541  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: June 29, 2018, 09:25:02 PM
Someone should make a script, that users, posting combinations like “good project” “ strong team” “ great project” “good article” and etc, in posts that are shorten than 75 characters immediately should be reported.
No use (mostly). Those who use bots to post like that will just change the wording, or will make a small typo (in order not to match the search strings). Mods are already overloaded, and this automated report would generate way much more work for them...
542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: England Central Bank cryptocurrency on: June 27, 2018, 09:48:12 PM
interesting thing...
one thing is sure: Adoption will not come easily.
...
Adoption of what? This won't influence the adoption of bitcoin.
If it's about the adoption of the new national cryptocurrency, Average Joe's won't care about the kind of the payment system at the bank. (if it's a blockchain based one or not). Banks even won't be forced to change anything in connection with their current frontend of their internet bank software.
The reason is simple, the digital national currency is just a different kind of digital form of the fiat that the central bank issues.
If central banks talk about cryptocurrency or blockchain, they don't think about bitcoin but something centralized.
543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do businesses/vendors that accept crypto HODL or SELL? on: June 27, 2018, 09:26:17 PM
...
On the other hand if you're running a restaurant that accepts BTC, you will have to convert to pay your employees and buy products.
For these kind of businesses (with a BTC beliver boss) can be a solution that they only sell the amount of BTC that cover their expenses/costs and their margin (the profit) can remain in BTC. This can be a solution for holding at least a little part of the incoming BTC, and it can cause huge profit if BTC price goes up, and huge loss if not...

If you don't clear your browser's data (and not using private mode) you can be logged in for years (OK, for months, in a year time you have to upgrade and reinstall or change your PC anyway Smiley ), and you won't be bothered to log in and to solve a captcha/recaptcha.
The problem is (as were already mentioned above) when you need to log in again because of anything, you have to think hard to remember your password... (if it's not on the side of your screen on a yellow post-it, of course Smiley )
545  Other / Meta / Re: I'm new and my message got deleted? on: June 27, 2018, 08:43:40 PM
And please lock this topic (and you can learn how to lock a topic at least), in order to prevent spammers start posting meaningless posts here.
Follow the rules, and you'll be fine. Airdrops are interesting but if you read about bitcoin itself here (which the whole forum was about in the beginning) maybe you'll find that bitcoin is better than any kind of altcoins, at least on the long run.
546  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: June 24, 2018, 08:56:22 AM
...
In fact their recent posts on their post history page is doing the exact same thing for other threads.
If their post history is the same, maybe it can be reported both, mentioning this in the report, to let the mod have a look too and decide if this means spam or not...
What happens if we report a user with copper membership? (Paid membership). I haven't reported any copper yet. Does that mean any kind of protection against vulnerability?

The global finance industry is massive. Global assets under management (AUM) is estimated to be at approximately $85 trillion. This massive industry is under attack from various angles. Yesterday I was at a brick and mortar bank. I like my client services manager (Let’s call him Mr. W).

Mr. W is a super cool guy and he is always smiling. But he couldn’t get me a simple transfer from one bank in US to another in India. It takes 5 business days!! Yes, FIVE business days. And this service is called an express or urgent service. And I have to go back to the bank again in 4 days!!

I asked him the alternative method. It happened to be the good old Wiring. The cost associated was “$50+”. Yes, FIFTY dollars to send $465 dollars.

I was stunned and obviously frustrated. I have been a customer for years and this took me by surprise. At a time when we have the power to transact at lightning speeds, this was definitely disappointing. You can send money to a cell phone or an email!!! But US banks won’t allow me to send to another bank. And my dear banker printed me 5 pages of KYC to send $465. God bless the banker.

Then I realized that technology will eat a lot of these businesses.

Speaking of technology and banking, Blockchain, will disrupt the financial domain most certainly. There’s already a lot that has been discussed, debated and spoken about this distributed ledger, both online and offline. So this ground-breaking technology doesn’t need a special introduction at this point. Calling it ‘disruptive’ is an understatement. To understand what blockchain is capable of, look at bitcoin or cryptocurrency. It has achieved a lot of ‘never heard of’ scenarios in the financial domain. Ever since the technology was introduced in the world of banking, experts have always struggled to create a safe and secure means of transaction. One has to go through a third-party application or an intermediary or a regulatory body to transfer money. But here is a digital currency – completely de-centralized - and has broken all those conventional laws of banking. Today, an individual can send money to anyone in the world almost immediately without having to go through the hassle of what I went through. It is already happening in various parts of the world. You can transfer money via WeChat, Whatsapp, and even Facebook Messenger now.

Believe it or not, blockchain is a ground-breaking technology that can be applied to the you-name-it domain.  From agriculture, aviation to supply chain, finance and food industry, blockchain is just about there, everywhere.

I would be happy to see this list as a drop-down list when you hit the report to mod button, it would be quicker to select the spam, scam, reflink, etc. from the dropdown list...
I know people are lazy enough while browsing, if something needs keyboard, they usually skip it unless it's absolutely necessary for them... so reporting with a few clicks (without typing job) could maybe help to have more people to report

EDIT
Just found something interesting:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4524527.0

A few thoughts to inspire debate and discussion on the end of conventional central banking (it is a surprisingly recent historical phenomenon anyway) and cryptocurrencies taking over sovereign currencies (because many countries had given up their sovereign currency already anyway) here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4524280

So if I want to report this, it's not nr. 33 copypaste, because the source is included....

