinated team, so there are very high chances of success here! In addition, the high-quality implementation of the platform inspires confidence.
Archive
I've selected the post (highlighted a part of the whole post) and opened the google search.

The first match was just perfect:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Rateonium/comments/99kol6/great_project_strong_and_well_coordinated_team_so/

This addon can save some clicks and some time while searching for copypaste posts....
268  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Bitcoin fractional banking? on: December 22, 2018, 10:01:16 PM
...
It is convenient to keep cash or any Fiat in the bank. How would you store 10thousand dollars by yourself? Under your bed? You need the banks for that.

But it's easy to keep 10k usdin btc by yourself, and you don't need banks.
You are fine because you know how to do that.
The Average Joe who don't know how to secure their computer, how to avoid phising links and malware... they won't be so confident. If they are not confident, there comes the bank, because they trust the bank now (and people are not used to be in control of their full amount of money these days...)
So most of them would rely on a bank to handle their cryptos, as soon as the banks (or any kind of financial service providers, who are trustable enough) will start to handle them. You can be sure that governments would suggest/force it (to let the banks handle the money of the people, fiat or crypto), or they would create their own crypto and make people use it instead of bitcoin and other decentralized cryptos (via the banks).
People lack too much knowledge about financial things (money management, technical things, etc...) because they were not forced to know these things, it's easy to have only a bank card and have all the money in the bank, safe and sound, needs to know the PIN only and that's all.
They know that the bank charges some monthly fee for keeping the account but that's all, they are not interested in the background, because they don't have that much money that would make them care.
The difference is if you have a lot of money and you don't trust the banks or the goverment... in this case you need an independent solution, this is where cryptos comes in.

269  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Bitcoin fractional banking? on: December 22, 2018, 05:25:34 PM
Fractional banking is not possible with blockchain technology, as far as I understand.
...
Let's suppose banks wanna do it will Bitcoin.  Your bitcoin address allows you track where your Bitcoin is. It's a public ledger. There is no way for a bank to receive 5 BTC and lend 20, because blockchain does not allow them to do so. If they buy stocks or lend it, you will be able to see. It's auditable by anyone.
...
As long as they keep your BTC balance they owe you just in their books and you can't check it on the blockchain, they can give out as many BTC loans as they wish, the important thing for them to have the necessary liquidity in BTC when you want to withdraw your BTC.
In this case it's the same as the fiat system.
Just an example:
I've checked the available BTC debit cards lately, and found out that according to this excel the most suitable is Wirex if you are in the EU, and others are if you are in the US.
I read thru Wirex's fine print and found out that it's just an electronic bank with a possibility of using BTC debit card, but:
your BTC balance is stored in a 'cold storage' and you won't have your own BTC address to check your funds. You can only check your balance inside their app or on their website. Even, you cannot send in any BTC, because they don't allow it, you can only buy BTC using their exchange, this is the way you can use your BTC debit card to spend BTC (you previously bought there).
So it seems there's nothing that can prevent them to use the same mechanism with your BTC funds, just like it was fiat or anything...

270  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: this is what Petro (Venezuela) is about - coercion and robbery on: December 22, 2018, 05:06:51 PM
They already use bitcoin and the other major cryptocurrencies, so it's understandable that they accept DASH. DASH is still better than their state owned centralized crypto, way better...
271  Other / Meta / Re: Alternatives to Permabans for plagarism on: December 21, 2018, 09:36:31 PM
if you are motivated enough to go through the many years and thousands of posts on my legendary account

Not sure how to break this to you gently but you're not really a Legendary.
It's just an opinion from someone who has a legendary account but just registered a new one to express this opinion (just in case if someone would start to review his/her older posts for copypaste, after...)
272  Other / Meta / Re: Alternatives to Permabans for plagarism on: December 21, 2018, 08:19:50 PM

Another possibility to earn their signature back would to be make x good reports - this would need to have an additional requirement of >x% accuracy to prevent spamming the report button. Say 5000 reports with >95%?
...
That makes no sense setting up an x good report limit, this has been discussed before.
Imagine your life depends on x good report (escaping permaban). Would it be hard to register 10 or 100 or 500 fake accounts and post that x copypaste post with them, and your original account would report those and voilá, you just managed to get to the required x good reports, and you're free...
And the forum has managed to get another x unnecessary spam posts...
273  Other / Meta / Re: Let us devise a Sensible solution to Copy and Paste situation. on: December 21, 2018, 07:57:20 PM
...
That's not a good idear at all... For example, if i had some kind of grudge against somebody, I could just copy one of their original posts and paste it on my blog with a backdated timestamp, so it looks my blog article is older than the original post my victim made... Then i could just click the button => BAM autoban.
...
Then copy somebody else's work and post it on my blog with a backdated timestamp... Then i could create a newbie account on bitcointalk over my VPN or tor, and get a senior member autobanned... Sure, maybe the ban wouldn't stick, but the member would still lose access to his/her account for a while untill the admin has time to look at his ban appeal and unban his account.

