501  Other / Meta / Re: User stats are still disabled? on: July 21, 2018, 07:41:16 PM
What kind of stats can we expect to see there?

Did this button ever worked?
I was curious about it but recently I am satisfied with the stats available, such as number of posts, time logged in, etc..
It was working fine last year as I remember...
I didn't know that it was shut down because of DDoS, but now I can understand it.
Anyway, I was OK without it this year, so if it won't be switched back, I don't really care.
When I checked my stats for the first time, I realized that it shows that I usually post in the same time of the day mostly... which is true, so it was working fine while it was working.
502  Other / Meta / Re: Alternative statistics of user registrations on Bitcointalk 2017-2018 on: July 21, 2018, 01:32:32 PM
Are there some statistics about the number of users that have been banned/nuked?
And in the case of banned members, about their ranks?

I think it would be interesting to see how many of the freshly registered users are shown the exit door daily.

I have a feeling that each time the mods are following the lists of LoyceV and others, after a few hours the number of fresh registrations spikes again  Grin

Are the nuked users marked also as Newbies, without any post? If mods nuke a newbie, who already posted something, all of the posts are deleted too. This means for me that the newbies with 0 posts could be partially nuked users also. (And I'm not surprised if the number of these kind of users are growing...)
503  Other / Meta / Re: How do I skip the junk posts? (also proposal) on: July 21, 2018, 12:56:42 PM

I remember you talking about a common ignore list few weeks ago.

Maybe this could be interesting.
....

And it was proposed in May, too.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3628036.0
Somehow, all the proposals seems to got ignored sooner or later, as there's only a few direct feedback about some ideas from the staff.
504  Other / Meta / Re: Watchlist bug? Missing topics in my watchlist on: July 20, 2018, 09:59:47 PM
Sometimes I also have problem with watchlist, but I haven't identified the problem yet (I was too lazy for that yet Smiley )
So it seems to me that if I click on the watchlist link, and it shows the topics that have new posts, and I don't do anything with it for a half of a day or a longer time maybe, next time when I click on the watchlist link, those topics wouldn't be listed again, but some others which they had new posts since.
It's not 100% sure, but for me it seems like it works like this.
505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: England Central Bank cryptocurrency on: July 20, 2018, 09:48:24 PM
Why would anyone want a government run cryptocurrency?  We wouldn't need crypto if they had not mucked up our fiat system by printing sh*t tons of it.  I would love to see .gov try to have an actual coin limit.  Instead of raising the debt ceiling they could raise the token amount.  I think I will take Bitcoin instead.
Because there are people who wath soap operas in the TV, they don't really care about the tomorrow at all, they live in a way how they see it in the advertisements, the media has a great influence on their decisions...
If they don't care about the things you mentioned, because they think those things are far too complicated for them or they think that they can't influence those things... so why they would not support a centralized fiat crytpo, if the government creates a good marketing for it in the media (which is somehow influenced by the goverment... maybe...)
For these kind of people, the "digital money" or "fiat 2.0" would be a step forward to a better, digitalized life... and you cannot blame them for their decisions...

I'm trying to code a bot which automates my daily reporting tasks. The only problem is, there are no set of steps that I could establish which will be performed repeatedly by the bot.
If you can pull this off, can I feed your bot reports too?
...
What about this:
Joel_Jantsen: try to write a bot that imports .csv file with 3 columns: UserID;PostID;Reason
LoyceV: If you can feed Joel_Jantsen's bot with the above mentioned .csv file, that would make the report based on your data
Just make sure that it's not available for the public, because spammers would start to use it to generate false reports....
508  Other / Meta / Re: How about starting Loyce's lobby, or a similar clubroom. on: July 17, 2018, 09:15:07 PM
The big difference would be the ability to ban bad posters from the board. I believe that would do a lot to reduce spam there. Especially if bounty managers made it a requirement to make at least one post per month on the board.
If you can force bounty managers somehow to make a rule (about posting in the new clubthread regurarly), you could also force them to check the quality of the posts for their sig.spammers...
I think bounty managers don't care anything but quantity, so this solution could work for "normal" signature campaigns and their managers, but for bounties...
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Exchange In Japan Is Offering Bitcoin Loan on: July 17, 2018, 05:47:07 PM
Japanese Cryptocurrency exchange Bitbank has made an announcement to commence BTC-USD, a Bitcoin borrowing program. The idea has been developed to engage more new customers along with enhancing additional foreign exchange.
https://www.owltmarket.com/cryptocurrency-exchange-in-japan-is-offering-bitcoin-loan/
loans in bitcoin form? Japan is a very amazing country, we can borrow bitcoin and trade it. after a profit we can pay the bitcoin we borrow, a very good financial breakthrough
Or, if you trade with loss, (if you use margin, for example...) and you have a margin call and your whole deposit is gone, you can pay back all the bitcoins you have borrowed from your fiat income (and if the exchange rate goes up, you will pay back much more than you borrowed...
510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Building an ATM: what are the steps? on: July 17, 2018, 05:44:35 PM