...
33. When reporting plagiarized content first make sure that they haven't included an original source. If they haven't then provide the original source that the content was plagiarized from in the report field. There are several tools which can identify plagiarized content as well as manual searches via a search engine.

Maybe this fits the nr. 1 'pointless' type of post, but I have to describe why it's pointless. It's pointless, because it's a copypaste of some other member's post, but the source has mentioned, so it's not a copypaste, so I'm stuck.
The reason why I'm asking this that I don't want to ruin my 99% accuracy (have nearly 650 reports and only 10 bad, so if I can reach the 1000 reports with 10 bad, I hope the system will round the 99% up to 100% Cheesy )
549  Other / Meta / Re: Starting threads to try to generate meritable posts on: June 23, 2018, 08:52:26 PM
Well now I've got to make a decision. I've got a guy that I put on ignore who has submitted a post in the thread.
Maybe he deserves a second chance,  because of trying to post quality stuff... (or he reads Meta and hunting hard for Merit Smiley )
So if you click on unignore, you can ignore him again if that post is useless spam or merit begging.... but you won't find it out without unignoring him at least for a few seconds...
550  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Discussion is not Bitcoin Price Prediction Discussion on: June 23, 2018, 08:33:00 PM
The speculation threads are getting really annoying. Every day there's another handful of threads asking can bitcoin go to x this year?

I've suggested before that there should be warnings or the most commonly broken rules displayed at the top specific to the sub board they're about to post a new topic in. Ie in Bitcoin Discussion: Threads about the value of bitcoin don't belong here but in Speculation. Marketplace: Only bump your thread once every 24 hours etc. People tend not to pay attention to stickies and the more there is of them the less chance they have of reading them.

I like this idea too. People can't say that they haven't seen the big red warning just above the text input field...
Only the bots will be those who won't care about the warning Smiley
551  Other / Meta / Bitcoin Discussion is not Bitcoin Price Prediction Discussion on: June 22, 2018, 09:38:02 PM
I would propose another sticky topic in Bitcoin Discussion, like:
Bitcoin price prediction topics does not belong here, chech the Speculation thread for this
And a link to the Speculation thread.
I know that people are interested in the future of the Bitcoin price, but somehow we should reduce the topics opened daily, and asking for opinions...
Unfortunately, these topics are usually just new Spam megathreads in the end, without any usefult content, so they are just polluting the board...
552  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Distribution Slowing? on: June 22, 2018, 09:21:54 PM
...
Please don't blame the merit sources for the slowdown. The excessive pollution on the boards, and the difficulty in finding decent posts is discouraging for us.
That's true, Bitcoin Discussion is the second favourite place for spammers (first one is the Off topic), or maybe the third, because the really second one is the Alt discussion.
I've started again to report spam topics from the Bitcoin Discussion thread. Today's stats: there are 8 (!) pages of topics (40 topics per page) with at least one new post from today (approximately 320 topics just for today). I've quickly ran thru the subjects and opened the suspicious ones, in the end, I've managed to report 50 topics, that were obviously spam or scam, etc... It's 15% just for today, and it's just the topic count, not the post count. Spammy topics and spam megathreads gathers the spammy posts much quicker than the normal topics with meaningful discussion (because it's not easy to post something useful...), so the ratio of the spammy posts compared to the normal ones must be much worse...
We need more people to report, unless something solves the spam problem...
553  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which gateways can Merchants use to accept cryptocurrency payments online? on: June 22, 2018, 07:25:33 PM
You can use Bitpay,I remember that it is the biggest cryptocurrency payment gateway.
What kind of products are you selling?Physical or digital?I don`t think that anyone would buy physical products using cryptocurrencies.Do you do dropshipping or you are selling your own products?
What is the difference? Why anyone would buy anything digital and won't buy anything physical with cryptocurrencies?
If someone don't trust the webshop, he won't pay with cryptocurrencies, because the payment is irreversible. It doesn't matter if the item is physical or digital, you will get the download link for a digital item just after the payment is confirmed on the blockchain, so there's no difference.
Or, do I miss something in connection with the difference?
554  Other / Meta / Re: The core of Bitcointalk's spam problem on: June 22, 2018, 03:57:23 PM
...
How about implementing a "social influence" sub-category of publicly visible profile stats, that simply tracks things like how often someone cites you, how many views your post get, how many clicks links in your signature receive. Based on these numbers Bounty managers could actually pick people for their campaigns which are doing a lot right. Right now all they see is how many posts they make and how many merits they gathered in the last 120 days, which is an ok start but never really tells the whole story.
Scammers, spammers would farm thousands of accounts to click on their main account's signature, in order to rank up their account to be able to join the campaigns...
Normal people don't think like this but you have to think it over from the evil's point of view, because if something is abusable, spammers and scammers would abuse it, that's for sure...
555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: new delhi, india : Bitcoin gold sold as bitcoin to uneducated investors ! on: June 22, 2018, 03:50:24 PM
This is pathetic and unhuman. How long would humans continue to pray on those with less information? It hurts anyways. Blockchain technology still have a long way to go in educating people about the Cryptoworld.