I'm not in favor of an automatic ban mechanism...
...
Something similar has already happened against OP in the report topic, check this:

274  Other / Meta / Re: Multiple accounts plagiarized OP in Bitcoin discussion on: December 21, 2018, 01:28:17 PM
When someone just copy and paste and article from some bitcoin related website into a new topic in Bitcoin Discussion, I usually report it like "This should move to Press section" or something similar, because in the Press, you can find these bitcoin related articles. But, somehow these topics are always deleted Smiley
So don't lose the hope, and report on until something happens to Bitcoin Discussion Smiley

Spam is heavily reduced and with the last thread from theymos regarding the new upcoming newbie restrictions  is more than overwhelming. I'm sure the total post count will drop further more after the next change.
...
Anyway cheers from the Canarian Islands, perfect place to be while the cold winter (not only political) has blocked the whole Europe.
Sorry for bothering on your vacation Cheesy
Could you please just let me know where I can find someting about the upcoming restrictions?
I'm eager to read about them, but I can wait until you're back
276  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: December 20, 2018, 07:40:26 PM

What is the point of both users and staff wasting time on reports for users that have already been permabanned? There's enough work to be done here already without having to deal with stuff that has already been dealt with. It takes a colossal amount of time and effort for people to report copy and pasters and provide all the evidence and then it wastes staff time having to go though them all needlessly. If the user was shown as permabanned then they can just ignore it. Once a user is banned here their account is done for so I don't think it's a big deal showing that. Many other forums show even temp banned users. It would be helpful in other ways too. You could be doing business with someone and they could just disappear without warning. If they've been banned then at least you'll know why they've mysteriously gone AWOL or are not responding to your messages.
...
If there's no or little intention to show if a user has been banned (e.g. changing the rank to 'Banned' or 'Tempban' or something similar), it would be also helpful to just deactivate the 'Report to moderator' button for banned users.
This would not affect the everyday forum member, because it's only a minor part of the members who use that button, the majority won't even look at that button or even notice the existence of it...
But for those who report, it would be really useful.
Also, (it has also been suggested too) if this button would be deactivated for posts that has already been reported, it could also boost the efficiency of reporting.
So if someone only see that there's no Report to moderator button, it won't tell him/her directly that the user has been banned because it could be the post itself too, that has been reported...
This way ban could stay hidden but reporting also could win with it...
277  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB] The SpamBuster! Over 7000+ accounts reviewed : [23.11] on: December 19, 2018, 10:07:07 PM
So, everything started from this topic.
It's just an average topic from my watchlist, but from time to time spammers start to bump it and that's all.
Today I've found something strage, two users replied, and the strange thing was that their activity count is exactly the same as their post count.
Are we just after the activity period change, or this is something strange?

I've just started to follow this two user, and got to this topic:

Started from there, I just run thru on a few pages and found that there are a lot of users like this, where the activity count exactly matches the post count.
Is this something strange or just an interesting match?

As far as I saw, they are relatively old account, but with less posts than expectable, so it's possible that they have been hacked and after farmers started to post with them regurarly (1 post per day)?

Does it worth a try to just scrape the database somehow for users like this and check them for anything fishy?

Few users, who has this match (post count=activity count; link):

VB1001:
Please search the forum how to combine quotes from different posts from different members into one reply. Don't worry, it's easy
The above 2 posts has been made with 6 minutes difference, so it would be just easier to edit the first reply and insert the content of your second reply into the first post. You can also delete the second post, the topic would become more easy to read and you won't get reported in the end (it's against the rules to post several replies in a row into the same topic).
279  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos why should we use external script for find important data like ban/merit on: December 18, 2018, 09:16:14 PM
...
I would propose a simple alternative - everyone with over 1000/2000/5000/pick-a-number "good" reports gets to see which accounts are banned. These are the people who are doing the majority of the reporting and catching the majority of the plagiarizers, and these are the people whose time is being wasted the most by investigating users who are already banned. Since we know that banned accounts are already marked as such for staff, then it should be fairly easy to implement.
I like this idea, would be just fine for the purpose.
If we are facing more and more spam, efficiency can be a key for the reporters...
BTW, I can understand that theymos don't want to show to the public that half of users of the Altcoin discussion is banned already Tongue

Profile : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=555506

Kindly let me know the reason on which my account got banned.

I've checked it, and you can also check in modlog:
Code:
Autoban user: N/A in topic #0 by member #555506
You should also have received a mail into your mailbox, which would contain the approximate reason for your ban, like copypaste (plagiarism) or something similar...
So you should do some research and I'll also have a look in reporting threads, but if someone only used the report to moderator button then only a mod can give you proper answer about the reason.