But I do not find any wrong if ATMS for bitcoin are installed.  There may be many shopkeepers who may not be accepting bitcoin or may not be having much knowledge about it.  ATMs will deliever fiat currency.  So for payment to them fiat currency will be required and ATMS I think are must for this purpose.
Maybe it's easier to start to have a look at currency exchange shops how do they operate, how they handle cach, because they do a really similar activity when they exchange fiat for foreign fiat...
But usually bitcoin is not legally accepted as a currency in most countries, except for some lucky ones...
511  Other / Meta / Re: New spam bot? [how do they do it?] on: July 16, 2018, 07:47:05 PM
I'm wondering if it's possible to check automatically if a post was posted already? In this case spammers couldn't post the same post in every topic, at least they would need to modify it a bit... so it's still not the perfect solution...
It's programmable, need string however for a forum I don't think it's appropriate.
Yeah, it was only an idea...
Or if we could implement some kind of mass reporting to mods...
Just imagine, you could report all "good project" "good project sir" etc... posts with only a few clicks...
Spammers would scream and shout Smiley

513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: banks investment and the crypto world on: July 15, 2018, 06:22:28 PM
I think crypto investment is the best compare to bank investments because in crypto investments all the your fund are been managed and control my you compare to bank account where by our investments is centralization and controlled by the management, this really makes it difficult when you want to get your fund back because it involves third party in crypto there is no third party.
Just don't forget that people don't used to manage their money (in the western part of the world) and it's totally acceptable for them to trust a third party to manage their finances. For those who has no banks yet in their country, cryto will not be such a huge change, but for the EU and USA, there should be something, that make people accept this change. To change people especially in connection with money, it's not an easy job, so crytpos need to offer such advantages to let people accept this change easily.
514  Other / Meta / Re: "PrіmeCоreICО Dashboard" Spam flooded the forum. Bots... again. on: July 14, 2018, 08:52:29 PM
I try to report every day. When I have some free time on my mobile I always go trough the Patrol page.
I need only one tool.
Report button in the search results, it's gonna be much easier. I have suggested this many times before.
Same as the report history it can be unlock only after reaching certain amount of good reports.
Maybe some other "tools" can be accessible too, like multiple reports with one click. /a tick select option for every post/.
I'm willing to dedicate some of my time to fight with the spammers as I'm doing it already. I'm not looking for rewards.
Maybe another useful tool would be a report button next to the topics' title in the thread's main page... When you report in Bitcoin Discussion, most of the time you can decide just based on the topics's title that it needs to move to e.g. speculation or to trash directly.... Or, to select multiple topics and report it to move them to speculation, beginners, or trash...
It could save some time for the reporting members...
And it would be useful only for a short time (preferably) because if these threads become clean, you won't need this feature anymore again...
515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Building an ATM: what are the steps? on: July 14, 2018, 08:17:03 PM
I don't know in which country you will install that ATM, but at first I would check the legal background of it.
Do you need to obtain special licences for installing and operating the ATM but as it would work with real fiat notes it's really possible that you have to, but you should check it.
If the legal background is clear after you can start thinking about building the ATM. Or you can check if there's a second hand ATM available for you somewhere to start with... maybe it's easier to have a working one and see how it works than to start it from scratch...

Great Suggestions!

I am in Italy, I am sure that there are already few installations in the main cities (Milan, Rome etc...)... but I am not sure what are the "rules" from government point of view.... I would need to check! would you have any suggestion where to start?

