-snip-

It's clear he doesn't want to make any of these changes because he likes the traffic that bounty spamming brings. The irony is that as all the real members get bored and leave, all that will be left is spammers spamming other spammers. There's no profit in that, so the campaigns will stop paying for it and then the traffic will really fall.
I don't agree that there's no profit in that case... Campaigns won't stop, because the forum would still be the first among others, because of the high traffic. I think there will always be some (or a lot) newcomers who would fall for the advertised ICOs and would invest in some shady ones, because they expect quick bucks without hard work and without their own research... You can't protect these people from themselves... there will always be people like this, you can't help it.
But I agree that when that time will come, there will only be scammers and spammers here, but I hope it won't ever happen...
422  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org YouTube channel? on: September 14, 2018, 08:22:29 PM
I think it would be great. People often search in youtube for learning some stuff about bitcoin. Most of the time, they end up with less valueable information while with authorized channel from bitcointalk can really ensure some quality videos which really may help people willing to learn about bitcoin.
...
People search youtube to find something about joining bounty campaigns (and spamming the hell out of the forum, just to increase activity...)
There are already several youtubers who do this as a daily job, they make good money with it. They won't be happy to have an official youtube channel for the forum... I hope they won't downvote the official videos, just to make it harder for the competitor channel to start...
Of course, it would be an advantage for the new youtube channel that it's the official channel, so it would be more trustable, reliable, etc... But because it's an official channel, you should be really cautious with the content... Existing youtubers' videos are sometimes seems like a bit clickbait for me (although it works for them), but an official channel can't do that, so it have to be a bit less interesting and more technical/official/etc...
But why not to give it a try? We'll see...
423  Other / Meta / Re: What would happen if I changed my name? on: September 12, 2018, 07:44:35 PM
Can you check if they (Walmart) have already registered their 'JetCash' system as a trademark? I don't really know what they can do if you own that name for so long, but logically that domain was yours before they have found out that name for their service (or they have just met with your system in the past and they liked it (and after took it...)).
Maybe you can consult with a lawyer specialized in this, but I'm sure you have some experience too in connection with these kind of things if you sell domain names for so long...

Edit:
And don't worry, if people read the forum enough, they get used to the people's writing style, so you'll be recognized after a nick change as well (and I'm sure that Walmart won't use your avatar picture, so you can use it afterwards, that's even more recognizable)...
424  Other / Meta / Re: Is this can be reported as Plagiarism on: September 12, 2018, 07:26:13 PM
That newbie will learn (if he/she wants to) how to quote from sources outside this forum as soon as this post gets deleted. And if he/she cares about that post (or the post quantity...)
I've also checked the previous posts in the post history, they are mostly in ANN or Altcoin discussion topics... maybe this was just a quick test to get a quick merit...
425  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: September 10, 2018, 09:11:06 PM
There are far more important things on the todo list... This would be somewhere at the end of that list, if you ask me...
I don't mind if there is a badge for the reporters or not, we need to concentrate on the spambots... Somehow we have to prevent the spam instead of reporting it and giving the mode a huge pile of work...
Prevention is always better than cure...

Give a merit for accurate reports, this motivates us to use the report button more often.
spam bots are easy to find, but not everyone uses the report button
This has been discussed already in april...
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3275350.0
To cut the long story short, spammers would create another copypaster account. This is to gain merit with their main account, who will report them...
The idea is fine, but very abusable, so it's not a solution...
426  Other / Meta / Re: Why the rank does not grow on: September 10, 2018, 08:25:50 PM
Take a look at the Merit & new rank requirements   topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0. Your activity is OK for the member rank, but you still have to gather 10 merits to be able to rank up.
The above mentioned hints will help you to gather merit if you really want to take this forum seriously.
427  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: September 10, 2018, 08:13:35 PM
I think theymos just trolled us all to make us start reporting. I don't think he will implement report ranks any time soon..

428  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for new moderators who deserve it. @theymos please take a look. on: September 09, 2018, 08:09:14 PM
If I were a mod and had some actual authority and autonomy, my moderated section would probably look like ground zero after a nuclear strike,