Money goes where the more information is. Trading, investing is a zero sum game in the end, so if someone decides to start trading, investing he/she has to accept that the way is not always up but in most cases, down...
Poor guys who were scammed with bitcoin gold, they didn't have enough information about bitcoin, so it was easy to scam them... Scammers should be stopped and punished of course, but somehow people should start to make their decisions in connection with their own money more responsibly...
E.g. if I want to buy real gold (because I think the price of the real gold will skyrocket in the next month), I do my own research how sellers could scam me and I'll prepare for the transaction. (If I can buy real gold in authorized and regulated shop, it's more easy, but in case of bitcoin, there's nothing like an authorized and regulated shop, only exchanges, shady exchanges and sellers from the back streets... more risky investment...)
People should start to blame others, the ecosystem and bitcoin only after they have made their decision with the expectable care and diligence...
556  Other / Meta / Re: The core of Bitcointalk's spam problem on: June 22, 2018, 03:25:29 PM
Who decides of the rules for a campaign ?
I see most managers always have the same criterias for the campaigns they run so I think they're the ones who decide, companies just hire them because of their reputation and then they let them do things their own way.

This is one thing I've been always wondering about...

If a bounty campaign manager is seen paying for shitposts, in some cases even by tagged shitposters, shouldn't that campaign manager also get a tag? After all, he is not properly doing his job, he is paying people for spam, he is incentivizing people to pay crap and so on...

Was there a case of a bounty manager getting a red trust for this?

We have lists like SMAS but shouldn't we have lists like that for those so-called managers?
In the end, those (so called) companies (scammers, spammers, etc...) are hiring the bounty managers, but I don't really think that a red trust on a bounty manager would stop these "companies" hiring a red tagged bounty manager, if he offers a really cheap price for the service and can deliver a similar visibility as the 'normal' but more expensive managers...
As long as they are allowed to continue their service, they won't stop, why would they...
If you want to regulate the bounty managers (e.g. whitelist, etc...), you can be tagged as a 'centralist' in this decentralized forum, so it's not easy to find a working solution for the situation.
557  Other / Meta / Re: The core of Bitcointalk's spam problem on: June 21, 2018, 08:56:17 PM
I think we all agree that the spam amount at Bitcointalk still is too high. The merit system perhaps has improved the situation a little bit, but even that is debatable.

The merit system doesn't really stop spam, it just stops users being able to rank up with spam/poor contributions so most now put more effort into their posts. The merit system helps and is a huge step in the right direction but it does nothing about lower ranked accounts spamming away who are still able to get on to alt coin campaigns (and half of them will accept anyone of any rank because it's still better than having nobody advertise for them).
...
The first level of the new merit system has been reached, the initial merits were given out and most of the spammers and account farmers has managed to trade some merits, but from now on, it will be extra hard for them to get merit (if I understand the situation well).
A solution could be to have a look at the average spammer account rank now, e.g.:
- Are most of the spammers newbies (or brand new)
- Or, most of the spammers are juniors, because they managed to rank up, but they stucked at this rank
- Or, more spammers are above junior level, because they have managed to rank up to e.g. member level, because of the farming/abusing, etc.

If we can strike a line between two ranks (e.g. juniors are (mostly) spammers, but members are (mostly) not, we can tell that there will be no signature for juniors, but only for members and up.
If the juniors won't have a chance to rank up to member without posting quality (and earning merit with it), it can solve the spam problem.
558  Other / Meta / Re: Solve Captcha before posting in a topic? on: June 19, 2018, 04:46:37 AM
...
So my solution would probably increase the delay time post for Jr. and members. for now Jr member only take under 1 minute. or perhaps make it 15 minutes it will definitely reduce the useless post.
...
Unfortunately you won't solve this situation with this. Spammers would just register some more accounts, so they don't need to wait for the 1 or 15 minutes period if they want to spam/bump/etc....
559  Other / Meta / Re: This is why merit sources shouldn't be known publicly. on: June 17, 2018, 11:58:51 AM
I won't publish his name, as there seems to be a lot of grief and stress in the forum at the moment. I hope he will see this thread, and modify his behaviour in the future. Merit is something you earn, and not a commodity.
...
I think he won't read this thread... if he/she don't know how to post to earn some merits, it means he/she haven't been to Meta yet...
What was the member's post quality like? Spammer or just lazy type?

I see that some members are active and productive members of the community, but they don't receive any merit.

This is like the Catch-22:
If you make good enough posts, but noone notices them, you won't get merit.
If you ask for merit (because you have good posts), you won't get merit, because you're begging.
Not an easy situation Smiley

Yes, I used the lower Activity limit as you’ve seen.
...
Thanks. So it's not possible to check if the personal legendary activity limit for a Hero has already been reached, if the Hero don't have 1000 Merits. (If the Hero's current activity is somewhere between 775 and 1030.)