Cheers

FiNaR
You should start with your country's central bank's regulations in connection with financial services, who can run an ATM, what is the requirement, do you need a banking licence or something similar...
But it's easier to consult with someone who has the knowledge (tax advisors, book-keepers, lawyers, etc...)
Or you can check who runs the mentioned ATMs in Milan, Rome, etc... you can have a look at their companies' data and numbers, so you can have an idea, how much capital they've  put into their companies to run those ATMs...

This is kinda unfair.I wish the companies, who offer bitcoin loans to include something like a discount agreement attached to the loan contract. For example,if I borrow a 1 BTC loan and the bitcoin price increases by 50% I will payback 0.5 BTC+the loan interest rate. This will boost bitcoin adoption for sure.
Let's say you have some bitcoins (e.g. 2 bitcoins which equals about $12,000 nowdays) and you want to give out loans.
First, you give out 1 bitcoin for someone. You sign an agreement that he will pay back only 0.5 bitcoin if the price goes up 50%.
Let's say the price moved up 50%. If you hadn't given out the loan, you would have got 2 bitcoins (worths e.g. $18,000)
Becasue you signed that the borrower needs only to pay back 0.5 bitcoin, in the end you'll end up with 1.5 bitcoin (worths $13,500 plus a little interest).
It doesn't seem a great deal for me to give out a loan with these kind of conditions...

But on the long run (when the merit system will be fine tuned) we can set up the ignore system like this:
- No ignore (can see everyone)
- Small ignore (ignoring users with default merit, who haven't gathered additional merits)
- Medium ignore (ignoring those who gathered less than 10% additional merits for their rank)
- Strong ignore (ignoring those who gathered less than 30% additional merits for their rank)

In this case, ignore lists are not needed, it can be automated (and still not mandatory to use, to let people choose if they really want to read shitposts...)
This needs the merit system to work as expected, so it needs time, but it can be a kind of automated solution.

EDIT:
I've changed my mind.
Why not to implement the second solution immediately, to test it? If it's not mandatory, people can not complain about it.
For newbies, who had no chance to gain merits, there will be the merit sources (with no ignore list activated of course) so they will have the chance to gather some merits to escape the ignore lists.
How does this help with the Spam problem? Its just personal preference. And there are legit users who haven't earned little or any merits, who have more than average level of posts. I don't think this would be that great of an idea.
This is why I wrote that it should not be mandatory to use this ignore function, and it will be useful when the merit system will work 100% as it was designed and every legit user gets the merit he deserves, in that case this would be an easy solution to let people avoid shitposts.
As soon as people start to use this ignore function, bounty managers would realize that the shitposters' posts won't show up at all in the forum, so they won't pay for them. This would stop a part of the spam, not all of them.
I know it's not the near future, it was just an idea

based on this, their name (BitBank) and reading about them it seems like they are really trying to become a real bank but a bitcoin bank, maybe the first of its kind. it would be interesting to see how that turns out to be like though in a couple of years for instance. the first established bitcoin bank offering all kinds of services that a bank offers: loans, accounts with profit when you make a deposit, safety deposit boxes for storing your valuable physical stuff like paper wallets so it can even take smaller place, debit cards,...

all of it is still against bitcoin and its decentralization but it would be interesting to see how it turns out.
Maybe it will be easier for them to operate a bank than we think now.
When average joes will get in touch with bitcoin for the first time, they won't be comfortable with handling their own finances (have to store bitcoin safely, have to secure their IT stuff to increase the safety of their bitcoin, etc...), and if there will be a solution (a bitcoin bank) which does the same with bitcoin than other regular banks do with their fiat money, they won't think much and will use the bank.
People are not accustomed to handle their own money nowdays, it needs education and practice...
519  Other / Meta / Re: Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 12, 2018, 02:24:21 PM
I would go for the raising of the merit requirement for the juniors AND to let them nuked if needed.
This would solve the merit and the spam problem, parallel. Spammers would need more merits to become juniors (they have to trade/buy/etc. more merits, which costs them money) and those merits would lose if they are nuked when they are juniors. So in the end, farming a spambot army from juniors would cost way much more money than now.