On the basis of this - I think I'll vote for you. Smiley

+1 for the nuke Cheesy

I don't know why we need to preserve all the shitposts everywhere on the forum...
Maybe if we just nuke 50% of the forum at once, people will start to think about the situation, and only spammers would leave the place quickly... If we do nothing, spammers will stay but valuable members will leave slowly...
429  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 07, 2018, 08:12:26 PM
...
As for regaining "Bitcoin Discussion", If Theymos does ad a new Mod, there should a fresh start. All current topics could be locked, and then we begin fresh. Anyone who thinks their thread has legitimate value or conversation taking place,  could request it be reopened. Then at least moving forward you are not starting with a daunting cesspool to clean up, you have a clean slate to maintain.
...
I would suggest to continue to report posts after the above mentioned 'big lock' in the locked topics too, because this is the only way how we can make spammers lose activity and post count, which means they lose money and hopefully they will stop (except if they are a bots...)
430  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 07, 2018, 07:56:12 PM
My time is valuable - especially my free time, which is when I am a able to browse Bitcointalk. I refuse to waste hours of that time searching through pages and pages of spam for the one or two comments that include an original or well-articulated though. As I mentioned before, finding threads early can sometimes lead to a good discussion over a couple of posts, but as soon as the spammers take over, I usually give up and remove the topic from my watchlist.
Unfortunately, its not going to get better without people reporting it. It doesn't mean that we are relying on you to report alone. More people in general need to be reporting. I'm a patroller, and I don't seem to get that many reports in the Bitcoin Discussion section. Maybe, there's not that many newbie spammers there, but I would think they are a big portion of it.
Unfortunately, reporting is not developed enough yet to be efficient.
It lacks one little but really important feature:
To check if a post has already been reported and it's waiting for the mods to decide.
If the forum could get this feature, we ( Smiley ) could check much more posts, because there would be no parallel work for the reporters.
There's no need to report a post 2-3-5-10 times by different members, because a decent mod can act based on the post itself, even if the reportes is not describing the problem properly...
431  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, we want those sections back to us, new moderators? on: September 07, 2018, 02:58:47 PM
I see theymos was here but didn't answer the request.
Hope we get a feedback soon.
...
How you can see that theymos was here?
Is there any setting in the forum to check back later who has viewed the topic/post?
I thought it's not possible, but I don't know all the features of this forum....
432  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 07, 2018, 02:46:12 PM
How many of you have actually tried posting meaning content in these sections even after shitposting became widespread and/or the thread becomes a SMT? Or would you not participate there to talk to others even if a genuine discussion starts?

My time is valuable - especially my free time, which is when I am a able to browse Bitcointalk. I refuse to waste hours of that time searching through pages and pages of spam for the one or two comments that include an original or well-articulated though. As I mentioned before, finding threads early can sometimes lead to a good discussion over a couple of posts, but as soon as the spammers take over, I usually give up and remove the topic from my watchlist.

This is the same for me... New topics contains valuable information on the first page but after there's no use to read all the oneliner comments, there's nothing they add, they just fill the empty space on the page...
My watchlist is also shrinking day by day...
433  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming in all local board on: September 07, 2018, 02:38:44 PM
...
Though I have reported him yesterday for plagiarizing, but I'm still not sure if he is banned or not yet. There should actually be something to show if a person is banned or not if you open their profile. theymos should definitely implement this thing.
He's profile link:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2364481
This is the userID: 2364481
You can check the modlog here:
https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php
If you search it for the userID on the page, you'll know if he is banned or not:
Code:
Nuke user: N/A in topic #0 by member #2364481
Remove topic: Luxury Car Dalersehip Accepts Bitcoin, Basketballers to Earn Crypto in topic #5019700 by member #2364481
Remove topic: 10 Songs That Show Bitcoin’s Influence on Pop Culture in topic #5000166 by member #2364481

...
Though he had deleted all his posts, but the Merit he received would remain as one will still have the Merits given to him even if the post/thread he got them from gets deleted.
As he has been nuked, that merit doesn't count anymore.
434  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming in all local board on: September 06, 2018, 10:19:53 PM
This mistake can be done by a real newbie, or maybe someone is just testing a new kind of spambot...
Anyway, it's over now, I hope they have learnt the lesson...
I just can't imagine that people don't think that they will get caught when they do such obvious things...
435  Other / Meta / Mod, please check text spinning: Reporting text spinning, please ban on: September 06, 2018, 07:03:37 PM
I was thinking about reporting this spinning in the copy/paste topic, but I don't want to mess up that topic, it's fine for copypasting reports, but text spinning is not that straightforward, so this is why I've opened this topic.

Modlog, to check if the spinner has been banned:

Original:
~ the current enhancements ~
are you hinting at Schnorr?

in any case the only way price goes up is with more adoption and it only stays up with more merchant adoption. all these "enhancements" are great but it takes time for them to start being used. for instance i do believe that LN will not be used that much until it is meaning some day one of the big ones like an exchange would start implementing it and then the LN usage will go through the roof in less than a month as others follow.
so we need that kind of trigger to happen and that can be the ignition for the big rise to come. although this is not the only reason that can lead to a rise. even without these "enhancements" bitcoin is still the only decentralized currency in the world with scarce supply.

Spinned:
For example, I do trust that LN won't be utilized that much until the point when it is meaning sometime one of the enormous ones like a trade would begin actualizing it and after that the LN utilization will experience the rooftop in under multi month as others take after.

It seems it was spinbot.com:

EDIT:
please let me know if I need to move this to the copypaste topic, if there's no need for separate spinner topic
436  Other / Meta / Re: Alternative statistics of user registrations on Bitcointalk 2017-2018 on: September 06, 2018, 06:14:21 PM
I don't know the background, but I think farmers are not registering the new accounts only on demand. I think they are creating accounts here continously, and they sell/rent them when a customer drops in.
So to cut the long story short, I think they are using the FIFO method when they sell/rent their farmed accounts. This means when a customer gets some accounts from farmers, those accounts are quite old already (but without any posts). So if this is true, your statistics can be true that there are only a few accounts banned in a few months time after the registration.
If you are after the spammer accounts, I would do it just the opposite way (but I don't have the knowledge to the technical and programming part to e.g. write a query, etc...) If you could check how old the accounts who were banned at a specific time, it could show something different, I guess.
437  Other / Meta / Re: Should I reply to topics with more or less replies? For the merit? on: September 05, 2018, 08:43:13 PM
Its true that there's certain ways of getting more merit by strategically posting. However, I would advise against it. Just participate in discussions which you are genuinely interested in, and have something to say about, and you should receive merit. Maybe, not all the time, and maybe not a lot. But, you shouldn't be posting in order to earn merit. Instead, it should be rewarded for posts that you would of posted anyway.

I guess that's easy to say with your merits  Wink

I'll give your advice a shot. Thanks

If you reply to a few posts, please try to combine all the replies into one post (let's learn how to use the quote function properly). Posting several replies in a row makes reading more difficult and it's also against the rules (check those as well). Take your time to learn and you'll be fine.
438  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 04, 2018, 07:30:09 PM
...
That's what I suggested. Self-moderated threads can have a very big effect on the quality of that board. People starting useful discussions making the threads self-moderated to clean the incoming spam can give us some hope.
...
Self moderated topic won't be a solution in Bitcoin Discussion, as long as our beloved spammers will continue to work spam as busy as a bee...
If you start a self-moderated topic with a decent subject to discuss
- you will have less posts than a normal topic, because spammers won't work spam in vain, so
- your topic will not receive enough 'bumps' daily to be able to stay on the first page, so
- nobody will find it after a few hours <end of the story>

I've used to report in Bitcoin Discussion (managed to have over 500 good reports in just a few days), but it's like you want to fight the roaring fire in the woods with a water pistol...
You can put countless people's energy, time and effort to fight agains the spam in that (and every other) board, but what about cutting spam at the roots? It would require much less time, energy, and effort to just restrict them somehow.
If that could happen, those hard working members who just report spam day in and day out, would have time again to create constructive posts, instead of just pushing the report button...

439  Other / Meta / Re: Help for heroes on: September 04, 2018, 06:59:21 PM
I'm really interested in this Smiley
Heros have to collect 500 merits to become legendaries, and it's not easy. You can check the ranked up topic, there are only a few of the heros (who started with 500 merits, and has not received 1000 initial merits as a hero) were able to rank up, one of them is JC
So just think about any challenge and I'm not afraid to face it Smiley
(No ice bucket challenge please Tongue )
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will privacy and merchant adoption fuel the next price rise? on: September 03, 2018, 10:21:05 PM
My 2 cents:
None of the above mentioned factors would cause a raise in the price of bitcoin if the regulation will ban it simply (or won't ban, but just will over regulate it).
I know that bitcoin has not been banned yet (and won't be banned in the EU, in the USA, just in some special countries), but banks are really against bitcoin everywhere (but not against the blockchain technology). As long as banks are closing accounts involved in wire transfers from/to bitcoin exchanges, you can't be sure that your money will arrive when you want to cash out your bitcoins... Bitcoin debit cards has been deactivated by VISA, so that's another closed door. Localbitcoins needs KYC, so it's not easy to cash out for those people who prefer bitcoin because it's unregulated, they simply won't be able to cash out as easily as before (before 2017, when these restrictions were put in place, parallel with the parabolic raise of the bitcoin price).
I know that these restrictions are good for the people who are unfamiliar with bitcoin but want to take a huge profit with a little investment, so they won't be able to invest in bitcoin and lose their investment too easy, but it's not so good for merchants who just don't want to risk their income... I know that merchants can use some service providers to exchange bitcoin payments on the fly, when the customer has paid the price of the item/service with bitcoin, but this won't help bitcoin to circulate in the economy...
This problem (the cash-out) can be solved by applying the KYC and AML regulations on all the exit points of the blockchain, where you can exhange your bitcoins to fiat, in this case the regulators will be happy to let you pay in bitcoin at every merchant (e.g. Japan). If an exchange wants to apply the KYC and AML things, they have to become regulated by e.g. the country's central bank. If they are regulated, and applied the KYC and the AML policies, they have to be able to restrict/stop those bitcoin transactoins which don't meet the requirements of these policies... In this case bitcoin's original idea will fail and will become 'just' another kind of digital fiat, so I don't really know what will be the optimal solution for bitcoin now...
